What Makes Kashmir Package Prices Go Up or Down
Package prices for Kashmir trips frequently fluctuate. Travelers often face added expenses from high-demand local pony rides, hidden houseboat utility fees, and unplanned accommodation costs caused by weather-related transit disruptions.
Seasonal Cost: Kashmir is known for its spring and summer tulip season, which falls during April to June. From December to February, Gulmarg enters its peak winter season, attracting travellers to enjoy the snow-covered landscapes. Due to high demand during both these windows, hotel rates rise significantly. For budget travel, July to September is the most affordable window. October to November, during the autumn transition, also offers competitive hotel rates.
Accommodation: Your accommodation cost depends on the location of the property. Staying in prime locations like Gulmarg or central Pahalgam, or booking a heritage houseboat on Nigeen Lake, will cost much more. We recommend staying slightly outside the main towns and using Srinagar as a base camp for day trips, rather than overnight stays in the valleys.
Activity Cost: Basic Gondola Phase 1 tickets are included in the packages, but note if you go for Phase 2 Gondola tickets in Gulmarg, it will increase the overall cost. Similarly, longer pony rides or hiring local union cabs for internal travel in Pahalgam add to the total expense.

Best Places to Visit in Kashmir
Kashmir is the oldest honeymoon destination; it has the beauty of culture, snow-capped mountains, and heritage. Spots like Dal Lake and Gulmarg, you will get to see Betaab and Aru in Pahalgam. Srinagar sightseeing can be easily done in 1 to 2 days. With a Shikara ride on Dal Lake, half a day at Mughal Gardens, and a short Old City tour.

Nigeen Lake – Couples who want to spend some quiet, private time together prefer Nigeen Lake. It has less boat traffic and a calmer and quieter experience.
Top Things to Do in Kashmir Trip
Gulmarg Gondola: Phase 1 and Phase 2
Phase 1 distance for the gondola ride is around 3,050m. This remains constant even if there is slight change in weather conditions
Phase 2 is at a height from Kongdoori to Apharwat, but it is totally dependent on the weather conditions. If there is wind or a heavy snowfall alert, the activity gets shut down due to safety issues.
During the peak months it is difficult to book tickets on the same day; book online 10 to 30 days in advance.
Each month has its own activity, with different feelings and adventures. This depends on the traveller and what they want to experience and should be planned accordingly.
From December to February, skiing, snowboarding, and snowmobile rides are the main tourist attractions. These activities can be easily done by beginners, and guides are always there.
For summer sessions, May to June, it changes to meadow walks and horse or pony rides, and you can enjoy the views of lush greenery and wildflowers. During summer it is less about activities and more about connecting with nature.

Wazwan: The Traditional Feast
It's a chef's special Kashmiri multi-course meal known as wazwan. It is served on a copper plate with rice and multiple dishes like rogan josh, tabakh maaz, gushtaba, and yakhni. All these dishes are mutton-based. It is very rich in flavors and a heavy meal.
Vegetarian Options
Kashmiri Pandit offers authentic and pure vegetarian meals with a wide variety of foods.
Haak saag
Nadru yakhni, made of lotus stem in yogurt gravy
Aloo dum
Rajma Chawal
South Indian and Familiar Food

Kashmir Travel Essentials for Indian Travellers
As per June 2026 data, Kashmir remains safe for tourism for all the circuits like Srinagar, Gulmarg, and Pahalgam. On the 3rd of April, a weather alert was issued and was reported in The Times Of India, but it had no effect on travel restrictions.
The Srinagar and Gulmarg roads are open; you may find snow patches near the Tangmarg area. Maintain a safe speed.
Srinagar and Pahalgam roads have clear roads but with slight traffic during weekends.
Before starting the trip for Srinagar-Sonmarg, check the current day's status.
NH44 Jawahar Tunnel is under construction and repairing; delays might occur due to rain.
Zoji La Pass is currently open for two-way civilian and heavy motor vehicle traffic, connecting Kashmir and Ladakh.
Tourist areas are very safe, under constant supervision, and seeing record numbers of visitors, which shows that people are confident about travelling. Follow the rules, carry ID and check the weather every day.
Betaab, Aru, and Chandanwari Valleys
Tourist cabs don't have the permit to travel in these valleys. You need to take a local taxi or pony ride.
Betaab Valley is very photogenic and a quick stop place with river views.
Take time in Aru Valley to explore the place; take a short walk around the place without rushing for the next spot.
Chandanwari is the start point for the Amarnath trip. The terrain changes as you move further.
Amarnath Yatra Season Impact (Jul-Aug)
One of the most Indian pilgrimage-visited places is Amarnath Yatra. Every year during this time, more than a thousand yatris come. This region gets busier than usual during July and August.
Hotel prices are at their peak, with tight security at the checkpoints, especially near Chandanwari. This affects the overall travel time of the trip.
If you are planning during this month, start early and keep buffer time in hand.
Srinagar to Sonmarg and Beyond
Distance and Road – From Srinagar to Sonmarg, it is around 80 km, taking a travel time of around 3 hours. Don't take Google Maps as your only guide; take the route via the Srinagar-Leh Highway. If you cross Ganderbal after 10 AM, expect heavy traffic.
Checkpoints – In the 3-hour, 80 km drive, expect 2 to 3 checkpoints. Carry ID proof for fast check processing. You can’t avoid these checkpoints, especially during peak tourist season.
Altitude – From our past travellers we got reviews that few have faced health issues due to high altitudes. Sonmarg is 2740 meters above sea level. As you get closer to Thajiwas Glacier, you may feel like you're getting less oxygen. Don't worry; it is recommended to carry medicines, go slow, and drink more water to stay hydrated.
Continuing to Ladakh—Srinagar-Kargil-Leh Road
The road usually opens in May or early June and starts to close again in late October or November, depending on how much snow falls. The only way to get to Leh from here is by plane.
Sonmarg is the last easy stop before the altitude starts to rise quickly. Additionally, places like Zoji La need to be planned carefully because of traffic and the weather.
Consider this route if the trip is of 8 to 9 days. This helps in acclimatisation in Kashmir for 3 to 4 days rather than going directly to Leh.

Thrillophilia Traveller Note: Gaurav Joshi, a traveller from Mumbai who booked the Kashmir Holidays | Houseboat Experience and Beyond package, said, “We travelled in April, and the tulips at Indira Gandhi Tulip Garden were in full bloom—honestly, it didn’t feel real with snow peaks in the background." The Dal Lake houseboat stay was something completely different from a regular hotel. Arjun from Thrillophilia had suggested April specifically for the tulip season, and that advice really worked out. Airport transfers in Srinagar were smooth throughout. I’d definitely recommend Thrillophilia to friends.”

The trip was super good. I had a group trip to ladakh via manali. Firstly, trillophilla got us a thoughful combination of hotels/homestays/camps/cottages. And all of them were of good quality. The driver and local toor companies hired by trillophilla were great . The travel vehicle was in great condition. My only complain was volvo. They could have got us a better volvo from dehli to manali. Rest, well planned itenary, good quality food, nice places to stay, great travel vehicle and guide. It really helped to make my ladakh trip hassle free and a meomerable one.
We had a wonderful experience during this trip. Our travel experience was smooth and good. Travel guide assigned to us was Dawood, who treated us exceptionally well. Dawood was amazing and professional in his conduct and he made our trip in Kashmir more pleasant.
The tulip garden, shikara ride, Gulmarg, every moment felt magical. Our coordinator had added small personal touches like flower arrangements in the houseboat room. That level of care made the trip special. Highly recommend for couples.
Ladakh kaise describe karein, words kam pad jaate hain. Nubra Valley mein ek taraf barfeelay pahaad aur doosri taraf ret. Pangong ke rang subah subah dekhne ke baad photography ka matlab samajh aaya. Thrillophilia ki team ne sabkuch plan kiya tha, hume bas enjoy karna tha.
Gulmarg = crazy views.
Rest trip also good.
Driver Yaseen was solid guy.
Little waiting at gondola but expected.
Overall sorted.
Thrillophilia team 5 out of 5
We took our elderly parents to Kashmir for the first time and it planned it perfectly for senior travellers. Comfortable vehicles, no rushed stops, ground floor room in Srinagar. My father sat on the houseboat balcony watching the mountains for an hour without saying a word. Some trips stay with you. This is one of them.
The overall trip felt easy because things were already well arranged. We didn’t have to keep checking plans or worry about local coordination. The support during the journey was reliable, which made it easier to just enjoy the place. Thank you Rohan and Aditi from the Thrillophilia team and our local driver Rizwan.
