Hirakud Dam Overview
The Hirakud dam has been constructed on the Mahanadi River, Sambalpur and holds the record for the longest man made dam in India. Built in the year 1956, the architectural beauty of this dam attracts not only the locals but tourists as well. Most of them come here to relish the quaint atmosphere, witness the ecstatic view of hundreds of birds flocking around the dam and the lush greenery that surrounds this 56 km long dam, making it one of the most popular Tourist places in Bhubaneshwar.

The dam can also be viewed in its gallant beauty from the Budharaja temple, located in its close proximity. When visiting the dam, also take a round to the Ghanteswari temple, which is popular for its historic lighthouse.
