    Datai Langkawi houses some of the Langkawi Island’s most swanky and exquisite resorts i.e. The Datai and The Andaman. If you are staying here during your trip to Langkawi, there is no other place to visit besides this.

    Location: Located at the Datai area at the north western end of Langkawi, you can reach here via a taxi or a rental car along the road Jalan Datai (#161). From the Pantai Cenang, it is about a 45 minutes drive to reach the Datai beach.

    Highlights: True that there are not too many tourist attractions in this quarter of Langkawi Island however, you can make your way to the Ibrahim Hussein Foundation Museum and the Langkawi Crocodile Farm that are definitely in the close proximity to the Datai Bay. You can also reach these attractions from Kuah and Pantai Kok. Several European visitors can be found here who visit the beach that brings forth breathtaking views.

    Langkawi Cable car is also known as the Sky Cab claims to be the steepest cable car ride in the world; that takes visitors at a height of 708 meters up in the sky, above the sea level. The cable car carries passengers to Mount Mat Cincang - Langkawi's second highest peak and thus is considered as one of the must-visit places to see in Langkawi.

    On a visit here, tourists are advised to carry a jacket as the elevation in height invites chilled winds. The views from the top of this peak make getting onto this ride absolutely worth it and memorable.

Tanjung Rhu beach

One of the beautiful island beaches in Langkawi, Tanjung Rhu is known for its crystal clear water and white sands. This is a delight for tourists who love to come here for a vacation with their friends and families.

Highlights – Wildlife lovers are in for a treat as this beach can be accessed only after passing through dense forests. The flora and fauna at this place are simply exotic and rare, giving you lots of busy moments with your camera. This beach is completely secluded; therefore it offers tourists a great deal of privacy. Limestone cliffs are found in most of the places in the borders of this island. Due to its unexplored character, this beach has pollution-free air and waters, a rarity in a hot island destination like Malaysia. Do not miss boat cruises to explore the mangrove forests here.

Black Sand Beach

Black Sand Beach is also known as the Pantai Pasir Hitam. In Malay, Pantai stands for beach, Pasir means the sand and Hitam stands for black, hence the name. There are several stories explaining the blackness of the sand. Swimming or sunbathing is not recommended here.

Highlights: The beach has small stalls and shops that are run by the local women. These women sell the local dress materials, clothes and accessories. Ideal for fishing, the beach was popular as a fishing village.

Location: Located on the Jalan Teluk Yu road the Black Sand Beach is present on the northern shoreline of Langkawi. About 20kms from Kuah Town it is situated in close proximity to the Shark Bay Beach.

Price: Entry is free

Best Time: Open 24 hours, Black Sand Beach can be visited at any hour of the day. Take note that the stalls and the shops here usually close by sunset.


Telaga Tujuh Waterfalls

One of the most beautiful natural formations of Langkawi, Telaga Tujuh is an awe inspiring view to observe. According to the island’s myth, the waterfall had captivated the hearts of fairies and hence they transformed it their bathing place. Therefore, it is believed that the waterfall and its springs have several healing powers and medicinal value. You can either hike up to the Gunung Mat Cinang or use a cable car to reach the place.

Highlights: The water fall also has 7 absolutely gorgeous pools and hence the name Seven Wells Waterfalls is derived from this. There are few food jaunts for refreshments, namely ‘The loaf’, ‘Eagle Fruit juice and Snacks’ and ‘Dropstone café’. The waterfall is surrounded by frondescence of sintuk and local lime plants.

Location: Gunung Mat Cinang

Hours taken: 3 – 5 hours including transportation. (5 hours if you decide to take a dip)

Dataran Lang (Eagle Square)

Dataran Lang that is also popular as the Eagle Square is one of the most known manmade attraction in Langkawi. It is a huge sculpture of an eagle poised to take flight. It is said to be the ideal place for those postcard-perfect holiday photos courtesy its fancy miniature fountains, terraces and bridges.

Dataran Lang is located besides the welcoming views of Kuah Bay in the southeast corner of Pulau Langkawi.

Highlights: The sight of Eagle Square greets the visitors to the island by way of a ferry ride. It is a massive 12 meter tall statue situated on the most recognizable monument of the island. Certainly the best place to view the ferries ply across the harbor.

Best Time: Eagle Square is open 24 hours however the best time to visit the place is certainly early in the morning or late in the evening when sun is at its best.


Batu Hampar Beach

Batu Hampar Beach is a public beach that is filled with rock formations at both the ends. You can find many trees, mangroves and coconut trees here.

Highlights: Batu Hampar Beach does not have any public facilities like shower or toilets however, since it is exclusively used by the Sheraton hotel guests, they enjoy the access to the hotel amenities including beach chairs, towels, umbrellas and even washrooms located adjacent to the beach. Chairs and umbrellas are also found here.

Location: Situated in the Pantai Kok area in a place known as the Teluk Nibong. Batu Hampar Beach on the western coastline of Langkawi, lies in front of the hotel Sherataon Langkawi Beach Resort.

Price: There is no entry fee to go to this beach.

Best Time: Batu Hampar Beach is a public beach hence you’ll find it open 24 hours of the day.


Gunung Lang Recreational Park

Gunung Lang Recreational Park is set amidst the breathtaking view of the limestone hills of Gunung Lang and Gunung Bilike. It is one of the most scenic spots in Ipoh. The park covers a long area of 30.35 hectares, almost half of which consists of lake. To reach the park you have to take a short boat-ride through the lake, amidst the natural beauty. The park consists of well manicured gardens, a tower which provides the landscape view of the park, gazebos, mini-zoo, campsites and children play grounds.

One of the main attractions of the Park is the artificial waterfall on top of a limestone hill.

Location: The Park is located only 5 KM away from Ipoh town and 3.6 KM from the Ipoh railway station.

Underwater World Langkawi

Pantai Tengah Beach

The Pantai Tengah Beach is the longest stretch of the beach in the Langkawi. Popular amoungst the young families, the beach has a few basic chalets as well as a few big all-inclusive resorts.

Location: Pantai Tengah Beach is located just near the southern road bend of Pantai Cenang. It is believed to be the continuation of the much popular Pantai Cenang.

Highlights: If the truth be told, there is not much of sightseeing here but that of course is a case with most of the islands here in Langkawi. Despite that, it is a great place to unwind and relax. Spas are in abundance here and you can actually find a tour operator who’ll guide you across the island. Shopping outlets may be sparse but the nightlife scene is something that speaks of the vibrancy of the place.

Best Time: Open daily but definitely a must visit during the night hours.


Natural Salt Water Jacuzzi, Air Hangat Village

Ayer Hanghat Village is a multifaceted set in the north of Kuah Town. But what makes it world famous is its three tier natural salt water hot spring wells (one of the three in the world). In the past, it was just a hot salt water spring for the tourists; now the management has actually converted it into a recreational center, with Jacuzzis, fountains and small ponds filled with pumped natural spring water. There is nothing more enriching than embracing the raw nature; hence this place is must for all tourists.

Highlights: Submerge yourself in a beautiful experience; relax and rejuvenate your mind and body in Air Hangat Village. The place also entertains the tourists with cultural shows, gift and souvenir shops, Malaysian dance and Batik painting.

Taman Lagenda Langkawi

Taman Lagenda Langkawi is an artistically beautiful landscaped folklore-themed park. Commenced in 1996, this open-air ‘garden museum’ has the Kuah waterfront as well as several colourful statues. Spread all across the park, these statues have signboards in English that presents the details of myths that are associated with every specific sculpture.

Highlights: Taman Lagenda Langkawi is a 50-hectare compound with a total of about 17 colourful sculptures that bring forth legends including legends of heroic giants, mythical birds, evil ogres and beautiful princesses. It also has four manmade lakes and a narrow strip of beach with walking trails for the joggers.

Location: Taman Lagenda Langkawi is situated besides the Kuah jetty and is about 400m from the jetty. It is located within the walking distance of several of the island’s duty-free stores in Kuah. Here you can get chocolates and alcohol at good bargains.

Ayer Hangat Friday Night Market

Ayer Hangat Friday Night Market is a night market organized in the Ayer Hangat every Friday night. The market usually starts in the afternoon or early evening and is extremely local. This market has a little bit of everything. So, if you wish to browse the local side of Langkawi over the touristy side, this is the place to go.

Highlights: Food is the highlight of the place since it is exceptionally delicious. Nasi Kerabu is one of the most popular dishes here.

Location: Ayer Hangat Friday Night Market is located in close proximity to the Tanjung Rhu Beach, on Jalan Tanjung Rhu.

Food prices: Food is budget friendly and the street food prices prevail. The nasi kerabu will cost you about 5 MYR ($1.37)

Best Time: The market starts at about 5 pm on Friday and goes on till late in the night.


Pantai Kok Beach

Pantai Kok Beach is a home to some of the most high end and upscale resorts such as the Sheraton and Tanjung Sanctuary. Beautiful with clear waters and clean sands it is definitely a great tourist attraction. It is peaceful and calm, making it a popular spot for young couples.

Highlights: Lined with an exquisite modern marina it is further surrounded by verdant jungle and the front of it is a beautiful bay surrounded by limestone hills. It is a home to a string of shops, restaurants and bars. Besides this, there is a post office, petrol station and a bank for your easy access. Besides this, there are several other recreational attractions such as the cable-car ride to the peak of Mat Cincang Mountain and the Telaga Tujuh Waterfalls.

Location: Situated on the western part of the island it is about 12km north of Pantai Cenang.

Best Time: Those who enjoy quieter holiday destination, this is the place to be. Open Daily.


Gunung Jerai

Though there are many mountains in Malaysia, Gunung Jerai stands out purely because of its mystical and mythological charm even today. Located at a height of 3854feet, this peak is also known as Kedah’s Peak.

Highlights – At the base of the mountain, there are traces of ancient (century-old) Buddhist and Hindu temples, reverberating a sense of divinity that cannot be explained in words.

Facts – The trekking trails of this mountain are quite dangerous. There have been various cases of missing people reported in the past. Merbok to Yan trail is the most used route by people coming here. The complete trip may take anywhere between 9 and 10 hours for experienced hikers.

Cenang Beach

Turquoise blue waters, white sandy beaches and a host of local and international tourists, Cenang Beach in the scenic Langkawi Island, is one of the busy beaches in Malaysia. There are lots of resorts here in various ranges to suit the travellers.

Highlights – This is one of the upmarket beaches in Malaysia as you will find tourists from Asia and abroad in large numbers, especially during weekends and school holidays. Apt for water sports activities like swimming, parasailing, jet skiing, para-motoring, banana rides etc. To cater to the tourists, many foods stalls are put up all over the shores. While swimming, watch out for jellyfishes.

Pantai Cenang Beach

Pantai Cenang Beach is said to be the busiest beach town on Langkawi Island.
