About Newstead Abbey

Located in the middle of Nottinghamshire, this mediaeval mansion is one of the stunning tourist attractions in Nottingham being surrounded by a magnificent park and gardens. Newstead, originally built as a monastery in the late 12th century, housed the poet Lord Byron from 1808 to 1814. Discover the private apartments of the poets and wander through elaborately recreated Victorian rooms when you visit the Abbey. Paths meander around lakes, ponds, and waterfalls in the grounds and parkland of Newstead Abbey, which encompass more than 300 acres. From the late-spring rhododendrons to the autumnal Japanese maples, the formal gardens are a beautiful site to visit year-round. On Saturdays and Sundays at 3 o'clock, you can enjoy a tour of a historic home.
