David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust

One of the most popular wildlife conservation charities that have been founded in Kenya, the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust has been in existence since the year 1977. The trust was formed by Daphne Sheldrick, the widow of David Sheldrick, in his fond memory.

Highlights: The main highlight of the trust is the aid that it lends to the Kenya Wildlife services. It assists the Kenya wildlife services by managing a full fledged orphanage, specifically for elephants and rhinos. The trust is headed on its way to popularity from its recent YouTube video release, which was aimed at celebrating ample fan following on social media. One can practically adopt an elephant here, at the bare minimum Price of 50 USD for a year only.

Location: The trust is located at the famous Magadi road in Nairobi, Kenya.

Karen Blixen Museum

Built by a Swedish engineer, back in the year 1912, the museum is left open for the general public on all days, who can take part in guided tours of the museum.

Highlights: The museum features décor items which date back to its original Timings, as well as certain props. Even the grounds are open for touring, which can also be rented for hosting weddings and corporate functions. There is a small gift shop, which sells souvenirs. The location of the bungalow was carved out of coffee farms in the earlier day. One can get here easily by public transport. The museum is home to some of the prized possessions of Karen Blixen that she left behind post stay.

Location: The Karen Blixen Museum lies approximately 10 kilometres outside of Nairobi in Kenya.

Giraffe Centre

Like most other trusts and sanctuaries in the region, the Giraffe Centre was established for the conservation of the Rothschild species of the Giraffe, which is typically found only in the grasslands of East Africa.

Highlights: Initiated by Jock Leslie Melville, the centre was originally started as a captive breeding place for a captured baby giraffe. Since then, the centre has seen many different species of giraffes coming up in its precincts. The centre is also equipped with an education centre for tourists. Visitors can entertain themselves with the heart warming views of feeding giraffes from a raised platform. You can also view a number of warthogs in the centre. Location: The centre lies at a little distance of 5 kilometres from central Nairobi, at Karen.

Nairobi National Museum

Established by the State Corporation, the national museum finds its existence through an act of the parliament. The museum is entrusted with collection, preservation and documentation of the Kenyan cultural heritage and also engage in scientific research.

Bomas Of Kenya

There is an abundance of culture and history, hidden in Kenya. The Bomas of Kenya, is perhaps, the best way to get a good grasp of the authentic Kenyan culture.

Highlights: Displaying the culture and history of Kenya like a miniature, the Bomas of Kenya allows its visitors to relive and experience the deep culture of this place. Ngong Hills

The word Ngong is taken from a Maasai phrase - "enkong'u emuny" which refers to the rhinoceros’ springs that comes from the spring which lies in proximity to the Ngong Town. It is a prominent weekend destination for visitors from around the country.

Highlights: A lot of people visit Ngong Hills to take long walks while others come here to have a hearty Timings picnicking. Both amateur and professional runners as well as joggers also come here. The whole mountain range is actually a gazetted forest reserve that is spread over an area of 21,000 sq. km. Here the highest peak is located at 2460 meters above the sea level and is in the shape of a knuckle.

Location: Ngong Hills is in close proximity to Nairobi. It lies about 22 km south west of the city.

Timings: This hill is open all through the year.

Karura Forest

Bordered by the suburbs of Peponi, Muthaiga, Ridgeways, Gigiri, New Muthaiga, Mathare North and Runda, the western end of the Karura Forest is known as the Sigiria Forest.

Highlights: Nestled at 1041 hectares, Karura Forest is one of the largest urban gazetted forests of the world. This far fetched topographical area is one of the most prominent backwoods on the planet that lies completely within the constrains of the city. The forest houses about 605 species of wildlife that are found Nairobi. This also includes 3 different types of antelopes. It is managed and operated by the Kenya Forest Service (KFS). Some of the most prominent activities that can be undertaken in the Karura Forest include Bird Watching, Cycling, Picnicking, Butterfly watching, Forest Drives and Forest walks.

Location: Karura Forest is located towards the northern end of the Nairobi city.
