About the Destination:
Prashar Lake trek (2,730m), which happily takes people to the lake which is completely frozen in the winter and a dazzling beauty otherwise, is considered to be an important trek in Himachal Pradesh. The picture-perfect blue water lake is surrounded by the majestic Dhauladhar Ranges in Kullu Valley and it is always kept as a secret in the Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh. If you set out for a trek to Prashar Lake, you will be going through the charming trails crossing the forests and several small streams.
As you climb the trails up, you will come to meet the local people and it is the best chance to know the indigenous culture closely. Also, once you finish the trek, you will have the satisfied heart filled with plenty of beautiful views of Dhauladhar, Pir Panjal and Kinnaur mountain ranges.

The Prashar Lake trek is fit for individuals of all interest- and expertise levels. Sounds exciting, doesn't it?! With views fit for a king, the trail, leading to the lake region i.e. from the city of Mandi to the little village of Baggi, become private and exclusive to every group that visits. It is of prime importance to remain hydrated and careful during every part of the journey owing to unpredictable, slippery paths and the formation of ice on the surfaces. The setting of the campsite in Prashar Lake location is yet another pleasant surprise because of its closeness to the water and its harmony with nature.

We will meet at Panarsa and then we will drive from Panarsa to Jwalapur the starting point for Prashar Lake Trek. You will Ascend and descend through the easy trekking trail to Prashar Lake but the views are captivating. Trek for about 4 to 5 hours to reach Prashar Lake which has a 13th century Pagoda Temple just beside the lake.
Start the day with sumptuous breakfast and trek back to Jwalapur Village second day trek is a gradual descend. Once you reach Jwalapur after the Parashar Lake trek drive back to Jwalapur. The Parashar Lake trek can be done all year round and if you want to do snow trek then you can do it in December, January and February.

It was the perfect trek for a biegniers, but the person who never done trek before i will tell that it was Not that easy trek that you think too, Actually it was the moderate trek. We start trekking morning 10 am after travelling 15 km through, jungle and river we reached the destination prashar lake. The lake is accompanied by fast flowing beas river the lake prashar is very scenic. With deep blue waters and a pagoda structured temple it create a very sacred feelings in visitors mind. The most striking characteristic of the place is its silence that you may experience nowhere else.

We were a group of 50 students who went on a trip booked through thrillophilia. We had two stops in our journey, Kullu, and Prashar Lake. Kullu: We reached Kullu after an overnight bus journey. There were 10 tents, each with clean attached bathrooms. The tents were in a secluded area by the riverside. The location was beautiful and private. We did river rafting (around 4 kms) and rope activities by the day time. Around the evening, we all enjoyed by the bonfire. You can also walk around the streets during the day, and get a feel of the place. All in all, it was a very memorable experience. Next morning, we left for Mandi in a bus, and then left for trekking to Prashar Lake. It was a picturesque 7 km trek, doable for beginners. The view was extremely scenic especially at the top. There were 14 tents for all us, and a sleeping bag for each (The temperature had really fallen due to a hailstorm). Tasty food was served by the lake . There was a great view of snow-clad mountains from the location. All in all, the place was very serene and beautiful. One drawback was, that there were just three dirty bathrooms for 50 people. This trip is very suitable for adventurous people wanting a break from the city life in a destination which is not overcrowded.

Prashar lake is one of the most beautiful and scenic places. We had visited the place between April and July and again in September and November and the later one is the best time i would suggest for anyone to visit such a peaceful and serene beauty!

Eye capturing valleys and excellent all around views of snow capped peak that makes this lakes beautiful and refreshing. The lake view and the visit to the age old pagoda temples was peaceful. All in all it is a paradise!
What is the best time to go for Prashar Lake Trek?
Prashar Lake trek in Himachal Pradesh is a famous one in the region that expects tourists and adventure lovers from early May to the end of July and then to September before the onset of heavy winter. Each time shows a different appearance of the valley and the surroundings. In winter, the lake will be completely frozen and if you are ready to take up the challenge in it, then winter can be the best but the trails will be very difficult to conquer. Avoiding monsoon will be a good choice since heavy rain can harm the fun.
What is the difficulty level of Prashar Lake Trek?
During spring season, when the surroundings are lush green and beautiful, Prashar Lake trek is quite easy to do. The steeps and slopes will be gentle as well as the routes will be wider. But if there is heavy snowfall, then the trek becomes difficult since the trails will be very slippery and tricky. The trekking pole can help you to an extent during that time. When it is raining also, accessing the roads to Prashar Lake is a difficult task.
What clothing or equipment do we need to carry from our side during this trek?
Jeans or trekking pants, shirts or T shirts, windproof jackets, warm and thick fleece, woolen sweater, thermal inner wear, socks, scarfs, woolen gloves etc as clothing essentials to prevent the spine chilling cold at Prashar Lake, especially if you are going during winter. Comfortable trekking shoes, lightweight floater or sandals, raincoat, water bottle, caps and hats, sun glasses, torch, medicines, personal toiletries, comfortable backpack bag, waterproof covers or bags etc can be the essential equipment you can carry from your side.
Which type of shoes should I carry on the trek to Prashar Lake?
It is always better to carry proper trekking shoes while you head out to do Prashar Lake trek because on the way you will find many slippery patches as well as rough roads. To get a good grip, you will need proper trekking shoes since normal sports shoes won’t be comfortable to climb the trails up till the summit.
Can I have liquor or smoke while we're on the trek?
Usually all travel agencies and trekking providers do not support the use of alcohol and cigarettes on any type of trek since both these activities can let your body dehydrate easily. Then you will find it very difficult to complete the stretches. Alcohol will open the pores in your skin and let the cold get inside and make the body temperature in terms with the temperature outside. But it will finally lead you to feel dehydrated and thirsty. Hence try not to smoke or consume alcohol. Many of the trekking tours will not allow the participants do any such activities during the trek.
How is Prashar Lake Trek weather?
From December to April, there can be snowing at Baggi Village as well as Prashar Lake. The day temperature varies from 8 to 16 degree Celsius on these months and at night the temperature will come to the lowest of -5 degree Celsius. From May to October, the day temperature will be ranging from 8 to 16 degree Celsius and at night it will be from 2 to 8 degree Celsius. Apart from winter and monsoon, all the other months are moderately warm at Baggi Village and slightly cold at Prashar Lake.
Is Diamox is advisable?
Yes, to prevent Acute Mountain Sickness or simply altitude sickness, Diamox is a must medicine you should have handy. You will be reaching a height of about 9000 feet and it will be great if you have 10-12 diamox tablets with you to avoid the uneasiness happens due to acute mountain sickness.
How do I get in shape?
A proper cardio vascular structure is needed for doing Prashar Lake trek since you might cross slippery roads and gradual climbs through forest ranges, high altitude landscapes and rough terrains. For making your lungs work properly during the trek and get oxygen intake smooth, then you need to follow some exercises that will help your cardio vascular systems function properly. Start with jogging every day and daily increase the distance and speed. Simple exercises like squats, skipping, swimming will also be perfect for your muscles and flexibility. Stretching exercises can also be of use while perfecting your body to do this trek.
What are washroom/toilet facilities like on the trek?
There will be separate toilet tents arranged at each campsite for men and women. Depending on the size of the group, the number of toilets varies. Toilet tents will have a deep pit, mound of soil and a shovel to cover it up. All of them usually will be dry toilets where you have to use toilet papers alone. Room freshener will also be provided.
What kind of physical fitness will be required for the trek to Prashar Lake?
The Prashar Lake trek is considered to be an easy trek. From Baggi at 4,439 feet, you will climb upto about 4,039 feet to Prashar Lake. This will take a lot of energy from you and hence you will need a good physical fitness with better cardio vascular endurance, strength to climb up the summit through slippery routes and flexibility. To gain the perfect physical fitness to partake in Bhubhu Pass Trek, you can do some short exercises at home, even indoor exercises are fine. Start with jogging for a short distance and gradually, increase the speed and distance. Stretching, skipping, three sets of squats, etc to stretch your muscles which will help you carry the backpack and do the trek easily.
