International Maritime Museum Overview

Located in the HafenCity quarter of the city, the International Maritime Museum is a private museum that has a personal marine collection of Peter Tamm. Witness artifacts related to the marine world such as paintings, artwork, and other instruments. Peter Tamm started his collection at a very young age and would always ask his family and relatives to give him gifts related to the marine world.

Opened in 2008, the museum had the largest marine collection spread over nine levels. Witness many exhibits which tell a unique story of life on the sea through the artifacts. Peter Tamm would recommend the visitors to start exploring the museum from the top to the ground level. The museum also has the world's largest bone ship collection which is located on the 8th floor of the museum.

The top attraction here is the ship simulator that lets you navigate a 300-meter-long container ship through the world’s largest ports. You can also take a guided tour to learn more about the artifacts and paintings as you go through them. Currently, you can witness over 1 million pictures, 100,000 books, 38,000 miniature ships, along with many paintings and artifacts such as telescopes, and nautical instruments at the museum.
