From the outside, it is an imposing structure and looks more like a fortification with massive solid walls and two huge clock towers. Once inside, you can see the Gothic arches that extend right up to the vaulted ceiling with decorative altars and statues from the medieval period adorning the alcoves.

As you go towards the rear, you can see the ancient cloisters that are constructed right atop a ruined mosque. You can learn much about the history of the place from here as it retells the Catholic seizure of Portugal from the North African Moors in the 13th century.The cathedral essentially comprises two main sections, one comprises the religious nave, sanctuary, and transept while the other are the disused cloisters towards the rear.
