About Deir el-Medina

It was home to the artisans, craftsmen, and laborers who worked on the construction of the royal tombs in the nearby valley during the New Kingdom period (1550-1070 BCE). The village is renowned for its well-preserved archaeological remains, including houses, workshops, and tombs. The layout of Deir el-Medina reflects the organized and structured life of its inhabitants, with narrow streets, small houses, and communal areas. The workers' tombs in the village provide valuable insights into the daily lives, religious beliefs, and social structure of the ancient Egyptians. Excavations at Deir el-Medina have unearthed a wealth of artifacts, texts, and paintings, making it a significant site for understanding ancient Egyptian society and culture during the New Kingdom era.
