Green Lake Trek Itinerary

Day 1
Day 1: Drive from Bagdogra Airport to Gangtok (1,650m) (5-6 Hours)
  • Day Highlights: Arrival in Sikkim, Rangpo
  • Day Details: Your journey towards the scenic Sikkim begins from the Bagdogra Airport, New Jalpaiguri Railway station or Bhadrapur Airport in Nepal. Arriving at the destination, take a scenic drive to Gangtok; on the way, complete the entry formalities in Rangpo as entering Sikkim requires permission from the authorities. By the time, the formalities get over, you can relish tea and snacks. Arriving in Sikkim, check-in into a local hotel and retire for the day.
Day 2
Day 02: Drive from Gangtok to Lachen (2,700m) (5-6 Hours)
  • Day Highlights: Tashi View Point, Phodong Monastery, Kabi Longstok, Mangan, Chungthang
  • Day Details: Today’s drive will take you from Gangtok to Lachen, a small town in North Sikkim and a popular halt for trekkers who want to explore the soul of this region. The journey will take you through various points of interest such as the Tashi View Point, Phodong Monastery, Kabi Longstok, Mangan and Chungthang with a lunch break at Mangan. You are expected to reach Lachen by evening and stay in a hotel for the night.
Day 3
Day 03: Drive from Lachen to Zema (20 Minutes), Trek from Zema to Talem (3,240m)
  • Day Highlights: 5-6 Hours Trek, Zemu River, Challenging Terrains
  • Day Details: Put on your trekking shoes and get ready for the real walk that begins today from Zema which is a 20 minutes drive from Lachen. It will be a slow walk as you can expect boulders and rhododendron thickets on the way that leads to Zemu River. Once you successfully complete the climb through forest to reach Talem, you can have lunch and acclimatize yourself with the weather. Take enough time to explore the region and spend the night among nature in camping tent.
Day 4
Day 04: Trek from Talem to Jakthang (3,300m)
  • Day Highlights: 4-5 Hours Trek, Rhododendrons
  • Day Details: Today’s trek will be a fairly easy walk that you can cover within 4 to 5 hours. The trek will be fascinated by more twenty exotic varieties of colourful rhododendrons; soak yourself into the vibrant colours of nature and reach the Jakthang campsite, where you will spend overnight in tents.
Day 5
Day 05: Trek from Jakthang to Yabuk (3,850m)
  • Day Highlights: 4-5 Hours Trek, Zemu Glacier
  • Day Details: Start your day from Jakthang and make your way towards Yabuk through the now familiar rhododendron forests and streams. It is a well-defined trail that takes you to the snout of Zemu Glacier. Trekking further through several ascends and descends, reach the Yabuk campsite and get freshened up with a pleasant excursion within the surroundings of the camp; overnight stay in the camp.
Day 6
Day 06: Trek from Yabuk to Rest Camp (4,500m)
  • Day Highlights: 5-6 Hours Trek, Mt Siniolchu, Mt Simvo
  • Day Details: Brace yourself for a difficult trek through rough pebbles and boulders to the Rest Camp. Though the high altitudes make the trek a bit challenging, the spectacular views of peaks such as that of Mt Siniolchu and Simvo makes it worth the challenges! Upon reaching the Rest Camp, retire for the day and settle down in the camping tents.
Day 7
Day 07: Trek from Rest Camp to Green Lake (5,050m)
  • Day Highlights: 5-6 Hours Trek, Siniolchu, Simvo, Twin Peaks, Nepal Peaks, Kanchenjunga, Lakeside Camping
  • Day Details: After today’s breakfast, you will be embarking on the most fascinating part of this trek; trek to the Green Lake. As you will be gaining height, you can expect a bit of tricky terrains and challenges on the way. Along the entire trek, the astounding views of the Siniolchu, Simvo, Twin Peaks, Nepal Peaks and Kanchenjunga will keep you enthralled till you reach the Green Lake; overnight stay will be in the plains beside the lake.
Day 8
Day 08: Green Lake
  • Day Highlights: Leisure Day
  • Day Details: Spend the day gaping at the majestic mountains and lush green meadows, clicking photographs or rejuvenating your tired body. Explore the kaleidoscopic surroundings of the lake and spend the night at the Green Lake camp.
Day 9
Day 9: Trek from Green Lake to Yabuk (3,850m)
  • Day Highlights: 5-6 Hours Trek, Down Trek
  • Day Details: With the completion of today’s breakfast, you will be trekking back to Yabuk. Follow the trails that you have traced since last few days and trek downhill to the reach the Yabuk campsite for an overnight stay.
Day 10
Day 10: Trek from Yabuk to Jakthang (3,300m)
  • Day Highlights: 4-5 Hours Trek, Easy Trek, Colourful Rhododendron Thickets
  • Day Details: After breakfast in the Yabuk camp, embark on a trek through the scenic rhododendron forests and proceed towards Jakthang. The journey will be a pleasant one and will take you through rare and exotic flowery patches; overnight in Jakthang campsite.
Day 11
Day 11: Trek from Jakthang to Lachen (2,700m)

Day Highlights: 4-5 Hours Trek, Trek Ends Here

Day Details: Today’s walk will be one of the easiest one and will take you to Lachen within around 4 to 5 hours. Arriving in Lachen, check-in into a local hotel for an overnight stay; this will be last day of trekking.

Day 12
Day 12: Drive from Lachen to Gangtok (5-6 Hours)

Day Highlights: Scenic Drive, Phodong Monastery, MG Marg

Day Details: After having breakfast in the hotel, take a drive through the scenic routes that are bordered with brightly coloured rhododendrons and advance towards Gangtok. On the way, you will be visiting the Phodong Monastery. Arriving in the capital city of Sikkim, check-in into a hotel and relax for the rest of the day. By evening, you can take a stroll through the local markets, visit the renowned MG Marg and several other attractions of Gangtok; overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 13
Day 13: Drive from Gangtok to NJP/Bagdogra Airport (4-5 Hours)

Day Highlights: Tour Ends Here

Day Details: On the last day of the Green Lake trek, Sikkim,, you will finally be driven towards the Bagdogra Airport or New Jalpaiguri Railway Station. With your droop at the respective spot, this exciting Green Lake trek will finally come to an end.

  • Climatic conditions in the high altitudes vary from the plains; take adequate time to get acclimatized to high altitudes.
