With over 518 travellers giving an average rating of 4.8 stars, our Cambodia packages have won many hearts. One of the trip reviews go like this:
“We (3 persons) designed our tour to cover 3 nations (i.e. Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand) and our other family group (of 5) selected for Vietnam only package. It was an excellent experience for all of us. The group members were in the age range of 13-75.
Coming to the specifics.
1. Vietnam - Our trip started from Hanoi - Ninh Binh - Halong - Danang - Bana Hills - Hoi An - HCMC - Siem Reap (Cambodia).
The hotel selected by us in Hanoi was Hotel Light at Old Quarters. The city is an old / ancient city with narrow lanes and crowded street market. It was a good experience in Hanoi. The hotel room, restaurant were good. We opted for Veg. food for all during trip. The ground team, restaurant staff at hotel staff ensured to the best possible manner to serve us the best. We also liked the food served. We were aware about lesser availability of Veg. Food in these places. We also took our food with us. But our overall experience with food provided was very good.
Coming to sigh seeing, the drivers, guides were co-operative. They try to make you comfortable with available resources. Language (i would say accent) is a bit of a problem. We solved the same with Google Translate with downloaded Vietnamese Language. We did share our appreciation with good tip to them. It is worth noting, at no point of time we were forced to shell out money for tips. However, based on the services, they provided one may consider tipping.
For Halong Bay we selected Rita Cruise. The cruise was excellent, well maintained. The staff was courteous and joyful. The views are phenomenal.
For Danang - The hotel selected by us was Hotel Sala Danang. The property was amazing. We got 2 rooms on sea facing and 1 city view facing. Both rooms were amazing. If possible request for rooms at higher floors. The rooftop bar / pool was marvelous. The hotel is just 300 mtrs away from beach. The beach is excellent and water is also clean. Everyday from early morning time, there are lot activities going on beach.
The Bana Hill experience was amazing. The cable car to reach Bana Hill was also a memorable experience. Based on our food preference we were given access to an India Buffet Restaurant. The spread was amazing. Certain rides on Bana Hills fun park are paid (on own expense) and certain are free. We enjoyed both types of rides.
Cham Island - It is an isolated island. The transfer was through shared speed boat. It has pristine beach. It is a bit relaxed place. There is also water activity viz. Snorkeling at this place. We did encounter an issue (only let out in the entire trip. The issue is flagged to Thrillophilia and they are looking into it). The place is an isolated one and hence the food served is basic but edible. The resturant owner tried her best to serve Veg. food (which infact is not their forte).
On While returning we were taken to Hoi An. It was an excellent place for walking tour. There were various shops for shopping. It was shop till you drop place. One can visit various cultural places as well. I would suggest to go to old market place, shopping street (Central Market) and one Japanese center (from where we bought some nice goods).
For dinner we found a restaurant serving pure veg food in Da Nang. The food is bit costly (if compared with Indian prices. But it would always be). The per person cost in INR would be about 700 - 800.
HCMC - The city is bubbling with people and vehicles. There is enormous traffic in the city. Hence, always plan to leave early (eventhough you reach your destination early.) The airport of HCMC is horrible. Lot of queues for each point. Hence, keep adequate margin. We had selected La Vela Saigon hotel at HCMC. The hotel was amazing. The view from room was amazing. It is in the middle of city.
One of the group (3 persons) had opted for only 1 day in HCMC and hence, it was only Cu Chi tunnel visit. Whereas the other group (5 persons) had opted for 2 days in HCMC and they enjoyed Mekong Delta Tour as well.
Cambodia: (Siem Reap)
In Cambodia we selected Hotel Somadevi Angkor at Siem Reap. The hotel property is bit old and dated. But was good. Some improvement can be made by Hotel. But overall it was great. The hotel is centrally located and just a walk away from Pub Street, Central Market etc.
On 1st day at Cambodia we had trip to Tonle Sap Lake - Floating city. It was a good experience.
On 2nd Day we had almost full day trip to Angkor Vat Temples. There are various temples in the vicinity. The visit to temple requires lot of walking in uneven surfaces as well. It is not wheel chair friendly. Hence, if anyone is having issue with walking, one may consider selected places.
Laundry shop, bank, money changer (just outside hotel), super store, restaurants are easily accessible by walk from hotel.
Thailand (Bangkok - Pattaya)
In Thailand we selected only 2 places viz. Bangkok (2 days) and Pattaya (2 days). The hotels selected in Bangkok was Hotel Rembrandt Hotel & Suites and in Pattaya it was Hotel Centara Nova Hotel & Spa.
Both the hotels were good. Food and stay was nice. We did not face any issue at either of the place. There is an excellent Thai restaurant very near (almost besides) Rembrandt Hotel. We enjoyed the same. Bangkok is once again like HCMC. Very Busy streets and traffic jams.
We visited Golden Buddha Temple and Gems gallery in Bangkok. Whereas in Pattaya we had half day tour to Coral Island. For Persons with motion sickness may would like to avoid Coral Island tour since, the speed boat ride is bit hard.
During Coral Island tour, there are various water activities one can enjoy (at own cost). They will explain the same in detail before hand. They accept the payment through UPI as well.
Feedback for Thrillophilia Staff and Local Support staff
Sales - Ms. Rashi Goyal:
She handled the entire booking very well. We had mutliple revisions (rather additions) in travellers and it was properly handled. The rates provided were competitive. She was always available for clarifications post booking as well.
Co-Ordinator - Mr. Divyansh Bhati (Vietnam and Cambodia)
The entire trip was properly executed. It was with razor sharp precision. Must compliment him and his team members for excellent execution. A Whatsapp group was formed with local contact. All the information and communication with local contact was through that. It was promptly responded.
Local Contact (Vietnam & Cambodia) - Ms. Jenny P:
She and her team were available all the time for any query posted to them. We sometimes wondered whether they work 24x7. The prescise information was communicated with us atleast a day prior. Shout out to Ms. Jenny and her team for our memorable tour.
Overall we really enjoyed it. Infact we would surely plan more trips through Thrillophilia.
Based on our experience, I would suggest following for those who are planning for Vietnam and Cambodia trip.
1. Local Mobile Sim Card - It would cost around USD 9 to USD 15. Depending on the package you select. Atleast 1 person per group must have mobile. It will really be helpful. At Airport it was available for about USD 13 - USD 15. We requested the local guide who provided us in USD 9. At Cambodia the sim card cost was as low as USD 3. At Thailand the sim card was costing about USD 8 to USD 15.
2. Poncho / Umbrella / Rain Card - Though we did not have to use it, but it is advisable to keep. Especially when visiting Bana Hills.
3. Some snacks, food packets - If one is not consuming food at a place where both Veg and Non Veg is served it is advisable to take some snacks / ready to cook food packets.
4. Currency - If you take Newer version of USD of Higher Denomination it will fetch good value in conversion. For instance, an USD 100 with Blue Strip (Latest series note) fetch more value than old notes or lesser denomination note. Lesser denomination notes can be kept for tip or small purchases.
5. Cloths and footware - Shorts, T Shirts, Short Shirts, Swimming Costume would be ideal. Clogs and slippers would be ideal when going to places with water.
6. For Cambodia Visa - USD 30 (The present charges) to be paid in cash. Hence, keep the exact change (to the extent feasible).
7. Weight and Piece Restrictions in Travelling - Ensure that the same is adhered to all the time. The local airlines generally does not allow even small excess weight in any of the bag.
8. Power Bank - If you are photo freak and uses your phone continuously, it is advisable to carry power bank.
9. For sight seeing adhere to the timing shared by local contact.
10. In both Vietnam and Cambodia, they accept USD as 2nd currency. However, when in Vietnam check the rate offered for USD while shopping. It might be prohibitive sometimes. Whereas in Cambodia the rate of 1 USD for shopping is fixed as Cambodian Riel 4,000 (When we travelled i.e. in Jan 24). Hence, nothing to worry on that count. For Thailand need to have THB. There are very few spaces which accept both. You can find lot of money changing shop. INR is not widely accepted in any of the country. The exchange rates provided sometimes are too low. However, if the rates offered are good, you may make use of INR there. It would be better to stock up USD (Latest currency in higher denomination for conversion)”
