Hirakud Dam Overview
The Hirakud dam has been constructed on the Mahanadi River, Sambalpur and holds the record for the longest man made dam in India. Built in the year 1956, the architectural beauty of this dam attracts not only the locals but tourists as well. When visiting the dam, also take a round to the Ghanteswari temple, which is popular for its historic lighthouse. Visitors can drive through a 21km long road that takes them over the dam, a perfect way for them to consume the expansive views from the top and experience a craze that comes rarely at a place like this.
