About Pont d'Avignon

The Pont d'Avignon, or Pont Saint-Bénézet, is an iconic medieval bridge spanning the Rhône River in Avignon, France. Originally constructed in the 12th century, the bridge was an architectural marvel of its time, featuring 22 arches. However, it was partially destroyed by floods in the 17th century, leaving only four of its arches intact today. The bridge's historical significance is underscored by its inclusion on the UNESCO World Heritage List. It has also gained cultural fame through the popular French song "Sur le Pont d'Avignon," which celebrates its legacy. Today, the Pont d'Avignon remains a symbol of Avignon's rich medieval history and a picturesque attraction for visitors.
