Assumption Cathedral Church Overview

The Cathedral of the Roman Catholic Diocese, otherwise called Assumption Church is located alongside the Bishop’s House in Vellore. The significant fascination of this Church is a chime tower, which is said to be the most noteworthy ringer tower in India.

The Society of Jesus, a Christian religious organization, propagated Christianity in Vellore around the early 1600s. As the religion popularity in the region, the Assumption church was commissioned in about 1854. It was under the Madras Archdiocese until it was taken over by the Diocese of Vellore in 1952. A Sacramento house of prayer, a gorgeous petition conference centre, and incredible glass work depicting the history of the Church and salvific period are some of the best architectural features of the Assumption Cathedral. A 165 feet tall Belfry and 15 Rosaries are other beautiful and unique features of this Church.

The entire cathedral is incredibly spacious and airy, comfortably accommodating close to 5000 people for a prayer service. A lot of individuals following various religions visit the Church to pray, meditate, or admire the gorgeous building.

Try to visit this Church during special holidays like Christmas, Easter and New Year’s Eve. You can also come here on August 15 to witness an elaborate congregation and dinner celebration.
