How to Reach Kashmir from Pune
By Air (Fastest & Most Convenient):
Flying is the quickest and most preferred way to reach Kashmir from Pune. Srinagar International Airport (SXR), located around 12 km from Srinagar city centre, is the main entry point for travellers. Since Pune is over 2,000 km away from Kashmir, air travel significantly reduces travel time compared to rail or road.
Flight Duration: Approximately 3 to 6 hours (including layovers)
Common Transit Cities: Delhi and Mumbai
Average Return Airfare: INR 9,000 to INR 22,000 per person
Major Airlines: Air India, IndiGo, Akasa Air, and SpiceJet
For travellers booking Kashmir tour packages from Pune with airfare, choosing a Pune-to-Srinagar flight is the most convenient option, offering better connectivity and helping maximise your holiday time.
By Train
Travellers who prefer rail travel can take a train to Jammu Tawi Railway Station, the nearest major railway station connected to Srinagar through India's rail network.
Nearest Railway Station: Jammu Tawi
Distance to Srinagar: Approximately 270 km
Onward Travel Time: Around 7 to 9 hours by taxi or bus via NH44
If you're planning a budget trip to Kashmir, travelling by train can help reduce transportation costs, although the onward road journey from Jammu to Srinagar makes it less convenient than flying.
Best Time to Visit Kashmir from Pune
The best time to visit Kashmir depends on the kind of experience you are looking for:
Spring (March to May):
It is one of the most popular seasons to book Kashmir tours from Pune, with temperatures generally ranging between 8°C and 22°C. The valley witnesses blooming tulip gardens, green landscapes, and comfortable sightseeing conditions. This season is ideal for families, couples, photographers, and first-time visitors. Travellers should note that early spring mornings and evenings can still be chilly, particularly in Gulmarg and Sonmarg.
Summer (June to August):
It brings temperatures between 15°C and 30°C, offering pleasant weather compared to Pune’s heat. Clear skies and accessible mountain roads make it a preferred season for family vacations to Kashmir and longer circuits covering Srinagar, Gulmarg, Pahalgam, and Sonmarg. However, this is also the peak tourist season, resulting in higher hotel rates, increased crowds, and the need for advance bookings.
Autumn (September to November):
This season sees temperatures ranging from 7°C to 25°C and is known for its colourful Chinar foliage and relatively lower tourist numbers. Autumn season is well suited for photographers, families, and honeymooners, thanks to its peaceful surroundings and pleasant weather. Shorter daylight hours and cooler evenings become noticeable from October onwards.
Winter (December to February):
The winter season experiences temperatures between -5°C and 10°C, especially in higher-altitude regions. Snowfall transforms destinations such as Gulmarg into winter sports hubs, making this season ideal for skiing enthusiasts and snow lovers. Travellers should be prepared for cold weather, occasional road closures, flight delays, and weather-related disruptions in mountainous areas. Winter in December is one of the best times to experience the destination’s snow-covered landscapes, but it can also bring occasional flight delays and temporary road closures due to changing weather conditions.
Having operated Kashmir trips across multiple winter seasons, Thrillophilia plans itineraries with weather buffers, works closely with local partners, and provides timely on-ground assistance to minimise disruptions whenever possible. Travellers also receive real-time support to help them adjust plans without missing out on key experiences. For instance, Megha Deshpande from Pune, who booked the Family Getaway to Kashmir | FREE Dal Lake Ride, shared, “I visited Kashmir with my family from Pune in early Feb. The snowfall was so heavy that our flight was delayed, but Thrillophilia's team was constantly in touch on WhatsApp…” showing how proactive support can help make the most of a winter holiday despite unpredictable weather.

It is frequently included in Kashmir itineraries for its easy accessibility and scenic environment. Most visitors spend 2 to 3 hours here, making it suitable for families, couples, and photographers.

A half-day visit is usually sufficient, making it suitable for trekkers, photographers, and travellers seeking a slower pace.
Ride the Gulmarg Gondola: The Gulmarg Gondola is one of the highest cable car systems in the world and provides access to higher-altitude viewpoints in the Pir Panjal range. The Gondola ride offers panoramic mountain views and serves as a gateway to snow activities during winter and alpine landscapes during summer, making it one of the biggest highlights of most Gulmarg tour packages. Gondola tickets typically cost between INR 800 and INR 2,000 per person depending on the phase selected. This activity during Kashmir tours from Pune usually takes 2 to 3 hours and is best enjoyed on clear-weather days.

The activity offers a relaxed way to observe everyday life around the water while enjoying views of the surrounding mountains.
Stay Overnight on a Dal Lake Houseboat: A houseboat stay on Dal Lake allows travellers to experience traditional Kashmiri hospitality while spending the night on the waters of Dal Lake. Most stays include local meals, lake views, and access to floating markets and shikara rides. Prices generally range from INR 2,500 to INR 10,000 per person depending on the category of accommodation. The experience is suitable throughout the year and typically requires booking at least a week in advance during holiday periods. No permits are required.

Explore a Kashmiri Floating Market: The floating market on Dal Lake operates early in the morning and gives visitors the opportunity to observe local trade conducted entirely by boat. Vendors sell fresh produce, flowers, and handicrafts while navigating the waterways. The activity is best experienced at sunrise and should ideally be booked one day in advance. No permits are required.
Try Skiing or Snowboarding in Gulmarg: Gulmarg is India's premier skiing destination and attracts winter sports enthusiasts from across the country, making it one of the must-include activities in all Kashmir tours from Pune. Visitors can choose beginner lessons or advanced runs depending on their experience level, with equipment rentals widely available. The activity is best undertaken between December and March when snow conditions are favourable.

Memorable Kashmir Tour with Excellent Support from Thrillophilia
Our Kashmir tour with Thrillophilia turned out to be a truly memorable experience, not just because of the beauty of Kashmir, but also because of the exceptional support we received during an unexpected situation.
On Day 1, after reaching Delhi Airport from Pune, we were informed that our flight from Delhi to Srinagar had been cancelled due to bad weather, and we were stranded in Delhi for two days. This was a stressful situation, especially since it was our honeymoon trip.

I visited Kashmir with my family from Pune in early Feb. The snowfall was so heavy that our flight was delayed, but Thrillophilia's team was constantly in touch on WhatsApp. Seeing the Drung Frozen Waterfall was like a scene from a movie. It was freezing, but the hot Kahwa kept us going. Srinagar's Polo View market is great for shopping even in the snow. The hospitality of the Kashmiri people is as warm as our Puran Poli. Definitely a 5-star trip for 2026!
Solid scene hai boss! Being from Pune, I’ve never seen 4 feet of snow. We did the Gondola ride in Gulmarg. Phase 1 was a bit scary because of the wind, but the view was kadak. Thrillophilia managed the logistics well, especially the vehicles needed for the Pahalgam. One star less because the houseboat was a bit too cold at night, even with the electric blankets. But overall, it was a paisa vasool adventure.
Kay baraf aahe rao! (What snow, man!). I’m from Pune and I was shocked to see the frozen Jhelum river. Humne wahan local Pheran pehna aur baraf mein ghumne ka maza liya.
Majja aali! Kashmir in Jan is pure magic. Srinagar looked like a dream. Thrillophilia's arrangements were very "sorted" and professional and most importantly it was very affordable.
Everything was perfect. We didn’t have any trouble. Hotels were also good.
