About Kerak Castle

Kerak was originally part of the Kingdom of Jerusalem but later came under the control of the Ayyubids after the Crusaders’ defeat. In 1189, the castle was famously besieged by the forces of the great Muslim general Saladin during the Crusades but withstood the attack for months before finally surrendering.

Today, Kerak Castle stands as a significant historical and archaeological site, attracting visitors from around the world. The castle offers panoramic views of the surrounding region and is an excellent example of medieval military architecture. Visitors can explore its expansive corridors, towers, and dungeons, learning about its storied past and role in the Crusades. It remains a symbol of the region's complex history.
