The Kanchenjunga Museum in Gulmarg houses a valuable collection of modern warfare equipment and mountaineering gear used by the Indian army in their ascent of the mountains. The place was developed with the intention of using it as a high altitude warfare school, but later on the museum was set up to commemorate the Armed forces’ first summit to the Kanchenjunga in 1997. After that, other noteworthy events and expeditions like the first successful Everest expedition back in 2001, have received due regards in this museum.

The museum stands as a mark of immense respect for the Indian Army and relays the lives of our soldiers and the hardships they encounter to stand guard to the nation’s security in the bone chilling mountainous conditions. Some of the equipment that have been preserved here include mountain gear like ropes, grappling tools, etc.

Every display also has a great deal of information mentioned on plaques beneath them, which tell you a lot about their usage and function.
