Why Do Mumbaikers Love Kerala?
A Maximum 2-Hour Flight Window to Kerala: Air India, Vistara, IndiGo, and SpiceJet have daily direct flights from CSIA to Kochi (COK), Thiruvananthapuram (TRV), and Calicut/Kozhikode (CCJ). The flight duration is approximately 1 hour 45 minutes to 2 hours. Return fares usually range between INR 4,500 and INR 14,000, which often makes this trip more affordable than many weekend flights to Goa or the Andaman Islands.
No Visa or Passport Hassle: We know Mumbaikers love travelling with family. With Kerala, there is no need to manage visa logistics or currency conversion. UPI is widely accepted, mobile networks work seamlessly, and both Hindi and English are commonly spoken and understood across major tourist areas.
Cheaper Than Many Other Similar Holiday Destinations: Shared houseboats in Kerala cost between INR 6,000 and INR 12,000 per night, while 3-star hotel stays range from INR 2,500 to INR 5,000 per night. Local public transportation within towns usually costs INR 50 to INR 200, depending on the route. Overall, these costs often make Kerala more affordable than many comparable holiday destinations, especially during peak travel seasons.
Closest Multi-terrain Place to Mumbai: Kerala is one of Mumbai’s most accessible tourist destinations. It offers a complete change of scenery from the familiar pace of Bandra traffic. Jungle, beaches, backwaters, and hill stations—it offers something suited to every Mumbaiker.
Thrillophilia Traveller Note: Rahul Mehta, a traveller from Mumbai who booked the Best of Kerala tour package, said, “A wonderful travel experience! Best Time to Visit Kerala from Mumbai
October–November:
With temperatures ranging between 24 and 32°C, this is Kerala’s post-monsoon travel window, known for relatively low rainfall, clearer skies, and fresh greenery across the state. These conditions work especially well for houseboat cruises, waterfall visits, and wildlife experiences in Thekkady. This period also aligns well with Mumbai travellers’ Diwali holiday schedules.
Challenges: There can still be occasional flooding in Alleppey canal areas, and Diwali week usually sees higher demand for flights to Kochi.
December–January:
This is Kerala’s peak winter travel season, with temperatures typically between 20 and 28°C, making it one of the most comfortable periods for sightseeing and outdoor activities. Fort Kochi sees festive Christmas activity during this period, while Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary attracts migratory birds such as herons and other seasonal waterbirds.
Challenges: Mumbai–Kochi airfares usually rise during this period, houseboats often get booked 4–6 weeks in advance, and mornings in Munnar can be misty with reduced visibility.
February–March:
With temperatures between 22 and 30°C, the weather remains mild, dry, and comfortable for travel. This period suits travellers looking for a slower-paced Kerala experience and is also favourable for Wayanad trekking and backwater stays. Munnar’s landscapes also appear especially scenic during this time.
Challenges: Flight prices are usually moderate, but popular routes and premium stays may still require early booking during weekends.
April–May:
This is Kerala’s pre-monsoon season, with temperatures usually ranging between 28 and 36°C and noticeable humidity in lowland regions. It remains a preferred period for Mumbai families travelling during school summer holidays, while hill destinations such as Munnar and Wayanad offer relatively cooler conditions. Early morning houseboat departures are usually more comfortable during this season.
Challenges: Kovalam and Varkala often experience rougher sea conditions, especially by May, while midday humidity in Alleppey can feel intense for outdoor sightseeing.
June–September:
This is Kerala’s main monsoon season, with temperatures generally between 25 and 30°C and regular rainfall across most regions. Indoor attractions such as museums in Kochi and selected heritage sites remain suitable during this period, while rainfall enhances Thekkady’s spice plantations and Wayanad’s waterfalls.
Challenges: Outdoor trekking is often restricted for safety, houseboat schedules may be reduced depending on rainfall intensity, and swimming activity is usually restricted at Kovalam and Varkala beaches.

God's Own Country it is! Varkala cliff beach views are completely different from any beach experience I had before. Munnar tea estates in the morning mist were just breathtaking and peaceful. Ekdum well-planned itinerary covering so much variety within one state. Family absolutely loved every day. Must do at least once!
A wonderful travel experience! The package was thoughtfully designed, covering all major attractions while still giving us time to relax. The hotels, transport, and activities were all arranged perfectly. Kerala’s natural beauty combined with such seamless planning made this trip truly memorable. Highly recommended for anyone planning a Kerala vacation!
Our honeymoon was made extra special with a private candle-light dinner organized on the beach in Kovalam. Thrillophilia’s coordination was tight and we didn’t face any issues with the hotel check-ins or the transport. Thanks to Ajay for the great recommendations on where to shop for authentic silk sarees in Kochi. The logistics were so well-planned that we could just focus on enjoying our time together. It was a premium experience from start to finish.
The tea museum in Munnar was very informative and the kids really enjoyed the live chocolate-making session afterwards. Our driver was a thorough professional who knew all the shortcuts to avoid traffic and get us to the viewpoints on time. It was a very smooth experience from the airport pickup to the final drop-off. We particularly loved the evening martial arts show in Thekkady, which was very high energy and culturally rich.
Traveling from the Mumbai humidity to the Munnar chill was a total dream come true for us. Sagla arrangement khup changla hota, especially the tea garden bungalow which felt so private and luxurious. Amit handled our flight bookings and ground transfers smoothly, so we didn't have to worry about a thing. The winding roads of Kerala are beautiful, and our driver was very experienced. It was the perfect break from the fast-paced life of Mumbai.
Spent a lot of time just relaxing by the pool at our Munnar resort, which had a breathtaking view of the valley. The itinerary wasn't rushed at all, which allowed us to actually enjoy the places rather than just ticking them off a list. Good job by the support team for keeping us updated via WhatsApp throughout the trip. The houseboat stay was the icing on the cake, providing a very unique and peaceful experience.
We took the flight from Mumbai and the pickup at Kochi airport was right on time with a smiling driver waiting for us. The Varkala cliff views are way better than what you see in photos; it’s a must-visit for beach lovers. Deepak was a great help throughout the booking, explaining the itinerary clearly and helping with hotel upgrades. Even though it was a busy season, all our entries and tours were pre-arranged, saving us a lot of time.
Great escape from the Dadar crowds! The backwater cruise in Alleppey was so silent and relaxing that it felt like another world entirely. The food provided on the boat was spicy and delicious, matching our Mumbai taste buds perfectly. We spent hours just watching the villages pass by from the deck. Thrillophilia’s support group was very responsive whenever we had questions about local markets. Truly a paisa vasool experience for any Mumbaikar looking for peace.
Overall, the trip was enjoyable with a very polite and safe driver who made the travel experience smooth. Most hotels offered good service, but several had maintenance issues such as small rooms, non-working telecom, TV limitations, weak WiFi, and delays in restaurant service. Houseboat food and service were good but rooms were cramped and lacked hot water. Despite a few stay-related inconveniences, the overall experience was decent.
