About Phnom Bakheng

The temple follows a pyramid-like structure, symbolizing Mount Meru, the sacred center of the universe in Hindu and Buddhist cosmology. It consists of five tiers with seven levels, representing the heavens, and once housed numerous sandstone towers. Over time, many structures have eroded, but Phnom Bakheng remains a significant historical and spiritual site.

Today, it is a popular destination for tourists, especially for its breathtaking sunset views over Angkor Wat and the surrounding jungle. Due to its popularity, visitor access is regulated to preserve its structure. Phnom Bakheng continues to be a key landmark in Cambodia’s rich cultural heritage.
