3 Days 2 Nights Gangtok Tour Packages & Itineraries
A 3-day Gangtok tour package in 2026 costs INR 12,526 to INR 24,999 per person on a twin-sharing, land-only basis. From Kolkata, flight-inclusive packages run INR 18,000 to INR 35,000. From Delhi or Mumbai, expect INR 24,000 to INR 42,000. You reach Gangtok via a 4-hour drive from Bagdogra Airport (IXB). Pakyong Airport (PYG) is closer but has had unreliable operations since 2019. Use Bagdogra.
Your 3-day Gangtok itinerary covers the town of Gangtok plus a one-day trip. Day 2 includes Tsomgo Lake, Baba Mandir and optional Nathula Pass. North Sikkim, including Lachung and Lachen, needs a minimum of 5 nights. It is a part of more extensive Sikkim tour packages.
Nathula opens only on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Book the permit 4 to 7 days ahead. Plan your travel dates around this first. Tsomgo Lake sits at 3,753m and Nathula at 4,310m. Carry ORS and skip Nathula if anyone in your group has a cardiac or respiratory condition. Our packages have an average rating of 4.6 stars across 7500-plus bookings.

How to Reach Gangtok
Gangtok has no airport. Every route into the city ends with a 4-hour road trip.
By Air
Bagdogra Airport (IXB) is 124 km from Gangtok and is your standard arrival point. The drive takes 4 hours via NH10. Pakyong Airport (PYG) is closer at 30 km and 1 hour away, but has had intermittent closures since 2019.
From Kolkata, a return flight to IXB costs INR 4,000 to INR 7,500. Flights take 1 hour. IndiGo, Air India and SpiceJet operate this route. From Delhi, expect an INR 8,000 to INR 14,500 return on IndiGo or Air India. From Mumbai, return fares run INR 11,000 to INR 18,500. Bengaluru has limited direct options via IndiGo at INR 13,000 to INR 20,000. Chennai and Hyderabad travellers typically connect via Kolkata.
Gangtok packages from Kolkata remain the most affordable flight-inclusive option by a clear margin.
By Train
New Jalpaiguri (NJP) is the main railhead, 124 km from Gangtok. From Kolkata, the Darjeeling Mail or Padatik Express covers the route in 10 to 12 hours overnight. Train fares run INR 800 to INR 2,200. After NJP, a shared Sumo to Gangtok costs INR 350 to INR 500 per seat. A private cab runs INR 3,500 to INR 4,500 for the full vehicle.
Thrillophilia's Traveller's Note
Shreya Sankhe, one of the travellers from Mumbai who booked the Wonders of Gangtok | Journey Through Lakes & Tibetan Heritage package, shared in April 2025 that, "We booked with Thrillophilia for a 9-day trip to Gangtok and Darjeeling. Our contact person, Gautam, with whom I did the booking, was available throughout the trip. We had a partial booking of our hotel stay as we had a voucher from Karma club, and the rest of the trip was to be organised around it. Still, they did a great job of it. Hotel rooms were decent but could be better. They have a tie-up with Ankita Holidays for the North East. The local person, Mr Shambu Singh, kept in touch daily to check and update us with the driver details, etc. Overall, a good trip. We enjoyed it"

Altitude and Acclimatisation Note for the Tsomgo / Nathula Day
Day 2 of your Gangtok 3-day itinerary reaches altitudes that most Indian city travellers are not used to. Tsomgo Lake sits at 3,753m. Baba Mandir is at 4,054m. Nathula Pass reaches 4,310m. You gain over 500m in altitude across a single morning drive. Headaches, nausea and shortness of breath are common at these heights for sea-level travellers.
A few practical points before you go:
- Carry ORS and stay hydrated
- Avoid heavy meals the night before and morning of Day 2
- Avoid alcohol the night before
- Do not run or exert yourself at the pass
- Skip Nathula if you have cardiac, hypertension or respiratory conditions
Note: Senior travellers and children under 5 should consider the Tsomgo and Baba Mandir route without Nathula. That alternate still covers significant altitude but stays below 4,100m.
Sikkim Permits: PAP for Tsomgo, Restricted Permit for Nathula
Permits are not optional on this route – you need them before you leave Gangtok on Day 2.
Protected Area Permit (PAP) - Tsomgo Lake and Baba Mandir
- Required for Indian and foreign nationals
- Issued via the Sikkim Tourism office or through your operator
- Cost: approximately INR 200 per Indian national
- Lead time: same-day or 1 day in advance
Nathula Pass Restricted Permit
- Required for Indian nationals only. Foreign passport holders cannot visit Nathula.
- Issued jointly by Sikkim Tourism and the Indian Army, via a registered Gangtok operator
- Cost: approximately INR 400 to INR 600 per Indian national
- Lead time: 4 to 7 days in advance during peak season
- Open Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday only. No same-day permit issued.
Documents required for all permits:
- 2 passport-size photos
- Photocopy of Voter ID, Passport or Aadhaar
- Children need a birth certificate or a school ID
Note: When you book a package with us, we handle the permit applications. The Nathula permit lead time is the one constraint you must plan your travel dates around.

Best Time to Visit Gangtok
Your travel dates decide more than just the weather – they decide whether Nathula is accessible at all.
January to March
Temperatures range from -1°C to 18°C. Tsomgo Lake freezes solid through February and stays partially frozen into March. Yak rides on the lake banks are available from December through February. Nathula stays open on permitted days but closes on heavy-snowfall days, roughly 10 to 15 days across January and February. March improves significantly – rhododendrons begin blooming, and Nathula access becomes reliable. Pricing is mid-range through February, then rises as peak season approaches.
April to June
April is the best single month for a 3-day Gangtok itinerary. Temperatures sit at 9°C to 22°C, Nathula is reliably open, and Kanchenjunga views are clear. May stays excellent. June is workable early in the month, but the NH10 landslide risk rises by late June. Book hotels 4 to 6 months ahead for April and May travel.
July to September
Avoid this window for a 3-day trip to Gangtok. NH10 between Siliguri and Gangtok is one of India's most landslide-prone corridors. The highway closes intermittently from mid-July through mid-September. Most reputable operators do not run Gangtok tours between 15 July and 15 September. Mid-September onwards improves cautiously.
October to December
October and November are the second-best windows for a Gangtok tour package for 3 days. Roads are dry, views are clear, and Nathula access is reliable. December brings early snowfall at Tsomgo and Nathula, with Christmas and New Year adding to demand. Nathula may close on heavy-snow days in late December.

faqs
How much does a Gangtok tour package for 3 days cost in 2026?
Per person land-only (twin-sharing) costs INR 12,526 - 24,999. Flight-inclusive from Kolkata runs INR 16,000 - 29,500. From Delhi, expect INR 20,000 - 36,500 per person. A family of 4 travelling flight-inclusive from Kolkata should budget INR 64,000 - 1,18,000.
Is 3 days enough for Gangtok?
Yes, for the standard Gangtok 3-day itinerary shape: Gangtok town on Day 1, Tsomgo Lake and Nathula on Day 2, and local sightseeing on Day 3. Three days are not enough for North Sikkim. That requires a minimum of 4 additional nights on top.
Is a 2-day trip to Gangtok worth it?
A 22-day trip to Gangtok covers only Gangtok town. Day 1 is largely used up by the 4-hour drive from Bagdogra or New Jalpaiguri (NJP). No day-trips to Tsomgo or Nathula are possible. Most people find 2 days rushed. Three days is the recommended minimum.
Can I visit North Sikkim in 3 days?
No. Destinations like Lachung, Lachen, Yumthang, and Gurudongmar require a minimum of 3 additional nights beyond Gangtok. The total trip becomes 5 nights or 6 days. A standard Gangtok itinerary for 3 days does not cover North Sikkim.
How do I reach Gangtok?
Fly into Bagdogra Airport (IXB), 124 km from Gangtok, then drive 4 hours via NH10. Alternatively, take an overnight train to New Jalpaiguri (NJP) and drive 4 hours. Pakyong Airport (PYG) is closer at 30 km but has remained non-operational as of May 2026. Use Bagdogra as your entry point.
What is the best time for a 3-day trip to Gangtok?
April and October-November are the best months. Views are clear, Nathula is reliably open, and NH10 is safe. March and May are also good. December - February offers snow at Tsomgo and Nathula but comes with Nathula closure risk. Avoid July to early September due to the NH10 landslide risk on this corridor.
Do I need a permit for Tsomgo Lake and Nathula Pass?
Yes. Tsomgo Lake and Baba Mandir require a Protected Area Permit (PAP), available same-day via your operator for approximately INR 200 per Indian national. Nathula Pass needs an additional restricted permit costing INR 400 - 600. It is open only from Wednesday to Sunday and must be applied for 4 - 7 days in advance during peak season. Your tour operator handles both for package buyers.
Can foreign nationals visit Nathula Pass?
No. Nathula Pass is restricted to Indian nationals only. If you hold a foreign passport, you can visit Tsomgo Lake and Baba Mandir with a PAP arranged through Sikkim Tourism and the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO).
What documents do I need for Gangtok permits?
Carry 2 passport-size photos and a photocopy of your Voter ID, Passport, or Aadhaar (verify accepted IDs for 2026 at sikkimtourism.gov.in). Children need a birth certificate or school ID for permit applications.
What is included in a Gangtok tour package for 3 days?
Standard packages include 2 nights of hotel accommodation, transfers from Bagdogra Airport (IXB) or NJP, a private SUV for the Tsomgo and Nathula day trip, Gangtok town sightseeing, all permit fees, and daily breakfast.
What is typically not included?
Lunch and dinner (unless full board); the ropeway ticket at Deorali (INR 110 - 150 per adult); yak rides at Tsomgo; alcohol; tips; and flights in land-only packages.
Is there a risk of altitude sickness on the Nathula day?
Yes. Your Gangtok 3-day itinerary takes you from Gangtok town to Tsomgo Lake at 3,753m and Nathula Pass at 4,310m. This is significant for travellers from sea-level cities. Avoid alcohol the night before. Carry ORS and eat light on the way up. If you have cardiac, hypertension, or respiratory conditions, consult your doctor before booking the Nathula leg.
Can I see snow during my 33-night Gangtok itinerary?
Snow at Tsomgo Lake and Nathula Pass is reliable from December to March, with peak snowfall from mid-December to mid-February. Gangtok town itself rarely sees snow. A three-night Gangtok itinerary planned in this window gives good snow access, but Nathula may close on heavy-snowfall days.
Is a Gangtok 3-day tour suitable for senior travellers?
Gangtok town is comfortable for seniors. The Nathula day at 4,310m is physically demanding. Seniors with cardiac, hypertensive, or respiratory conditions should skip Nathula and do the gentler Tsomgo Lake and Baba Mandir day trip instead. Your operator can plan the alternate route.
Is a Gangtok 33-day tour suitable for children?
Yes, for children aged 6 and above. The Nathula altitude of 4,310m is not advisable for children under 5. The Tsomgo Lake day-trip without Nathula works well for children aged 4 and above.
Is vegetarian Indian food available in Gangtok?
Yes. MG Marg has several vegetarian-friendly options, including Tibetan, South Indian, and Marwari cuisine. Baker's Cafe on MG Marg is a reliable stop for veg snacks and light meals. Marwari thali places near the taxi stand cater specifically to vegetarian North Indian travellers.
What’s the cheapest origin for a 3-day Gangtok flight package?
Kolkata is the cheapest origin by a clear margin. A CCU to IXB return flight costs INR 4,000 - 7,500 (2026 fares) and takes 1 hour. Your total flight-inclusive trip from Kolkata costs INR 16,000 - 29,500 per person. No other metro comes close to the total cost.
Can I extend my Gangtok itinerary for 3 days into a longer trip?
Yes. Adding 2 nights takes you to Pelling for Khangchendzonga views and Pemayangtse Monastery. Adding 3 nights opens up North Sikkim: Lachung, Yumthang Valley, and Gurudongmar Lake. Browse Sikkim tour packages for longer itinerary options.
What is the local transport like within Gangtok town?
Gangtok has a well-organised local taxi system, but shared cabs operate only on fixed routes between stands. For a 3-day trip, it is most efficient to use the dedicated private vehicle included in your package, as walking the steep slopes can be tiring. Note that MG Marg is a "no-traffic zone," so you will always be dropped at the nearest perimeter point.
Is there a dress code for visiting monasteries in Gangtok?
While there is no strict "uniform," you must dress modestly to enter monasteries like Enchey or Rumtek; avoid shorts, sleeveless tops, and short skirts. You are required to remove your shoes and hats before entering the main prayer halls. Photography is usually allowed in the courtyard but strictly prohibited inside the inner sanctums.
