    On your second day, you will start trekking from Batal to Chandratal. You will be trekking for around 6 hours to the enchanting Chandratal Lake. Bhrigu Lake

Also known as the ‘Pool of Gods’, Bhrigu Lake is a majestic an picturesque water body that is located at a distance of about 43km from the town of Manali. Each year, the lake attracts thousands of trekkers and visitors who come here to appreciate the serene, crystal clear blue pools of the lake as a part of their itinerary to visit Manali tourist places. 

Rising to a height of about 14,100ft it is located on the eastern courses of the Rohtang Pass. One of the many glacial lakes of the Kullu Valley, it makes up for being a perfect weekend outing on your next trip to Manali. 

 The lake is bordered by snowy peaks of the Himalayas on all sides and is a moderate to difficult trekking escapade.  Also nearby is the Nehru Kund, which is a natural water spring that is fed by the waters of the Bhrigu Lake and is truly picturesque. 

The trekking route to Bhrigu Lake starts either at the village of Gulaba or Vasishth Temple, either ways it perches you up at a height of almost 14000ft right on the second day, making it one of the most captivating treks of the Pir Panjal Ranges.  Locals of the village believe that this lake has been blessed by the sages and Gods which is why, it never freezes over completely even in the times of harsh winters.

Prashar Lake

Sage Prashar is the reason Prashar Lake got its name ages ago. One visits this quintessential lake will be unknowingly directed to oblivion and for sure the serenity will let every visitor linger for more. Located in Mandi village, Himachal Pradesh, the iconic attraction apart from the lake is the three stories pagoda like temple structure near the lake. 2730 meters above the lake seats amidst the rejuvenating sets of nature’s miracles including the snow-clad peaks in the backdrop and River Beas flowing so fast through the valley down. One can get access to the lake through Drang. The age of temple lengthens back to 13th century and the lake has one more surprise within it that is a floating island. Though visitors are seen in plenty over here, no one could accurately fathom the depth the lake goes into, till date.

The Castle Manali

Built in 1460 AD, the Naggar Castle has a unique architecture that comprises of stones and wood. About a century ago, this castle of Raja Sidh Singh of Kullu was converted into a rest house, and presently it is being taken care by the Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation.

In its rechristened avatar, the castle is now The Castle Heritage Hotel. Naggar Castle came into the limelight after a bollywood movie was shot here. A grand Tibetan carnival dance was shot here and hence this castle grew in touristic prominence.

Van Vihar National Park

One of the most frequent places to visit in Manali, the Van Vihar National Park attracts visitors mainly because of its ideal location, which is bang on the Mall road in Manali. The park is a welcome respite from the crowds and the pollution with its tall and shady groves of Deodar, birch and pine. There are a number of wooden and concrete benches within the park, which provide rest, relaxation and recreation to its visitors.

Take off your shoes and take a leisurely walk across the garden paths of this wonderful haven of nature. You could also have fun cruising around in a boat that sails in the small pond within the vicinity of this park. Set amidst beautiful and verdant environs, the park is a perfect respite for anyone who chooses to visit it and makes up for a great place for a spontaneous picnic or simply a long walk!

Gyuto Monastery

Gyuto Monastery is one of the most famous and popular monasteries in Tibet. This monastery is well known for its tantric meditation and people there study a lot about this subject. It is also known for its various tantric ritual arts and Buddhist philosophy. Gyuto monastery was founded in the year 1474 by the prime disciple of the 1st Dalai Lama.

Location: It is situated in the town of Dharamshala which is easy to reach through road, rail as well as airways. Transportation is not a major issue while visiting the place.

Highlights: You can find majestic statues of Buddha with a backdrop of snow clad mountains covering it. If you want to have a nice afternoon, it is the most peaceful and serene place to be at.



Best time to visit: Since this is a monastery, there is no particular season that makes any difference. However, if you are planning a full trip of the place, April-May has to be the best months.

Kangra Fort

It is a famous fort located in the outskirts of the famous place Kangra near Dharamshala. This fort was built by the Royal Rajput family of the state of Kangra in the 15th Century. However, the fort was heavily damaged by an earthquake in the year 1905. Still, it has a good structure which attracts a lot of tourists.

Location: The distance of the fort from Dharamshala is around 20 km but it has proper connectivity to roadways which makes it easier to get there.

Highlights: The beautiful entrance is something what people love. The way the whole fort is built is completely marvelous. Inside the fort, you will find defaced statues of many lords that these people worship. This fort is considered as one of the most beautiful forts in India and people love it for the built structure.



Best time to visit: You can plan a visit anytime of the year.

Sunset Point

We all know the beauty of sunset points, there are various such points throughout our country and the world. The sunset point in Kasauli attracts a lot of visitors because of the stunning view of the valleys. Apart from tourists, even the residents sometime come here to savour the beautiful scene of the sunset.

Location: It is located at the end of the upper mall road. Busses and cabs are available at the place so transportation is very easy.

Highlights: The major highlight is the view of the sunset point. People come here to enjoy, relax and click a lot of beautiful pictures of the setting sun. It is one of the best places to enjoy the evening.

Best time to visit: For seeing the sunset, you need to visit the place at dusk around 6 in the evening. It is a natural event and thus you need to time yourself well to see it.

Bakrota Hills

Take a walk amidst the snow capped mountains at the Bakrota Hills. Breathe in the pure air and feel all refreshed and rejuvenated. The Hills are covered with dense Deodar forests, making it look like a lovely green rug, pulled over by the mountains. 

The mesmerising landscape here will leave you spellbound. Every year Dalhousie is blessed with heavy snow fall. During this season the magnificent Bakrota hills glistens like diamonds. Spend some time here with your dear ones and be in awe of Mother Nature’s miraculous creations.

St. Patrick's Church

Wondering what places to visit in Dalhousie? Just add St. Patrick's Church to your list. Dalhousie is said to be a melange of nature’s beauty and a glimpse of the Victorian era. Approximately at a distance of 2KM from Dalhousie, lies the St. Patrick’s Church. It is a 104 years old church, situated on Mother Nature’s lap. 

This route showcases the beguiling exquisiteness of Himachal Pradesh. Several devotees, tourists and travellers visit the church every year and our awe struck by its splendour. This is a very apt place for photography. One can visit the church any day between 9 AM to 5 PM.

Dharamsala War Memorial

Located at the entry to Dharamsala town, the Dharamsala War Memorial is a memorial constructed to honor the brave men and women who died in service to our country post Independence. The memorial is located amidst beautiful scenery and is a monument that represents bravery and sacrifice. 

The monument has the names of all the soldiers and martyrs, who died in the 1947-48, 1962, 1965, and 1971 war and peacekeeping missions. This is a structure that holds much importance. The sacrifices of soldiers are often forgotten in popular media and structures such as these remind and inspire one to remember and keep fighting the good fight. When here, do keep this in your list of things to do in Dharamsala.

Chail Wildlife Sanctuary

Previously a hunting ground for the Maharaja of Patiala, Chail Wildlife Sanctuary is amongst the lesser known wildlife sanctuaries in the country. Situated 63 km from Shimla in Himachal Pradesh, it’s unmistakingly one of the most well conserved wildlife sanctuaries and is home to a opulent collection of flora and fauna.

Situated in the Himalayan ranges at a height of 7152 feet, Chail Wildlife Sanctuary boasts a pleasant climate, magnificent views and a rich abundance of greenery. The sanctuary is a paradise for nature lovers and bird watchers.

Chail Wildlife Sanctuary is home to a variety of fauna and flora. Some of the most popular animal species of the park includes European red deer, wild boar, goral, spotted deer, sambar, common langur, Himalayan black bear, flying squirrel, Indian porcupine, etc. The flora it hosts include the native Pine and Deodar trees.

Best time to Visit: March to October.

Lakshmi Narayan Temple

The Lakshmi Narayan Temple is one of the oldest and largest temple in Chamba, which was built in around 11th century by Raja Sahil Verma. The complex of Lakshmi Narayan temple has around six temples in total, all dedicated to either Lord Shiva or Lord Vishnu. The main idol of Lord Vishnu is made up of rare marble, which used to be found in the mountains of Vindhyas. 

Apart from the six main temples, there are three more temples in the complex, namely Radha Krishna Temple, Gauri Shankar Temple, and Shiva Temple of chandragupta.

While in Chamba, your trip will be incomplete without visiting this great temple. The temple opens twice a day and the timings include 6 AM to 12.30 PM and again from 2.30 PM to 8.30 PM and the best season to visit the temple is from April to October.

Solang Valley

Located atop the Kullu Valley, the Solang Valley is ideal for adventure sports such as parachuting, skating, zorbing and paragliding. The slopes of this valley also provide ski lovers an ideal destination to enjoy this activity on a trip to Manali. During the summer months, the snow on these slopes evaporates, resulting in ideal ground for zorbing, where a person hurls down a slope in an indestructible bouncy ball.

Roopkund Lake Trek

The Roopkund Lake is situated high up in the Garhwal Mountains in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand. This lake is of much historical and religious importance. It was also called the Mystery or Skeletal Lake after a large number of human skeletons were found in it in 1942 by a Forest Officer.

Following this discovery, a number of scientists visited the lake to find out the reason for the skeletons being there and it was eventually concluded that the skeletons belonged to some pilgrims who were caught unawares in a flash hailstorm.

Due to the huge chunks of ice that came with the hailstorm, the pilgrims died due to injuries to their skulls. This story was aired in national and international media and since them the Roopkund Lake has become a popular tourist destination.


The trek to Roopkund Lake showcases the best of Himalayan beauty. The trek begins at Lohajung, which is situated at an elevation of 3200 metres and goes on for five days till you reach the lake, which is at an altitude of 5000 metres. The first couple of days will take you through beautiful villages, forests, rivers and Bugyals.

The air will get thinner and thinner as you ascend and gain altitude. So it is very important that you are in the best of health and fitness when you set out for this trek. Higher energy levels will allow you to adjust better with the changing environment and enjoy the views offered by the region. Your team leader will also offer you tips on how to cope with the changing levels of the atmosphere.

The trekking trail followed during the Roopkund trek coincides with that of the Raj Jay Yatra pilgrimage route. This is conducted during a festival dedicated to goddess Nanda Devi and the residents of nearby village participate in this festival dressed in their traditional attire.
