  4. From Chennai: With prices starting at INR 35,350 per person, Maldives packages from Chennai offer one of the quickest routes to the islands with a flight duration of around 2 hours via IndiGo and SriLankan Airlines.
  5. From Kochi: Maldives packages from Kerala start from INR 62,500 per person and feature the shortest direct journey at approximately 1 hour 30 minutes with IndiGo and Maldivian Airlines, making them particularly suitable for families travelling with young children.

Transfers from Velena International Airport:

Once you land at Velena International Airport, your transfer to the resort depends on the island’s distance and location.

  • Speedboat Transfers: These are used for resorts in the North and South Male Atolls. They take between 20 and 60 minutes and operate 24 hours a day.
  • Seaplane Transfers: Resorts located in far atolls require a seaplane, which takes 25-60 minutes. They only operate during daylight hours, typically until 6 pm. If your international flight arrives after 5.30 pm, you must stay overnight near the airport. It adds approximately INR 8,000 to INR 15,000 to your total cost and delays your resort arrival.
  • Domestic Flight + Speedboat: For the most distant resorts, you will take a domestic flight followed by a speedboat. This method is often preferred for late arrivals as it offers more flexible baggage rules and operational hours.

Maldives Family Tours FAQs

How much does a Maldives family package cost from India in 2026?

For a 5-night trip in 2026, a Maldives family package costs about ₹3,15,000 to ₹6,00,000 for a family of 4, with flights. It covers a mid-range resort island, sightseeing, transfers, meals, and activities. The per-person cost ranges from ₹78,999 to ₹150,000, depending on the season. Also, prices can go up sharply in December and during school holidays.

What is the cost of a Maldives package for a family of 4?

The standard Maldives packages for a family of 4 cost ₹3,15,000 to ₹6,00,000 for 5 nights, with flights. Budget stays can drop to ₹180,000 with fewer inclusions, while mid-range resorts are safer for families, ranging from ₹300,000 to ₹500,000. The cost of luxury villas starts from ₹720,000.

Do Indians need a visa for the Maldives?

No, Indians do not need to apply for a Maldives visa in advance. They get a free 30-day visa on arrival at Velena International Airport. All you need to do is carry a passport with 6 months’ validity, return tickets, and hotel bookings. You should also show funds of about $100 per day if asked. Another important thing to note is that you need to file the IMUGA online declaration 96 hours before arrival.

What is the IMUGA declaration, and how do I file it?

The IMUGA declaration is a mandatory online travel form for all passengers, including kids. You must fill it out on the official portal (imuga.immigration.gov.mv) 96 hours before arrival. The process is simple, takes only about 10 minutes, and there is no submission fee.

How many days are enough for a Maldives family trip?

5 nights and 6 days are enough for a family Maldives trip, as it gives you ample time to explore without being rushed. A shorter 3 to 4-night trip will feel tight, especially with kids. You can stretch your vacation to 6-7 nights if you plan to stay in two resorts.

What is the best time to visit the Maldives with family?

The best time to visit the Maldives with family is between late October and May, as you will get better prices and can manage school holidays. December to April offers the best weather on the island, but it can cost more. For a budget-friendly trip, September and October provide the lowest flight prices. So, pick dates based on your child’s school schedule.

Which is the best Maldives resort for kids?

Sun Siyam Iru Fushi and Niyama are two of the best mid-range resorts in the Maldives. For a luxurious stay, you can pick Soneva Fushi, particularly when travelling with older kids. If you want a budget-friendly stay, you can go to Centara Ras Fushi.

Are there kids’ clubs in Maldives resorts?

Yes, there are kids’ clubs in several Maldives resorts. Many structured sessions like art, crafts, cooking, and marine activities, take place here. These programmes are split by age, like Kandiland at Kandima for 3-11 years and the Explorers at Niyama for 4-11 years. Bouncy Tots + Tweens is another famous programme at Sun Siyam Iru Fushi for kids aged 3-12 years old.

Resort island or local island: which is better for families?

The resort island is better for kids under 8 years of age. You will get easy meals and kids' club access in a controlled environment here. On the other hand, local islands like Maafushi or Hulhumale are better with older kids with cultural curiosity.

What’s the transfer time to my Maldives resort?

The speedboat transfers take 20-60 minutes from Velana International Airport for the North/South Male Atoll. Seaplanes take 25-60 minutes for further atolls, but they depend on daylight hours. If you are staying on a resort island, you need a domestic flight and a boat, which can take up to 2 hours.

Are flights from India direct to the Maldives?

Yes, there are direct flights from Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Kochi, Chennai, and Hyderabad in India to the Maldives. It will take you around 1 hour and 20 minutes from Kochi and about 4 hours from Bangalore. For flights from other cities, you need to take a connecting flight via Colombo.

What is included in a Maldives family tour package?

The Maldives family tour packages include flights, resort stays, transfers, and a meal plan, either half-board or all-inclusive. Many packages also consist of kids' club access and basic water sports. Extras like excursions or spas are usually charged separately in USD.

What is NOT typically included?

A Maldives family package excludes alcohol and speciality dining. Motorised water sports like jet skiing and parasailing are also not included in the base package. Spa, scuba diving, water skiing, and photography are charged separately.

Is the Maldives expensive for family travel?

Yes, the Maldives is expensive for family travel compared to other Southeast Asian destinations like Bali or Phuket. Basic Maldives packages for a family of 4 start around ₹400,000 with flights and resort stays. If cost is your priority, a local Maafushi island trip costs ₹180,000 to ₹280,000 for a family of 4.

What should I pack for a Maldives family trip?

You should pack the following items for a family trip to the Maldives:

Reef-safe sunscreen, kid-fit life jacket, kid snorkel set, light cottons and a light sweater for AC, prescription medication with original labels, ORS, basic first-aid kit, beach toys, waterproof phone pouch, and child swim nappies, if needed.

Are Maldives resorts safe for kids?

Yes, the Maldives resorts are safe for kids. They are gated and provide inclusive environments with on-island doctors, supervised pools and lifeguard-monitored beach areas. Local islands still require parents to supervise near water at all times.

Can my family take kids under 2 to a Maldives resort?

Yes, infants are allowed at most Maldives resorts, such as Centara and Kuramathi. You can request cribs, high chairs, bath sets, and baby meals in advance. Infants stay free but need a passport, a visa on arrival, and an IMUGA form.

Can kids scuba dive in the Maldives?

The minimum age for PADI Open Water certification is 10 years old. However, younger kids from 8 years old can try programmes like the PADI Bubblemaker in shallow water or Discover Snuba sessions. Snorkelling is suitable for all age groups with adult supervision and kid-fit gear.

Which meal plan is best for a family traveling to the Maldives?

For families with kids, we highly recommend booking an All-Inclusive or Full-Board meal plan. Since resorts are located on private islands, you cannot simply step out to find a local restaurant, and buying food à la carte can quickly blow your budget. An all-inclusive plan covers all three meals, snacks, and beverages, allowing your kids to eat and drink freely without you worrying about the mounting bill.

What healthcare facilities are available on the islands for children?

Most registered mid-range and luxury resort islands in the Maldives have an in-house doctor or a trained medical nurse available 24/7 to handle minor injuries, fevers, or seasickness. For any major medical emergencies, resorts have speedboats or seaplanes on standby to transfer patients to the main hospitals in Malé. However, we strongly advise carrying a basic pediatric medical kit with your child's regular prescriptions, as specific brands may not be available on remote islands.

The all inclusive was marvelous in every sense , the food, the drinks, the quality, the true friendliness of the staff. They scheduled our transfers exactly as requested. The room was ready early and we had complementary breakfast and lunch on the arrival day. The speedboat comfortable and nice. The vegetation all around is lush and shady, the swiming pools are pleasant and relaxed. The smiling staff constantly bring towels and drinks. TGI diving club is really 5 STAR. This place is more on the quiet side. Mostly couples and very calm throughout. After sunset it gets even more silent, which we actually liked. Villas are modern, clean, and give proper privacy. No disturbance, no crowd feeling anywhere on the island. Food was decent, not extraordinary but good enough for the stay. Breakfast had enough options. Service was smooth. Staff were helpful but not over the top. If you’re expecting a lot of activities, this may feel slow. But if the idea is to just switch off and relax, it works well.

We stayed at Centara Mirage Lagoon Maldives and it turned out to be exactly the kind of holiday we needed. The resort has that family-friendly energy without losing the luxury feel. What stood out most was how easy everything felt once we arrived activities, meals, transfers, all well arranged so we could just settle in and enjoy. The lagoon villas were beautiful, but honestly the simple moments became the best ones watching the water change colors through the day, long breakfasts, and evenings by the beach. The staff were warm and attentive without being overbearing, which made the stay even more comfortable.

The luxury villas are very well designed and comfortable. The journey from Kolkata was very smooth and the airport pass made entry easy. The service was very professional and we felt very safe during our entire tropical holiday in the beautiful Maldives.
