Here are all your options for travelling to Kashmir:

  • Approximate Flight Fare: INR 8,000-12,000 per person

Best Time to Visit Kashmir from Delhi

Your time of departure for a Kashmir trip from Delhi decides your entire trip experience. Here is a guide for you to better understand Kashmir’s seasons:

April to June

With a temperature of 8°C to 30°C, this window is perfect for comfortably covering Srinagar. Cool mornings and warm afternoons with great visibility make this the best window for outdoor-heavy itineraries. The water conditions are also stable for shikara rides and overnight houseboat stays. Due to the high traveller demand of this season, prices are all inflated by 20-30%.

  • Highlights: Tulip blooms at Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden (March-April), gardens in full bloom
  • Festivals: Eid al-Fitr, Tulip Festival (Late March-Early April)
  • Best for: First-timers, photographers, family trips to Kashmir, and outdoor-heavy itineraries
  • Don’t forget to pack: Light woollens, sunglasses, comfortable walking shoes

July to September

If you don’t mind the occasional rain, this is a great window for a Srinagar trip with a temperature of 15°C to 32°C. With no inflated prices, this offers a good travelling season for itineraries balanced with both indoor and outdoor activities. However, this season also poses some landslide risks on highways, especially towards Pahalgam and Sonamarg. Make sure to get updates before departing there.

  • Highlights: Deep green valleys, apple orchards at their peak, fewer crowds
  • Festivals: Eid al-Adha, local Sufi shrine gatherings
  • Best for: Budget-conscious travellers, couples, slow-paced travellers, balanced itineraries
  • Don’t forget to pack: Light cottons, a rain jacket, waterproof shoes and socks, basic medicines for humidity

October to November

This is another one of Srinagar’s peak seasons with a temperature of 5°C to 25°C. The weather is dry and crisp, gradually getting cooler by the day. With clear skies, this window is great for outdoor sightseeing, especially because of the fewer crowds, making it perfect for travellers who like slow-paced, quiet trips.

  • Highlights: Chinar trees across Srinagar turn into golden-red shades, best photography window, misty Dal Lake mornings, good deals on hotel pricings
  • Festivals: Diwali, Navratri
  • Best for: Photographers, honeymooners seeking privacy, slow-paced travellers seeking to avoid the crowds
  • Don’t forget to pack: Light jackets, closed-toe shoes, medium woollens

December to February

If you want a complete snow experience, this is the perfect time to travel to Srinagar, as it experiences a temperature of -2°C to 12°C. The weather is cold, and the nights are often freezing with the chances of snowfall. On heavy snowfall days, visibility is minimal, along with limited mobility, with increased risks of landslides and road blockages.

  • Highlights: Snow-covered Srinagar and its surroundings, frozen Dal Lake edges, Gulmarg access for skiing, and a 20-30% discount on hotel pricing due to low traveller demand
  • Festivals: Christmas, New Year, local winter events
  • Best for: Snow experience seekers, budget-conscious travellers (apart from festive windows)
  • Don’t forget to pack: Heavy woollens, gloves, caps, woollen socks, heavy scarves, water-resistant boots and socks, moisturiser and lip balm

Best Places to Visit on a Kashmir Trip from Delhi

Here are the best places to visit on a Kashmir trip from Delhi:

Srinagar: The Summer Capital Of Kashmir

Srinagar is the base for most Kashmir tours from Delhi. The evening shikara rides on Dal Lake, exploring the famous Mughal Gardens, and the silence let you experience an environment which is directly in contrast to Delhi’s traffic and noise.

Our expert team recommends making your shikara ride a little less common. In addition to the main lake route, ask your boatman to take you through the inner channels. We promise you, the visuals are worth it.

Gulmarg: The Glorious Slopes of Kashmir

Gulmarg is one of those places that’re beautiful no matter what time you visit. But most travellers choose winter to see the snow-covered slopes of Gulmarg. From the famous gondola ride, the snow below catches the winter sun in a way that makes for most trip highlights.

Our team recommends not taking pony rides where not necessary. They can sometimes be overpriced and rushed, especially if you’re visiting during the peak season. If you can, walk along the meadows to actually experience the place.

Pahalgam: The Starting Point of Betaab Valley

Pahalgam is best suited for all nature lovers. The treks through Aru Valley and Betaab Valley let you experience some of the most scenic landscapes of Kashmir. Its liveliness doesn’t take away from its calm nature and is a common inclusion in most Kashmir packages from Delhi.

Baisaran, a scenic meadow located 5 kilometres from Pahalgam at an altitude of 8,000 feet, is famously known as ‘Mini Switzerland’. Make sure you visit it as early as you can because the late-morning crowd can be overwhelming.

Yusmarg: The Hikers’ Choice

Yusmarg is surrounded by snow-capped mountains. Its trails and scenery attract thousands of hiking-loving travellers each year. Even if you don’t seek a hiking-focused trip, Yusmarg works well as a picnic spot and is recommended by our destination experts for multiple family trips to Kashmir. Moreover, as it’s not as crowded as Pahalgam, travellers seeking slow-paced and quiet environments can also explore this.

Many treat Yusmarg as a quick stop. If you’re overwhelmed by the crowds in Pahalgam or Gulmarg, slow down in Yusmarg. Reach early and just unwind for a few hours.

Sonamarg: The Heart of Kashmir

This is the home of the Thajiwas Glacier. A glacier, formed by Himalayan glacial systems, is surrounded by pine forests, meadows and mountains. Some popular treks, like the Vishansar Trek and Krishansar Trek, start from Sonamarg. Keep in mind that weather in this region can change quickly, so it is always wise to carry an extra layer or two in case the temperature drops unexpectedly.

Our previous travellers, who booked New Delhi to Kashmir holiday packages, suggest not relying entirely on digital payments in Sonmarg. Make sure you carry enough cash because the network isn’t always stable.

Best Experiences to Enjoy on a Kashmir Trip from Delhi

These are the best things to do on a Kashmir tour from Delhi:

Dal Lake and Shikara Experience

This is one of the main attractions of most Srinagar tours and a common inclusion in most Kashmir honeymoon packages. Riding a traditional Kashmiri boat while it cuts through the clear water, reflecting the golden sunlight, makes for one of the most memorable experiences of a Kashmir trip from Delhi.

  • Best Time to Do It: 5:30 am - 7:30 am in the morning for a quiet, peaceful experience. 5-7 pm for sunset’s golden light, but expect higher pricing and crowds.
  • Pricing: INR 700-1,500+ depending on duration, coverage, and season

Houseboat Stays

If you want to have slow-day experiences and want to focus on leisurely activities, a houseboat stay is perfect for you. Thrillophilia always arranges for houseboats that are verified for their quality and registered as a legitimate property to ensure you have a safe and comfortable stay.

  • Pricing: Budget options range from INR 1,000 to INR 5,000 per night and are often shared, while mid-range stays will cost you INR 4,000-10,000. Luxury stays range from INR 10,000 and can go up to INR 25,000.

Gulmarg’s Gondola Ride

The gondola experience is divided into three phases. It begins with the first phase from Gulmarg to Kongdoori, then continues to Aparwat Peak in the second phase. The third and final phase is a chairlift that takes travellers to Mary’s Shoulders, one of the area’s most popular skiing spots.

  • Pricing: INR 740-810 for Phase 1 and INR 950-1010 for Phase 2. To avoid the queues, we recommend booking tickets in advance from JKTDC.

Mughal Gardens

Kashmir’s Mughal Gardens zone is home to multiple gardens built during the Mughal Empire over vast areas. Visiting the Garden Circuit on a solo or group tour to Kashmir is one of the main attractions of any Kashmir trip with its intricate architecture, surrounding scenery, and historical significance.

  • Highlights: Pari Mahal, Chashme Shahi, Nishat Bagh, and Shalimar Bagh
  • Pricing: An average of INR 30 per person

Skiing in Gulmarg

For all adventure seekers, Gulmarg is Asia’s biggest skiing resort outside of Himachal's resorts. The Apharwat Peak offers skiing runs from a height of 1,400 m, providing guided options for both beginners and advanced skiers.

  • Best Time to Visit: December to March
  • Pricing: Skiing rentals start at INR 1,500 per day and go up to INR 3,000 with various inclusions and guides.

Travel Updates and Safety Advisory for Kashmir Trips from Delhi

Kashmir trip packages from Delhi by Thrillophilia are all planned, keeping in mind every issue that can possibly arise. Buffer time for delays and on-ground support via locally coordinated experts is a compulsory part of every Kashmir tour we plan. Keeping your safety and comfort in mind, you are always briefed with our alternate plans for any issues before departure so that you don’t face any difficulty adjusting to changes.

Here is everything to keep in mind for your upcoming Kashmir tour from Delhi with Thrillophilia:

  • Security presence has increased in tourist areas with heavily marked area guidances for travellers. Checkpoints, baggage screening, ID checks, and occasional convoy restrictions are normal during a Kashmir trip.
  • The Jammu-Srinagar Highway (NH-44) is the most disruption-prone road in Kashmir. Make sure you have enough buffer time planned into your itinerary to avoid any delays or rushed experiences. Winter and monsoon windows often see temporary closings.
  • Don’t underestimate the cold of Gulmarg and Sonamarg in the winter months. Make sure to carry heavy thermals, water-resistant socks and gloves, and heavy and waterproof shoes. Flights can be delayed during this time with temporary gondola and snow area closures.
  • Carry your original government IDs, along with hotel booking documents, just in case you’re asked for them at checkpoints.
  • Be mindful of your belongings and surroundings and avoid being in dark, isolated places late at night.

Thrillophilia’s Kashmir tour packages from Delhi are planned with safety considerations like local guides, dedicated vehicles, and a list of emergency contacts shared with you pre-departure to ensure you feel safe and supported throughout your trip duration in Kashmir.

Ishwar Sharma, who booked the Kashmir Retreat | Romantic Escape to Doodhpathri shared how Thrillophilia made the trip feel easy and hassle-free, saying, “The overall trip felt easy because things were already well arranged. We didn’t have to keep checking plans or worry about local coordination. The support during the journey was reliable, which made it easier to just enjoy the place. We took our elderly parents to Kashmir for the first time and it planned it perfectly for senior travellers. Comfortable vehicles, no rushed stops, ground floor room in Srinagar. My father sat on the houseboat balcony watching the mountains for an hour without saying a word. Some trips stay with you. This is one of them.

Our Kashmir trip with Thrillophilia was beautifully arranged. We are a family of 2 adults and 2 kids and the team planned it keeping everyone in mind. The houseboat experience on Dal Lake was something the children still talk about the shikara vendors coming alongside in the morning, the Kashmiri woodwork inside, the mountain views from the balcony. Gulmarg and Pahalgam were equally well covered. Our driver was excellent. Thank you to the Thrillophilia team.

Overland from Kashmir to Ladakh is one of the greatest road journeys you can do in India. Dal Lake in Srinagar to Pangong Tso in Ladakh - the transformation across just a few days is staggering. Sonamarg, Zoji La pass and the Drass valley were all breathtaking in completely different ways. Our driver was experienced and calm on the mountain roads which made a huge difference to the experience. Do this trip at least once - no photograph or description will fully prepare you for what you'll see.

Had a good Kashmir trip with Thrillophilia. Journey was smooth and the team was supportive throughout. The houseboat on Dal Lake and the shikara ride were wonderful. One suggestion would be that the briefing before departure could be more detailed, we had a few questions that only got answered on the ground. But other than that the experience was very good and the driver assigned to us was excellent on the mountain roads.

April in Kashmir turned out to be the best timing decision we made. The Indira Gandhi Tulip Garden was in full bloom, easily 20 lakh tulips across the terraced slopes with the Zabarwan Range as the backdrop. We took a shikara at 6am when the Dal Lake was perfectly still and reflected the surrounding mountains. Pahalgam meadows were bright green after winter and the Betaab Valley was uncrowded at that time of year. Our houseboat host arranged a Wazwan dinner on the last evening that we are still talking about. The Thrillophilia coordinator had suggested April specifically for the tulip season and it was exactly right. Zero complaints.

Kashmir Tours From delhi FAQs

Is it safe to visit Kashmir from India in 2026-2027?

It is safe if you stick within tourist-safe zones. There are very clear signs in all regions that specify the tourist-safe routes. On top of that, tourist zones remain actively monitored, though travellers should always check current advisories.

Are Thrillophilia's Kashmir packages suitable for senior citizens?

For senior citizens, we’d recommend choosing a Jammu and Kashmir package from Delhi with a slower pace. When informed, we plan age-sensitive itineraries for seniors. Private cars, less adventurous routes and ground-floor accommodations are some of the elements we include for a senior traveller.

Should you live on a houseboat on my Kashmir trip if you have young children?

As memorable as they are for your experience, houseboats are unsuitable for very young children. With open water all around you, children would need proper supervision at all times. Make sure to check it with your houseboat operator beforehand.

Is network/connectivity an issue for Kashmir trips?

Most hotels have WiFi, so connectivity is not an issue. Post-paid SIMs tend to perform better than pre-paid ones, according to our Kashmir experts. However, network reception is unstable in deeper regions of Pahalgam and Sonamarg extensions from Srinagar.

When is the best time to visit Srinagar?

April to June is the peak traveller season for springtime blooms and perfect weather for sightseeing. If you want to watch the autumn foliage, October-November is the best window for it. But if your priority is avoiding the peak pricing, July-September is the perfect time to visit.

Are ATMs and digital payments reliable in Kashmir?

With relatively strong network connectivity, UPI works easily in most traveller sites, along with the availability of multiple ATMs in areas like Srinagar. We recommend carrying cash up to INR 10,000 for remote areas or small shops.

How long should a Shikara ride be?

The ideal duration is 1-2 hours, which covers the inner canals, floating markets, and the scenic landscapes of Dal Lake at a comfortable pace. Anything less than that is rushed, and anything more than 2 hours is dragged out.

Where should you stay in Srinagar?

If you want easy access to the Mughal Gardens and want the best views of the lakes, stay near Dal Lake. For quieter and more private stays with fewer crowds, Nigeen Lake is the best option. If you’re on a budget and want easy access to transport hubs and the Old City circuit, Lal Chowk is the best area to stay in. Thrillophilia’s Kashmir package from Delhi packages include accommodations that are already optimised with these insights.

What should be your budget for a trip to Srinagar?

For a 5-day budget trip including flights, you would need INR 18,000-30,000 per person, while mid-range tier expenses are around INR 30,000-55,000. For premium tiers, you would need INR 60,000+ per person.

Is monsoon travel risky in Kashmir?

July-September, the peak monsoon window, sees short bursts of rain rather than continuous downpours. This leads to occasional roadblocks, causing traffic and delays in travel. If your itinerary is planned ahead with enough buffer time, you will be fine
