What Makes Kerala Package Prices Go Up or Down
The cost of Kerala tour packages from Hyderabad can vary even within the same travel season. Here are the key factors that influence pricing:
Travel Season: Package prices are highest between October and March, when Kerala experiences pleasant weather across hill stations, beaches, and backwaters. Prices also rise during Christmas, New Year, and Onam due to increased demand.
Flight Costs: Airfare is often one of the biggest variables in your overall trip cost. Direct flights from Hyderabad typically offer the best convenience, but fares can increase significantly during peak travel periods and long weekends.
Hotel Category: Premium resorts, heritage properties, beachfront stays, and luxury wellness retreats generally cost more than standard hotels. The choice of accommodation has a major impact on package pricing.
Houseboat Experiences: An overnight stay on a private Alleppey houseboat is usually one of the most premium elements of a Kerala itinerary. Day cruises are generally more affordable than overnight houseboat stays.
Package Duration: Longer itineraries covering destinations such as Munnar, Thekkady, Alleppey, Kovalam, Varkala, and Wayanad naturally cost more than shorter 4 to 5-day trips focused on Kerala's core highlights.
Included Experiences: Packages that include activities such as Periyar boat safaris, Kathakali performances, Ayurvedic therapies, private cruises, or guided sightseeing tours are typically priced higher than standard sightseeing packages.
Thrillophilia Insight: Booking your Kerala holiday 4–6 weeks in advance often helps secure better rates on flights, hotels, and houseboat stays while providing more accommodation choices.
How to Reach Kerala from Hyderabad
There are three main ways to travel from Hyderabad to Kerala, by flight, train, or road. Flights are the fastest option, while trains and buses are suitable for travellers looking for a more economical journey.
By Flight
Flights are the easiest way to reach Kerala from Hyderabad. Direct flights are available from Rajiv Gandhi International Airport to Kochi, Trivandrum, and Calicut.
Kochi (Cochin International Airport): Best for Munnar, Alleppey, Thekkady, and Kochi.
Trivandrum International Airport: Convenient for Kovalam, Poovar, and other South Kerala destinations.
Calicut International Airport: Suitable for Wayanad, Kozhikode, and North Kerala.
The flight takes about 1 hour 40 minutes, and airlines such as IndiGo, Air India, and Akasa Air operate multiple daily services. One-way fares generally start from INR 6,000 and can go up to INR 12,000 during busy travel periods.
By Train
Travelling by train is a good option for those who prefer a lower-cost journey. The Sabari Express (17230) is one of the regular trains connecting Hyderabad with Ernakulam in Kerala. There are also a few weekly and special trains on this route.
The journey usually takes 25–28 hours, depending on the train. Sleeper class tickets cost around INR 600–800, while AC tickets can range from INR 1,800 to INR 4,000.
By Road
Kerala is around 1,124 km from Hyderabad and can be reached via NH44 and NH544. Driving time is roughly 19–20 hours, depending on traffic and stopovers.
Travellers can choose self-drive trips, private cabs, or overnight buses. KSRTC and private operators run regular sleeper and Volvo services between Hyderabad and major cities in Kerala. Bus fares usually range between INR 2,000 and INR 3,500.
Best Time to Visit Kerala from Hyderabad
Kerala can be visited throughout the year, but the ideal time for your trip depends on the weather, budget, and activities you prefer. Travellers from Hyderabad can choose between three main seasons, each offering a different experience.
Peak Season (October–March)
This is the best time to plan a Kerala trip from Hyderabad. The weather is pleasant across beaches, backwaters, wildlife parks, and hill stations, making it ideal for sightseeing and outdoor activities. Temperatures generally range from 22°C to 32°C, while destinations such as Munnar can experience cooler nights between 12°C and 18°C.
The season also coincides with major celebrations, including the Christmas and New Year festivities in Kochi, creating a lively atmosphere for visitors. Because this is the busiest travel period, flights and hotels often fill up quickly. Booking 3–4 months in advance is recommended to secure better rates and availability.
Shoulder Season (April–June)
Travellers looking for lower prices can consider visiting Kerala during the shoulder season. Temperatures are usually between 30°C and 35°C, with higher humidity levels, especially in coastal areas. While the weather can feel warm during the day, popular attractions remain accessible.
This period is known for cultural events such as Vishu (April 14–15) and Thrissur Pooram (April–May), one of Kerala’s most famous temple festivals. Travel costs are typically 20–30% lower than during the peak season, making it a good choice for budget-conscious travellers.
Monsoon and Ayurvedic Season (July–September)
Kerala receives heavy and consistent monsoon rainfall during these months, often more intense than what travellers from Hyderabad may be accustomed to. Rain can occasionally affect outdoor sightseeing and adventure activities, but it also transforms the state into a lush green landscape.
This season is widely regarded as the best time for Ayurvedic therapies and wellness retreats, and many resorts offer attractive discounts on treatment packages. Visitors can also witness unique events such as the Nehru Trophy Boat Race in August. With lower hotel rates and fewer crowds, this is an excellent option for wellness seekers and budget travellers.
Best Places to Visit in Kerala from Hyderabad
Kerala offers a mix of hill stations, wildlife reserves, backwaters, and beaches. These destinations are among the most popular stops on Kerala itineraries and are regularly recommended by tourism authorities, local guides, and experienced travellers.
Kochi – Historic Gateway to Kerala
Kochi is the main entry point for most travellers visiting Kerala from Hyderabad. Known for its colonial history and coastal charm, the city is home to popular attractions such as Fort Kochi, Chinese Fishing Nets, Mattancherry Palace, and the Paradesi Synagogue. Visitors can also explore the lively Jew Town area and enjoy cultural experiences like Kathakali and Kalaripayattu performances.
The city is usually covered in one day or as an overnight stop before travelling to Munnar, Thekkady, or Alleppey. Its mix of heritage sites, waterfront views, local markets, and cultural shows makes it a worthwhile addition to any Kerala itinerary.
Munnar – Tea Gardens and Mountain Views
Located about 4.5 hours from Kochi, Munnar is one of Kerala's most famous hill stations. Known for its tea plantations, cool weather, and scenic viewpoints, it is a favourite among couples, families, and nature lovers.
Some of the top attractions include Eravikulam National Park, home to the endangered Nilgiri Tahr, Mattupetty Dam, and Anamudi Peak, the highest peak in South India. The region remains cooler than most parts of Kerala throughout the year, making it a refreshing escape from Hyderabad's heat.
Thekkady – Wildlife and Spice Plantations
Around 3 hours from Munnar, Thekkady is known for Periyar National Park and its spice-growing region. Visitors come here for wildlife experiences, nature activities, and plantation tours.
The area is famous for boat safaris on Periyar Lake, where sightings of elephants, deer, wild boar, and birds are common. Spice plantations around Kumily offer guided walks that introduce visitors to crops such as cardamom, pepper, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
Alleppey (Alappuzha) – Kerala’s Backwater Capital
Alleppey is one of the most visited destinations in Kerala and is best known for its peaceful backwaters and traditional houseboats.
An overnight stay on a kettuvallam houseboat is the highlight here, allowing travellers to cruise through canals, villages, and Vembanad Lake. Apart from the backwaters, visitors can also explore Alleppey Beach and the historic Alleppey Lighthouse.
The backwater experience remains one of the biggest highlights for visitors to Kerala. Reflecting this, Samkit Choksi from Ahmedabad, who booked the Kerala Family Delight with FREE Tickets to Napier Museum in April 2026, rated his trip 5.0/5 and shared, "The houseboat experience in Alleppey was the highlight. Hotels were neat and the driver was cooperative throughout. Would book again."
Kovalam and Varkala – Kerala’s Popular Beach Destinations
Kovalam, located near Thiruvananthapuram, is known for Lighthouse Beach, calm waters, and seaside cafes. Varkala offers a different experience, with its distinctive cliff-lined coastline overlooking the Arabian Sea, beachside cafés, and beautiful sunset views.
The region is extremely popular among families looking for a relaxing coastal getaway. Reflecting this, Rajesh Kumar from Hyderabad, who booked the Best Kerala Family Tour | FREE Bird Sanctuary Visit in December 2025, rated his experience 5.0/5 and shared, "We loved the beach resort in Kovalam; it was the perfect break from our busy lives in Hyderabad."
Nearby Poovar Island combines backwaters and beaches, making it a popular choice for a peaceful getaway.
Wayanad – Forests, Waterfalls, and Nature
Situated in North Kerala, Wayanad is known for its forests, wildlife, waterfalls, and trekking trails. It is usually easier to reach through Calicut International Airport rather than Kochi.
Popular attractions include Edakkal Caves, Chembra Peak, Kuruva Island, and Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary. The destination is ideal for travellers who enjoy nature, outdoor activities, and quieter surroundings.

Practical Tips for Hyderabad Travellers Visiting Kerala
A little planning can make your Kerala trip smoother and more enjoyable, especially if you're visiting multiple destinations.
Getting Around Kerala: For routes such as Munnar–Thekkady–Alleppey, hiring a private car with a driver is often the most convenient option. It reduces travel fatigue and is particularly helpful on winding hill roads.
Use Ferries in Kochi: Local ferries connect Ernakulam, Mattancherry, and Fort Kochi. They are quick, affordable, and often faster than travelling by road for short distances.
Public Transport: Kerala's KSRTC buses connect most tourist destinations and are a budget-friendly option. However, journeys can be longer compared to private transport, making them more suitable for travellers with flexible schedules.
Language: Malayalam is the official language of Kerala, but English is widely spoken in tourist areas, hotels, restaurants, and by most guides and drivers. Signboards are commonly displayed in both Malayalam and English.
Food and Cuisine: Kerala's cuisine is known for its use of rice, coconut, spices, and seafood. Popular dishes include appam, fish curry, puttu, Kerala parotta, and Sadhya. Travellers from Hyderabad may find Kerala food less spicy but rich in flavour and aroma.
Payments and Essentials: UPI payments, cards, and digital wallets are widely accepted in cities and tourist destinations. However, carrying some cash is useful when visiting small villages, local markets, or roadside eateries. Essential items and medicines are easily available across the state.
