Danube Delta Overview

Home to over 300 different species of birds and more than 45 species of freshwater fishes, the Danube Delta is one of the best Romania tourist places if you are a nature enthusiast. This is the site where the River Danube blends into the Black Sea creating one of Europe’s largest wetland areas.

If you are a nature lover, the Danube Delta is a must visit for its vast wilderness that still stands unspoiled. You can witness a wide array of water birds from various species, the most common being herons, pelicans, storks, cormorants and terns. You can also see a variety of migrating birds from the steppes, the boreal forests as well as the tundras in the north.

The natural splendour of the place also includes the woodlands of Letea and Caraorman and wildlife such as beavers, the golden jackal, and white-tailed eagles. Spread across an area of almost 2,200 square miles, it comprises rivers, marshes, canals, lakes surrounded by trees, and reed islands. You can go on a tour of the area to witness the gorgeous vistas, some of the most rare and exotic birds, and enjoy great photo moments.
