About the Yuksom Dzongri Trek:
The Yuksom Dzongri trek will take you to the heart of the beautiful Sikkim landscape. One will be tasked to make their way through the rugged, challenging and fascinating trails. Offering you a glimpse of some of the magnificent peaks like Kabru (7,353m), Ratong (6,678m), Kanchenjunga (8,534m), Koktang (6,147m), Pandim (6,691m) and Narsingh (5,825m). Along with your way to the Dzongri peak, you can also visit several other attractions as well.
This includes some of the popular and stunning waterfalls within the region, sunset point like Tiger Hill in Darjeeling which will cap off a wonderful trek. The trek will lead you to some of the majestic sights of the mountains and the distant valleys. This trek is considered as a moderate trek. The temperature here might go beyond the freezing point at any time of the year. This exotic trek takes you through the thick pristine forest of Sikkim Himalayas takes you to the highest point of at Dzongri Top around 15000 ft from where one can imbibe the splendour of Kanchenjunga National Park. You will complete this trek in a period of eleven days.
Come across the famous and beautiful Khecheopalri Lake. It is believed that the birds here do not allow any leaves to fall on the lake. This trek shares the similar trek course to Chaurikhang the HMI Basecamp and Goechala Trek and starts at Yuksom. Dzongri Trek is considered as one of the shortest high altitude trekking in Sikkim. This trek has been attracting a lot of travellers from far and wide. Nestled high in the Himalayas between China to the north, Bhutan to east and Nepal to eastern frontier, Sikkim is often described as a land of unparalleled scenic beauty. A hidden gem in the north-eastern region of the country, trekkers on this trek gets introduced to the fascinating beauty of picturesque landscapes, exotic wildlife and rolling wildlife.
The Yuksom to Dzongri trek in Sikkim is one of those trekking trips in India that will bring you to virgin, undiscovered lands coupled with the towering mountain peaks for a company that will ensure that you are among great company. The trek is often dubbed as ‘walking in Paradise’ and can be safely said that it is a traveller’s delight. As you continue your trek you will come across the sights of the milky white peaks all around Dzongri. Arrival in NJP/Bagdogra Airport, Drive to Kalimpong (80km – 3 Hours by Road)
Arriving at the Bagdogra Airport or in NJP, you will be driven to Kalimpong. Upon arrival in the scenic town, check-in into a hotel for an overnight stay.
Drive from Kalimpong to Yuksum
An enthralling drive through the winding terrains and narrow passes of Kalimpong will take you to Yuksum today. Arriving in Yuksum, get settled down and spent the day in leisure. Come evening, take a stroll around the coronation site and Ani Gompa in the town
Trek from Yuksum to Sachen Camp (2,750m)
On the first day of your trek, you will be trekking from Yuksum to Bakhim (14km). Walk through dense forests comprising of pine and oak trees, cross the Prek Chu River continue hiking uphill till you reach Sachen, your camping destination; overnight stay in camps.
Trek from Sachen – Bakhim – Tshoka Camp (3,050m)
Today, you will be trekking to Bakhim while meandering through magnolia and rhododendron trees. Visit the beautiful but small Tshoka village, catch a breath-taking view of Mt Pandim, Aralunchong, Lamba-Lamini and spend the night in a local wooden hut in Tshoka.
Trek from Tshoka to Dzongri Camp (4,020m)
Start the day with a trek to Dzongri. Taking around 5 hours, you will be walking through dense forests consisting of rhododendrons as well as 400 different flowering species. Upon reaching Phethang, take a short break and get enough time to enjoy the scenic beauty around you. Continuing with the trek, reach Dzongri by late afternoon and get settled into local wooden huts; overnight stay in the huts.
Excursion to Laxmi Pokhari
Wake up early in the morning to watch the sunrise over Khangchendzonga, Kabru, Pandim, Rathong and other peaks belonging to the Khangchendzonga range. After breakfast, indulge in an excursion to Laxmi Pokhari and witness the magical beauty of the region; overnight stay in a wooden hut in Dzongri.
Trek from Dzongri to Tsokha
Wake up to the beauty of mountain peaks by climbing to Dzongri top from where one can get a panaromic view of Kabru (7353M), Ratong (6678 M), Kanchenjanga (8534 M), Koktang (6147 M), Pandim (6691 M), Narsingh (5825 M). Trek through the Singalila Ridge till you reach Tsokha; overnight stay in a wooden hut.
Trek from Toskha to Yuksom
Enjoy a trek down to Yuksom that has a 4,000ft descent and takes around 7 hours to get completed. Enjoy an evening soiree and then bid farewell to the porters and trekking staff; overnight stay at the designated hotel.
Drive from Yuksom-Pelling
Enjoy a sumptuous breakfast in the morning before driving from Yuksom to Pelling in West Sikkim. Visit the beautiful Khecheopalri Lake where legend has it that the birds in the area do not allow leaves that trees shed to fall into the lake; overnight stay in a hotel.
Drive from Pelling to Darjeeling (110 km/4 Hours by Road)
After a filling breakfast in the morning, drive through the scenic route between Pelling and Darjeeling. On arrival, and in the evening, visit the famous Darjeeling shopping mall followed by an overnight stay at the hotel.

We started our trip from the Bagdogra airport and then went Gangtok that almost took two hours on road. We stayed there for two days, because we had to explore that place to our fullest. We visited many awesome places of Gangtok, wao ita a wonderful city always crowded by tourists. after that we headed for Dzongri via Yuksom and Tshoka. Trekking at Dzongri was very adventurous trip for all of us. From there we went to Darjeeling the ultimate beauty. I never expected that these places would be so amazing.

Guys dont forget to carry warm clothes, its really cold there especially in Darjeeling. we loved the trekking experience . I was pleased by the services of hotel staaf, there are some really nice hotels in Gangtok so accomodation won't be any issue for you. listen to your guide's instruction that will make your trekking easier. For us it was definately a wonderful experience. Enjoyed throughly.

I always wanted to visit Sikkim and thrillophilia made this dream of mine true. Surrounded by beautiful snowy mountains and greenery, it is a must visit place. Trek was also awesome. the instructors were so very good and they took care of us perfectly. It was an amazing experience.
When is the best time do Dzongri Trek?
The best season for trekking in this region is the summer between mid of March till June mid. After that, another right time is in the autumn during mid September till November. If you want to go for trekking in this region then you must not go trekking during monsoon season, i.e. between (end June to mid of September) as the path of the trail becomes slippery and muddy. Also during this season landslides and loose rocks are quite common and as a result the approaching roads get blocked.
What level of fitness is expected from me?
One has to be Relatively Fit and Healthy to complete this trek. Normal hiking for 6 to 7 hours a Day is one of the most required qualification for this high altitude trek. One has to be mentally prepared along with good health to undertake high altitude trekking. In order to complete this trek without much difficulties one has to make sure to do some excercises like Running and Long distance uphill trekking atleast a months before a trek. This excecises really helps you keep Fit and Healthy during the trek.

What kind of shoes I should have?
You should carry high-ankle trekking shoes. Different shoes are suitable for different kinds of treks, depending on the weather, trail condition as well as duration of the trek. For this particular trek, shoes with thick souls are recommended.
What will be the facility of food and water during the Dzongri Trek?
There are proper meals with subsequent nutritional values planned for the people coming in for the trek. From dinner on Day 1 to Breakfast on the last day, all meals will be provided. This would include nutritional vegetarian meals with the addition of tea and coffee during breaks.
What all medicines I should carry? Can I take diamox?
Carrying medicines is important while trekking anywhere in the world. Your first-aid should have anti-diarrhea medicine such as loperamide but make sure that you don't take it unless getting to a toilet isn't an option. During the trekking you may not have access to pharmacies. So it’s better to have medications ready. Yes, you can carry diamox and can be taken too if having sickness/nausea.
Will there be mobile connectivity on Dzongri Trek?
Indian mobile networks do not work for most part of this trek. Vodafone and BSNL are the only mobile networks that work in patches along the way (but are inconsistent).
How to reach Yuksom? Where is Dzongri Trek Located?
When you arrive at NJP/Bagdogra Airport we will drive to Kalimpong which is about 80kms. Upon arrival in the scenic town, check-in into a hotel for an overnight stay. The next morning we drive from Kalimpong to Yuksom. Dzongi Trek is nestled in the fabulous Himalayas and offers many spectacular and charming views of the nature's exquisiteness. Sikkim is best destinations for the travelers across the globe as it has a lot to offer from the panoramic views of the unparalleled Kanchanjunga range, monasteries, ancient temples and many other things.
What will be the temperature like on Yuksom Dzongri Trek?
In Summer (May - June) the average day temperature varies between 15°C to 25°C, and night temperature between 8°C to 15°C. At Dzongri the day time temperature ranges between 7°C to 15°C and at night between 3°C to -2°C. In Autumn (Mid September to end October) the average day temperature varies between 13°C to 20°C, and night temperature between 2°C to 7°C. At Dzongri the day temperature ranges between 3°C to 10°C and at night between 3°C to -4°C.
When will be snow there on this trek?
Tshoka is the first trekking destination from Yuksam. From Tshoka you can see a sight soaring snow covered peaks Mt. Pandim and a few others. Dzongri Viewpoint is another stunning and ultimate site from where you can get 360 degree spectacular panoramic views of the snow capped towering mountain peaks and hills. Dzongri View point is located at the altitude of 4250 meters on the top of the hill and offers awe-inspiring and mesmerizing backdrop of the great Himalayan Range.
Can we consume alcohol if it's really cold during the trek?
Consumptionof any intoxicants is prohibited during the treks.
Is it a good trek for first timer?
You should be physically fully fit to take this trek. This is a moderate to difficult trek. While prior trek experience will be very handy, it is not essential though. Altitude acclimatization is a must. Beyond Dzongri, air gets lighter and with lesser oxygen.

This is a moderate to difficult trek.
How much do we have to trek each day?
We will cover anywhere between 8-15kms a day barring the days left out for sightseeing, travelling and other tourist activities.
Is it a safe trek for girls?
For girls, trekking is extremely safe. Vendors have highest regards for women safety and will ensure that they're safe during the entire trek. If there is only one girl in the trip, then she will be provided with single tent to sleep alone. If there are more girls, then they can sleep under one tent. Always make sure that you are never left on your own. Understand your pace and be with the group.
