Durgapur

Experiential journeys will make you a storyteller
About Durgapur
Located on the banks of the Damodar River, this coalfield surrounded place is situated in the Paschim Bardhaman district. Durgapur is amongst the largest industrial centres, often referred to as the ‘Steel City of Bengal’ and the second planned city in the country and amongst the most offbeat places to visit in West Bengal.

The beauty of Durgapur lies in the charming juxtaposition of the old and the new here in its architecture, atmosphere, food, and culture. Lush forests of eucalyptus & sal, ancient temples, rivers, and beautiful gardens make the landscape of Durgapur extremely scenic, making it one of the best places to see in West Bengal.

One of the major attractions here is the Durgapur Barrage built over the Damodar River perfect for watching a beautiful sunset, boating, or simply spending time at shores. No trip here is complete without seeing the massive Durgapur Steel Plant and Bhabani Pathak’s Tilla that is a protected monument housing a maze of caves. Visit the Garh Jungle to see native flora and fauna and the riverside Deul Park to spend time at the luxuriant creek and the surrounding forests.

One of the best activities to do here is to experience the vibrant buzz of Benachity as you pick up local handicrafts and try Bengali cuisine like chicken kasha, Aloo Posto, Macher Jhol, and varieties of sandesh. Enjoy boating in the serene and lush Kumaramangalam Park and try cable car rides and water sports at Troika Park. Spend serene time in the pious atmosphere of the Ram Mandir here that is famous for its green surroundings and carved architecture.

Durgapur is hot and humid in the summers with temperatures reaching up to 40°C. Monsoons, though pleasant, bring a heavy barrage of rains and flooding risks. Winter months are cool & dry, with temperatures hovering around 15°C, making it quite pleasant to be outdoors and enjoying the local attractions.
