How to Reach Himachal Pradesh from Kolkata?
1. By Air
To begin your Himachal Pradesh trip from Kolkata, you can take a connecting flight from Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport to Shimla Airport (via Delhi and Amritsar) which might take around 5-6 hours. Alternatively, you can board a connecting flight from Kolkata to Kullu-Manali Airport (via Delhi and Amritsar) which might also take 5 to 6 hours. In either case, you can reach popular places like Shimla, Manali, and Dharamshala from the airport, since they are all easily accessible by taxi or bus.
2. By Train
Within this option to reach Himachal, simply take a train from Kolkata to Kalka. This journey will last around 29 to 30 hours and upon arrival in Kalka you can catch the Kalka-Shimla toy train. With this, add another 5 to 6 hours of scenic ride to your experience.
Best Time to Visit Himachal Pradesh
Though Himachal Pradesh is stunning year-round, the best time to travel there depends on the kind of holiday you’re planning. Whether you're looking for some snow, festivals, or lush green valleys, there's definitely a perfect Himachal Pradesh package from Kolkata to match every season.
1. Summer (March to June)
The temperatures range from 22°C to 37°C. This makes summer the best time for exploring Shimla, Manali, and Dharamshala. Long sunny days and cool evenings make it ideal for sightseeing, trekking, and camping. If you get a chance, attend local festivals like the Hadimba Devi Fair and Shimla Summer Festival as well.
2. Monsoon (July to September)
Temperatures drop to 15°C–25°C, and the hills get covered in mist and fresh greenery. While landslides can disrupt travel, this off-season comes with fewer crowds and vibrant events like the Minjar Festival in Chamba.
3. Winter (December to February)
Expect snowfall, frozen lakes, and temperatures ranging from 0°C to 15°C. This is unarguably the best time to visit Solang Valley for skiing, enjoy the snow-covered charm of Dalhousie, or attend the Manali Winter Carnival.
1. Manali: You can go paragliding in Solang Valley, visit ancient temples, relax in hot springs, and café-hop with one of our well-curated packages.
2. Shimla: Maximise your fun by enjoying a scenic ride with Kalka–Shimla toy train, walking The Ridge, and exploring the grand Viceregal Lodge.
3. Kasol: You can relax by the Parvati River, trek to Kheerganga through forested trails, explore the hippie vibe of Tosh, and visit the sacred hot springs at Manikaran Sahib.
4. Dharamshala & McLeodganj: Explore the Dalai Lama Temple, hike to Bhagsunag Waterfall, and enjoy Tibetan cuisine. With monasteries like Namgyal and Nechung, pay a visit for a spiritual mountain retreat.
5. Spiti Valley: Spiti will be the perfect travel spot for you if you’re an adventure lover. You can visit Key Monastery, camp beside the turquoise Chandratal Lake, head to ancient villages, or trek through the wild beauty of Pin Valley.
1. Trek to Triund Hill: You can go on an easy hike near McLeodganj with our Himachal Pradesh tour package from Kolkata and enjoy viewing the Dhauladhar mountain.
2. Explore Great Himalayan National Park: See some rare Himalayan flora and fauna, or go on a thrilling jungle trek across rivers, glaciers, and alpine meadows.
3. Fly over Bir Billing: Take off from one of the world’s top paragliding sites and fly over the mountains to admire beautiful aerial views.
4. Visit Khajjiar Lake: Whether you want to walk through snow-covered meadows, ride horses, try zorbing, or just relax by the lake - Khajjiar Lake has it all.
5. Attend Kullu Dussehra Festival: Get to experience this colourful week-long celebration with grand processions, folk performances, and rituals set against scenic Himalayan backdrops.
It was an amazing experience looking at the tall mountains and narrow valley throughout, scary and beautiful at the same time. Each turn had a different landscape. For people, especially from south, seeing snow capped tall mountains from so near itself is extraordinary. And one cannot believe that there are tourist places like Langza, Key monastery, Que monastery, Kunsum Pass, all at those high altitudes with good roads and clean environment!
We had hired 2 cabs and both the drivers were experts and managed to drive fast and safe in those difficult terrains allowing us to soak in the beauty of the valley. The road to Chandratal lake was bad... Read More
This was my first experience with Thrillophilia, and it was truly amazing. The accommodation was comfortable, and thrillophilia team was very supportive and helpful throughout the trip. Overall, I had a great experience and look forward to traveling with Thrillophilia again in the future.
We had an absolutely seamless experience from start to finish. Our trip coordinator was incredibly friendly and helpful, taking care of every little detail. The driver was a true professional, he navigated even the world's most dangerous roads with such skill that they didn't look dangerous at all. Such a gem! Our food and stays were excellent; we particularly appreciated the thoughtful additions like bed heaters and the chance to savor authentic local food. Best of all, the itinerary went exactly as planned. We highly recommend this team for an unforgettable trip.
