Zoya Hussain, one of our verified travellers who booked the Centara Mirage Lagoon, Maldives package, shared in May 2026 that "We stayed at Centara Mirage Lagoon Maldives, and it turned out to be exactly the kind of holiday we needed. The resort has that family-friendly energy without losing the luxury feel. What stood out most was how easy everything felt once we arrived: activities, meals, and transfers, all well arranged so we could just settle in and enjoy. The lagoon villas were beautiful, but honestly the simple moments became the best ones: watching the water change colours through the day, long breakfasts, and evenings by the beach. • Accommodation: Confirmed booking at a registered hotel, resort, or guesthouse for the entire stay.

How to Reach the Maldives from Mumbai

Mumbai offers the strongest and most convenient air connectivity to the Maldives in India, making it the preferred departure point for a quick international beach escape.

Direct Flights

IndiGo and Air India operate direct flights between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (BOM) and Velana International Airport (MLE). The flight duration is approximately 2 hours and 45 minutes, making this Maldives trip package from Mumbai route shorter than many domestic journeys within India.

Connecting Flights

If direct flight timings do not match your schedule, connecting flights are also available through airlines such as SriLankan Airlines, Emirates, and Qatar Airways. These routes usually connect through Colombo, Dubai, or Doha and can take between 6 and 10 hours, depending on layover duration.

Airport-to-resort Transfer

Once you arrive at Velana International Airport, your onwards journey depends on where your resort is located. Transfers are arranged by seaplane, domestic flight, or speedboat based on distance and accessibility. Seaplane and domestic flight transfers are usually more expensive, but they also offer stunning views of coral islands, turquoise lagoons, and the Maldives from above. For resorts near Malé, especially in Kaafu Atoll, speedboat transfers are the most practical option since they are faster, more budget-friendly, and ideal for shorter distances.

Best Time to Go on a Maldives Holiday Package from Mumbai

A Mumbai to Maldives trip offers moderate coastal weather suitable for trips at any time of the year. The Maldives holiday package from Mumbai is always a suitable coastal trip location; it still offers unique experiences in each season.

Peak Season (October to January)

  • The dry season with clear water is the best time for water activities like snorkelling and diving.
  • From December to January, experience school holidays for most of the Indian schools, making it the best time for a family holiday.
  • Book your villa 3 to 4 months before the trip, as this season is crowded.
  • February to April is quieter with fewer crowds but equally good.

Shoulder Season (February to May)

  • This season is 15 to 30% cheaper than peak-season bookings, making it the best time to experience luxurious water villas under budget.
  • Some places may face moderate rain.
  • Water is still clear during this season for water activities.
  • This season witnesses fewer travellers, which includes more exclusivity.

Monsoon Season (June to September)

  • This season experiences the southwest monsoon with rougher seas.
  • Outdoor activities are less reliable during this season.
  • 30 to 50% discount on all bookings, including flights and luxurious water villa stays.
  • The overwater villa remains unaffected by the monsoon during this season.
  • Best time for honeymoon couples searching for a budget-friendly water villa stay.

This place is more on the quiet side. Mostly couples and very calm throughout. After sunset it gets even more silent, which we actually liked. Villas are modern, clean, and give proper privacy. No disturbance, no crowd feeling anywhere on the island. Food was decent, not extraordinary but good enough for the stay. Breakfast had enough options. Service was smooth. Staff were helpful but not over the top. If you’re expecting a lot of activities, this may feel slow. But if the idea is to just switch off and relax, it works well.

Holiday Inn Kandooma was what Thrillophilia recommended and it turned out to be exactly right for what we wanted. The house reef is accessible directly from the beach we saw four species of rays and a turtle on the first snorkel without a guide or a boat. My husband does not swim and the resort had a glass-bottom kayak which let him see everything I was describing. Simran from the booking team had customised the stay down to room type and meal plan. Adaaran Meedhupparu in the Maldives is the kind of resort that makes you genuinely not want to leave. The overwater bungalow had a glass floor panel - watching fish swim beneath you at night was extraordinary. House reef snorkelling directly from the beach gave us sea turtles and rays on our very first morning. Service was impeccable, food was diverse and the sunset cruise on the last evening was a perfect goodbye. If you are looking for a true luxury Maldives experience, this property absolutely delivers.

Maldives Tours From mumbai FAQs

Are there direct flights from Mumbai to the Maldives?

Yes, there are direct flights from Mumbai to the Maldives. Airlines like IndiGo operate frequent, nonstop flights directly from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (BOM) to Velana International Airport (MLE) in Malé. The average flight duration for this nonstop journey is roughly 2 hours and 50 minutes, making it a very quick and convenient tropical getaway. Depending on the season and how early you book, round-trip ticket prices typically start from around ₹32,345.

Do Indians need a visa for the Maldives?

No, Indian citizens do not need to apply for a visa in advance. The Maldives offers a free tourist visa on arrival to all Indian passport holders, which is typically valid for a stay of up to 30 days. To secure this at immigration, you simply need a valid passport, proof of a confirmed hotel booking, a return flight ticket, and a pre-submitted online Traveller Declaration form.

Which is better: speedboat or seaplane transfer?

The choice depends entirely on your budget, resort location, and desired experience. Speedboat transfers are highly cost-effective, operate 24/7, and are best for resorts located close to Malé, though the ride can get bumpy in rough weather. Conversely, seaplane transfers offer breathtaking, bucket-list aerial views of the atolls and are mandatory for distant resorts, but they are significantly more expensive and only fly during daylight hours.

Is the Maldives good for a family trip from Mumbai?

Yes, the Maldives is excellent for a family trip from Mumbai due to its short travel time and family-oriented resorts. The quick 3-hour direct flight from Mumbai ensures a hassle-free journey, which is highly convenient when travelling with children or elderly family members. Most Maldivian resorts feature excellent kids' clubs, multi-bedroom family villas, shallow lagoons for safe swimming, and engaging activities like dolphin cruises and snorkelling.

What is the best time to visit the Maldives from Mumbai?

The best time to visit the Maldives from Mumbai is during the dry season, which spans from November to April. These months offer picture-perfect tropical weather with clear blue skies, low humidity, and calm seas, making it absolute bliss for snorkelling, diving, and beach activities. While January to March marks the absolute peak window for perfect weather, travelling during the shoulder months of late October or May can secure you fantastic resort discounts while still providing plenty of sunshine.

Can I use Indian Rupees (INR) in the Maldives?

No, you cannot use Indian Rupees (INR) for transactions in the Maldives. The official currency is the Maldivian Rufiyaa (MVR), but US Dollars (USD) are universally accepted and preferred at all resorts, hotels, and tourist establishments. It is highly recommended to carry a mix of physical USD cash for incidental tips and international credit or debit cards, which are widely accepted for settling major resort bills.

What is the difference between staying at a private resort island versus a locally inhabited island?

Private island resorts offer complete luxury, exclusive beaches, and overwater villas, making them ideal for high-end leisure travellers seeking total privacy. In contrast, local islands like Maafushi or Hulhumalé are far more budget-friendly, allowing you to experience Maldivian culture and access affordable guesthouses. Keep in mind that local islands have strict regulations regarding dress codes and public alcohol consumption, which do not apply on private resorts.

What water sports and activities should be included in a standard Maldive holiday package from Mumbai booking?

A well-rounded itinerary should feature snorkelling safaris to explore coral reefs, sunset dolphin cruises, and kayaking or stand-up paddleboarding. Thrill-seekers should look for packages adding jet skiing, parasailing, or scuba diving excursions, which the Maldives is globally famous for. Many premium packages also include complimentary non-motorized water sports directly through your chosen resort.

Is an all-inclusive meal plan worth it for travellers flying from Mumbai?

Yes, upgrading to an all-inclusive plan is highly recommended because private island resorts import all food, making individual restaurant meals very expensive. An all-inclusive package covers your daily breakfast, lunch, dinner, and a wide selection of beverages, which helps you avoid unexpected bills at checkout. It provides complete peace of mind, allowing you to enjoy your tropical vacation without constantly calculating dining costs.

What are the top accommodation types available in Maldivian trip from Mumbai?

The two primary accommodation choices are beachfront villas, which offer direct access to the sand, and iconic overwater villas built on stilts above the lagoon. Many travellers from Mumbai prefer splitting their stay by spending two nights in a beach villa and two nights in a water villa to get the best of both worlds. For ultimate luxury, you can also opt for villas that feature their own private plunge pools or overwater hammocks.

How much advance booking is required to get the best Maldive holiday package from Mumbai?

It is ideal to book your tour package roughly 4 to 6 months in advance, especially if you plan to travel during the peak winter season. Booking early secures cheaper direct flight tickets out of Mumbai and unlocks early-bird resort discounts or free villa upgrades. Last-minute bookings during the dry season often suffer from limited resort availability and significantly higher airfares.
