Independence Monument (Vimean Ekareach)The capital city of Phnom Penh has many wonderful structures built in authentic Khmer style of architecture. Independence Monument or the Vimean Ekareach is one of them.
Highlights – As the name indicates, this monument was constructed during 1958 to commemorate the independence of Cambodia from France in 1953. Vann Molyvann, the brain behind some of the biggest cultural heritage structures in Cambodia, constructed this monument as well. One look at the monument and we will be reminded of the famous Angkor Wat Temple. This monument has a lotus-shaped stupa and is the main centre of celebrations during national festivals as the ceremonial light is here. Come here during the evening hours and take excellent pictures with your friends and family.
Location – Junction of Norodom Boulevard and Sihanouk Boulevard, Phnom Penh.
