From the Sigiriya Rock climb to spending nights on the Bentota coast with a day out at Galle Fort, every detail of the itinerary is planned and verified before you start your tour. At Thrillophilia, we tell you exactly what is included, what is not, and what you can add on, so you can build a 6 days Sri Lanka itinerary that works for your group at the best possible price.

If you are travelling with family, a group, or with your partner, we plan your trip around the practical realities of the route. Every activity on the itinerary comes with a clear note on physical requirements, so you know what works for your group before you leave.

We do not just hand you an itinerary and step back. At Thrillophilia, we stay with you through the trip with 24/7 on-ground support in Sri Lanka, so whether it is a hotel issue in Kandy, a transfer delay on the Bentota road, or a last-minute weather change on the south coast, there is always someone you can reach.

Note: Prices, visa timelines, and references in this guide were last reviewed in April 2026.

Thrillophilia’s Traveller Note

Sunil Verma, a traveller from Indore, who booked the 6-Day Sri Lankan Adventures Tour package in March 2026, said, “We booked our Sri Lanka holiday through Thrillophilia and were extremely happy with the experience. The planning process was simple, and the team helped us choose a great itinerary. One of the best parts of the trip was visiting the Dambulla cave temples, which were absolutely breathtaking. Choose Your 6-Day Sri Lanka Route: Culture, Tea Country, or Beach

Your selected route decides the kind of experience you are going to have, so pick the one that matches what you actually want from the trip.

1. Standard Route: Cultural Triangle + Kandy + Bentota + Colombo

This is one of the most popular and recommended  6-day Sri Lanka itineraries in Thrillophilia by customers travelling from different countries. It is useful for first-time visitors, starting at Sigiriya Rock and Dambulla Cave Temple, moving to Kandy for the Temple of the Tooth, and finishing with 2 nights at Bentota and a day trip to Galle Fort.

2. Tea Country Route: Cultural Triangle + Kandy + Nuwara Eliya + Colombo

The first three days will follow the same standard route, but after Kandy, you can head inland to Nuwara Eliya through tea estates, visit the Pedro Tea Estate, and spend a day on the scenic train to Ella for the Nine Arches Bridge, with the drive from Kandy to Nuwara Eliya taking around 4 hours.

3. Beach + Galle Route: Kandy + Bentota + Galle + Colombo

You arrive in Colombo, and take a drive to Kandy for 2 nights, then head towards the south to Bentota for the beach and Madu Ganga river safari, before finishing with a day at Galle Fort on Day 5, which is 1 hour 15 minutes from Bentota.

4. Which Route to Pick Based on Your Travel Priorities

  • First-time visitors should rely on the standard route. Sigiriya, Kandy, and Bentota cover the three main draws of the island in one trip.
  • If you are travelling between May and September, then avoid Bentota. The south-west coast is in monsoon during these months. Switch to the tea country route or plan a Trincomalee itinerary on the east coast instead.
  • If travelling with kids or seniors, then the Standard route works for you, but replace the Sigiriya Rock climb with Pidurangala Rock next door. Pidurangala takes 25 minutes to climb and gives a direct view of Sigiriya. Entry is LKR 500 compared to USD 30 for Sigiriya.
  • For those who have already visited Sigiriya, for them the Beach and Galle route can be a good choice for them. Skip the Cultural Triangle and spend more time on the coast.
  • Interested in tea estates and hill country, then the Tea Country route is the best.

Sri Lanka 6 Days Itinerary: Standard Route (Cultural Triangle + Kandy + Bentota + Colombo)

1. Day 1: Arrive Colombo, Drive to Sigiriya (170 km, 4 Hours)

After you land at Bandaranaike International Airport in Negombo, where your driver will be waiting to take you straight to Sigiriya, around 170 km and 4 hours away on the Colombo to Dambulla highway. Skip any stops today, get to Sigiriya before dark, and get up early because the climb starts at 6:30 AM tomorrow.

2. Day 2: Sigiriya Rock Climb and Dambulla Cave Temple

Be at the Sigiriya gates by 6:30 AM when they open. The climb is 1,200 steps, takes about 2 hours up and 45 minutes down, and entry is approximately INR 2,800 per person, after which you drive 17 km to Dambulla Cave Temple for the afternoon. If the day went well for you and you want to travel more rather than taking a rest, you can add Polonnaruwa as an evening stop.

3. Day 3: Sigiriya to Kandy and Temple of the Tooth Evening Puja

The drive from Sigiriya to Kandy is 90 km and takes around 2 hours and 30 minutes, with an optional spice garden stop in Matale on the way, so aim to reach Kandy by afternoon in time for the 6:30 PM puja at the Temple of the Tooth, which is the best of the three daily pujas for the drumming. Knees and shoulders must be covered before entering, and cameras are limited to the courtyard.

4. Day 4: Kandy to Bentota via Royal Botanical Gardens, Peradeniya

Start your morning at Royal Botanical Gardens Peradeniya, just 6 km from central Kandy, entry LKR 3,000 per person, spend about an hour, and then get on the road to Bentota, which is 230 km and takes around 4 hours and 30 minutes. You will reach by late afternoon, so check in, drop your bags, and head to the beach for the evening.

5. Day 5: Bentota Beach and Galle Fort Day Trip

Spend the morning at Bentota beach, where jet ski and banana boat rides are available for between INR 1,500 and INR 3,500 per activity, then after lunch, drive to Galle Fort, 1 hour 15 minutes away, walk the ramparts, explore the streets, and head back before it gets late. Do not try to add Mirissa because it will turn a good day into a very long drive because of its distance.

6. Day 6: Bentota to Colombo and Departure

The drive from Bentota to Bandaranaike International Airport is 110 km and takes around 2 hours, and if your flight is in the afternoon, you have time for a stop at Galle Face Green or a walk through Pettah Market in Colombo on the way. For morning flights, leave Bentota by 5:30 AM to stay ahead of traffic on the Colombo expressway.

Thrillophilia’s Traveller Note

Pradeep Kumar, traveller from Hyderabad, who booked the Exotic Sri Lanka | Couple Special package in April 2026, said, “The planning was thorough from the start. The Sigiriya rock fortress climb was physically demanding, but the view from the summit made it completely worthwhile. Ella to Kandy train through the tea country was the most scenic few hours of the entire trip. Our coordinator was reachable on WhatsApp throughout and sorted a hotel room issue on Day 3 within an hour of us reporting it. Would book with Thrillophilia again for the next trip.”

Best Time to Visit Sri Lanka: South-West vs. East Coast Monsoon Split

  • December to March is the time to do the standard 6-day Sri Lanka itinerary. Colombo and Bentota sit at 26°C to 31°C, Sigiriya runs hotter at 28°C to 33°C, and Kandy stays cooler at 20°C to 27°C. If you can only pick one month out of this window, go with February.
  • From May to September, the south-west monsoon settles over Bentota, Galle, and Mirissa and does not move until the season is done. Humidity goes up, temperatures stay between 27°C and 32°C, and rainfall on the south-west coast averages 200 to 300 mm per month between June and August. If this is the only time you can travel, move the beach part of your itinerary to Trincomalee on the east coast, which stays dry through this entire period.
  • October and November are unpredictable across the island with temperatures around 27°C to 30°C and heavier cloud cover than peak season. The upside is that hotel prices drop by 30 to 40 percent compared to December and January, so if budget matters more than sunshine, these two months are worth considering.
  • If your trip falls in August, the Esala Perahera at the Temple of the Tooth in Kandy is something you should plan around. It is a 10-day procession with elephants, drummers, and dancers through the streets after dark, and Kandy evenings in August sit at a comfortable 20°C to 26°C for watching it. Book your Kandy hotel at least 3 months in advance because the town fills up fast during Perahera dates.
  • December to March for the south-west route, May to September for Trincomalee on the east coast, and October to November if keeping costs down is the priority, and some rain along the way does not bother you.

Sri Lanka ETA for Indians: 2026 Process, Fee, and Documents

  • If you are travelling to Sri Lanka on an Indian passport, you need an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) before you get on the plane. The whole process is online at eta.gov.lk, the official portal of the Sri Lanka Department of Immigration and Emigration, the form takes about 10 minutes to fill out, and the approval comes to your email within 24 to 72 hours.
  • The fee at the moment is somewhere between USD 35 and USD 50 per person, which works out to around INR 2,900 to INR 4,200. Sri Lanka has revised this more than once since 2023, so rather than going by what you read somewhere, just head to eta.gov.lk and check what the fee actually is before you apply.
  • The ETA is valid for 30 days from the day you land and gives you double entry, meaning if your trip includes a quick detour to the Maldives or a short trip back to India, you can come back into Sri Lanka without applying all over again.
  • Before you open the application, keep these ready: a passport with at least 6 months' validity from your travel date, a confirmed return flight ticket, a hotel booking confirmation, a recent bank statement, and the email address where you want the approval sent.
  • Visa on arrival exists at Bandaranaike International Airport, but it costs more than the online ETA, and after a flight, you really do not want to be standing in a queue at the immigration counter sorting paperwork. Get the ETA done before you leave, and check eta.gov.lk in the week before you travel because the rules around this have shifted more than once between 2023 and 2025.

How to Reach Sri Lanka From India: Direct Flights and CMB Airport Transfer

  • Getting to Sri Lanka from India is straight and simple. There are direct flights from Chennai, Bengaluru, Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram, Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Delhi to Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB) on IndiGo, SriLankan Airlines, Air India, and Air India Express.
  • Chennai is the city to fly from if you have a choice. The flight is just 1 hour 20 minutes, return fares are the lowest of any Indian city, and there are multiple departures every day, which makes it easy to pick a time that works around your itinerary.
  • Something worth knowing before you land is that Bandaranaike International Airport is in Negombo, not Colombo. It is situated about 30 km north of central Colombo, and the drive into the city takes around 45 minutes.
  • From the airport, the drive to Sigiriya for the standard and tea country routes is about 170 km and takes approx 4 hours. For the beach and Galle route starting in Kandy, it is 115 km and takes around 3 hours and 30 minutes.
  • If you are travelling between December and March, do not wait too long to book your flights. Fares from Chennai and Bengaluru go up noticeably as the travel date gets closer during peak season, and booking 6 to 8 weeks in advance usually gets you the better end of the fare range.

Where to Stay on a 6-Day Sri Lanka Trip: Hotels by Stop

1. Where to Stay in Sigiriya

Staying close to the Sigiriya makes things much easier since the climb starts at 6:30 AM, and the last thing you want is a long drive before you even get to the gates. Budget guesthouses start at around INR 2,500 per night, and mid-range hotels with a pool run between INR 4,500 and INR 8,000 per night.

2. Where to Stay in Kandy

Try to pick a hotel within 10 to 15 minutes of the Temple of the Tooth so you are not scrambling after a long drive. Budget guesthouses in Kandy start at around INR 2,000 per night, and mid-range hotels run between INR 4,000 and INR 9,000 per night.

3. Where to Stay in Bentota

Bentota hotels are situated either on the beach or along the lagoon, and if watersports are on your plan, then staying by the beach side makes more sense. Mid-range hotels run between INR 5,000 and INR 12,000 per night with breakfast included, and Galle Fort is 1 hour 15 minutes away, so the Day 5 trip is easy from anywhere in Bentota.

4. Where to Stay in Nuwara Eliya

Nuwara Eliya has tea estate bungalows, colonial-style hotels, and standard guesthouses to choose from, with budget options starting at around INR 2,500 per night and mid-range properties running between INR 4,500 and INR 9,000. The town is situated at 1,868 metres and gets cold at night, especially between November and February, so check that your hotel has hot water or a geyser before you book it.

5. Where to Stay in Galle

Staying inside Galle Fort puts you right in the middle of the ramparts and the old streets, and fort area guesthouses and boutique properties run between INR 4,000 and INR 14,000 per night. If the fort atmosphere is not something you are after, beach hotels outside the fort start at around INR 5,000 per night and go higher for sea-facing rooms.

6. Where to Stay in Colombo

If your flight is in the evening and you want a few hours in the city, staying near Galle Face Green or the Fort area keeps you close to the sights and the airport expressway. Budget hotels in Colombo start at around INR 3,000 per night, and mid-range options in the Fort and Kollupitiya area run between INR 6,000 and INR 14,000 per night.

Thrillophilia’s Traveller Note

Riya Goyal, traveller from Gurgaon, who booked the Scenic Sri Lanka Tour with Sigiriya and Ella in March 2026, said, “We are extremely happy with the Sri Lanka trip planned by Thrillophilia. From comfortable hotels to well-organised transfers and sightseeing, everything went exactly as promised. The destinations were stunning, and the itinerary allowed us to explore the country without feeling rushed. The support team was always available whenever we needed assistance. It was a truly memorable trip, and we would happily recommend Thrillophilia to anyone planning a Sri Lanka vacation.”

Sri Lanka 6 Days Tour Packages from Indian Cities: Compare Available Options

  • Thrillophilia has six Sri Lanka itineraries, 6 days starting from INR 35,000 per person and going up to INR 75,000 per person. The most popular one covers the Cultural Triangle, Kandy, and Bentota, and the price difference between packages usually comes down to the hotels and whether flights are included or not.
  • Most standard Sri Lanka itineraries, 6 days cover Sigiriya Rock, Dambulla Cave Temple, Temple of the Tooth in Kandy, Royal Botanical Gardens Peradeniya, Bentota beach, and a Galle Fort day trip. A private AC vehicle with driver, daily breakfast, and on-ground support are included in most of these packages.
  • If you are travelling between May and September, check whether the package offers Trincomalee instead of Bentota since the south-west coast is in monsoon during these months. Not every operator offers this swap, so confirm with Thrillophilia before you book if your dates fall in this window.
  • Before you settle on a package, check whether the Sigiriya entry fee of USD 30 per person is included or paid at the site, whether you get a private vehicle or shared transfer, and whether breakfast is at the hotel or a meal allowance. These three things make a real difference to how the trip feels on the ground.
  • Most 6-day Sri Lanka packages on Thrillophilia can be adjusted to suit what you want. You can swap Pinnawala for Udawalawe Elephant Transit Home, shift the beach stop to Trincomalee for summer travel, add Polonnaruwa to the Sigiriya day, or replace Galle with Mirissa whale-watching between November and April. Make sure any changes are confirmed before you pay.

Why Travellers Trust Thrillophilia for Sri Lanka Trips

Thrillophilia has been putting together Sri Lanka trips for Indian travellers for several years and has over 1000 verified reviews for Sri Lanka packages with a 4.6 rating. The packages start from INR 35,000 per person, and every listing goes through an internal check before it goes live, so what you see on the page, the itinerary, the price, and what is included, is what you actually get on the trip.

The team handles ETA documentation support and connects you with local guides and drivers who have done the Sri Lanka circuit enough times to know it well. If something does not go to plan on the ground, a road issue near Sigiriya, a hotel problem in Kandy, or weather affecting your Bentota days, there is someone you can actually reach.

Most packages can also be adjusted, so if you want to swap Pinnawala for Udawalawe, move the beach stop to Trincomalee for a summer trip, or add Polonnaruwa to your Sigiriya day, that can be sorted before you confirm the booking.

Travel Updates and Advisories

  • Sri Lanka welcomed over 1.5 million tourists in 2024, and the circuit that most Indian travellers do, Colombo, Sigiriya, Kandy, Bentota, and Galle, is running without any issues. Indians are one of the largest visitor groups to Sri Lanka, and the welcome on the ground reflects that.
  • The Indian government has no active travel advisory against visiting Sri Lanka, and the country is fully open for tourism in 2026. If you want to double-check before you book, the Ministry of External Affairs website at mea.gov.in is the right place to look.
  • Your Sri Lanka ETA is applied for online at eta.gov.lk, which is run by the Sri Lanka Department of Immigration and Emigration, and most approvals land in your email within 24 hours. Check the portal in the week before you apply, since the fee and processing details get updated from time to time.
  • The Sri Lankan rupee is stable, and the USD is widely accepted at hotels and restaurants across the main tourist stops. Keep some LKR on you for local eateries and smaller shops, and carry USD cash for entry fees since Sigiriya charges USD 30 per person at the gate.
  • The Sri Lanka Tourism Board keeps updated information on attractions, entry fees, and travel requirements at sltda.gov.lk, and it is worth a quick check before your trip. Also, save your operator's local contact number on your phone before you fly so you have someone to call if you need anything on the ground.

How much does a 6-day Sri Lanka trip cost from India in 2026?

A mid-range 6-day Sri Lanka trip costs between INR 53,500 and INR 92,500 per person with flights included. For a family of 4 on twin-sharing, the total comes to INR 2,15,000 to INR 3,70,000. Chennai is the cheapest departure point with return fares starting at INR 12,000.

Is 6 days enough for Sri Lanka?

Yes, 6 days covers Sigiriya, Kandy, and Bentota comfortably with 1 night in Sigiriya, 1 night in Kandy, 2 nights in Bentota, and 1 night in Colombo. Adding Nuwara Eliya or Ella requires either dropping Bentota or extending the trip to 7 or 8 days.

Do Indians need a visa for Sri Lanka?

Indian passport holders need an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) applied for online at eta.gov.lk. It costs approximately USD 35 to USD 50 per person, approvals come within 24 to 72 hours, and the ETA is valid for 30 days with double entry.

What is the best time to visit Sri Lanka?

December to March is the best window for the standard itinerary covering the south-west coast and Cultural Triangle, with February being the most reliable month. May to September flips the beach destination from Bentota to Trincomalee as the south-west monsoon is active during this period.

How do you reach Sri Lanka from India?

Direct flights operate to Bandaranaike International Airport from Chennai, Bengaluru, Kochi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Delhi on IndiGo, SriLankan Airlines, Air India, and Air India Express. Chennai is the closest at 1 hour 20 minutes with return fares from INR 12,000, and the airport is 30 km north of central Colombo in Negombo.

Should we climb Sigiriya or Pidurangala?

Sigiriya has 1,200 steps, takes about 2 hours up and 45 minutes down, and costs USD 30 per person. Pidurangala is right next door, takes 25 minutes, costs LKR 500, and gives a direct view of Sigiriya from the top. Families with young children, seniors, or anyone with knee issues are better off with Pidurangala.

Is the Kandy to Ella scenic train worth it?

Yes, the route passes through tea fields, tunnels, and over the Nine Arches Bridge at Ella and is one of the most photographed train journeys in Asia. Second class reserved seats cost around LKR 100 to LKR 200 and sell out 30 days in advance, so book at railway.gov.lk well before your trip.

Is vegetarian Indian food available in Sri Lanka?

Yes, vegetarian and Indian food is available at most hotels and restaurants in Colombo, Kandy, Bentota, and Galle. Smaller restaurants on the Cultural Triangle route have limited options, so ask your operator to arrange a vegetarian meal plan in advance if needed.

Can we customise the 6-day Sri Lanka itinerary?

Yes, most Thrillophilia 6-day packages can be adjusted before you confirm.
