About Jeronimos Monastery

Located in the heart of Lisbon, Jerónimos Monastery is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of most iconic landmarks and Places to visit in Lisbon. Constructed in the 16th century, this monastery is an excellent example of Portugal's unique blend of Gothic, Manueline and Renaissance styles of architecture. 

The monastery itself has a museum dedicated to exploring its history and showcasing a great selection of sacred art from all over the world. There are also numerous chapels inside which have some beautiful religious artwork and statues. A special highlight for many visitors to Jerónimos Monastery is visiting its crypt where many important Portuguese figures have been laid to rest including explorer Vasco Da Gama and writer Luis de Camões.

The beautiful open-air courtyard surrounded by verdant gardens makes it a tranquil oasis away from the hustle and bustle of Lisbon’s city centre. This monastery has been well preserved since it was constructed over 500 years ago making it an exciting yet peaceful place to explore during your visit to Lisbon.
