Standing as a mark of respect for the Indian Army, the Kanchenjunga Museum in Gulmarg is also known as Gul-A-Seum or Gulmarg Army Museum. It shows the lives of Indian soldiers and the hardships they face. The museum houses a valuable and lesser-known collection of warfare equipment and mountaineering gear that the Indian army uses in the glacial areas.
The initial intent was to develop it as a high-altitude warfare school, but it eventually was turned into a museum. Kanchenjunga Museum was set up to honor the first summit of the Armed Forces of India to Kanchenjunga in 1997. It is a testament to the Indian Army's soldiers where you get to see a first-hand view of their feats and involvement in nation-building activities. The museum also showcases the Indian Army’s role in historic battles with Pakistan and China and how they protect borders. It features historic milestones of Jammu and Kashmir, interactive displays, and the sacrifice and valour stories of soldiers. This place is a well-known destination in the Baramulla district and remains closed during festivals and national holidays.
• Visit the Kanchenjunga Museum to see gear and equipment like the grappling tools, rope, and mountain engineering equipment.
• Take a look at this High-Altitude Warfare School that pays tribute to the Indian Army’s accomplishments like their first Everest summit in 2001
• Immerse yourself in memorabilia displaying the untold stories of courage and sacrifice of our Indian soldiers
• Soak in the breathtaking views of Aprawat Peak, Jhelum River, Haramukh, and the glowing Sunset Peak
By Road: Kanchenjunga Museum is located at a distance of only 3 km from the city centre of Gulmarg. You can easily reach the museum in approximately 10 minutes via Gulmarg Road.
