What Makes Darjeeling Tour Package Price Go Up or Down
Seasonal demand: Prices surge by 30%–50% during peak spring (March to May) and autumn months (October to November), then drop significantly during the heavy monsoon season (July to September).
Hotel choice and room view: Choosing a basic valley-view homestay keeps costs low, while upgrading to a premium heritage property on Chowrasta Mall Road, particularly one with clear views of Mt Kanchenjunga, can significantly increase the package price.
Vehicle type and sharing: Opting for a dedicated private SUV (such as an Innova or Xylo) on mountain roads adds considerably to your transport costs. Choosing shared jeeps or smaller hatchbacks is a straightforward way to keep expenses down.
Toy train add-on inclusions: Adding the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway (DHR) heritage joyride to your itinerary raises your activities spend. Leaving it out is one of the easiest ways to trim the overall package price.
Itinerary customisation and extensions: Extending your trip to include nearby destinations such as Gangtok, Kalimpong, or Pelling increases travel distances and raises the overall cost due to additional permit requirements and transit expenses.

Thrillophilia’s Tips for Travellers for a Darjeeling Trip
Packing Guide
Packing for the Darjeeling trip is not just about heavy winter gear; it is mainly about how smartly you can layer your clothing. The weather can shift from warm during the day to chilly in the evenings, so it is important to layer your clothing accordingly. For morning Tiger Hill visits, it is recommended to wear something heavy as it might remain very cold at that time.
What to keep in mind while packing:
Carry more layers of clothes than heavy jackets
Keep light woollens even during summers, as the weather fluctuates a lot.
Always pack comfortable shoes for walking on the hilly terrain.
Sunglasses, sunscreen, and small backpacks should also be packed for day trips.
Local Transportation (Shared vs Private Taxis)
Travelling around in Darjeeling is completely road-based, and your options are mainly between shared or private cabs provided by Thrillophilia. Shared taxis are perfect for budget travellers as they are cheaper and operate on fixed routes and timings. Whereas private taxis give you flexibility and comfort, and also the scope to stop for views and breaks, which is something very important in hill station trips.
How to choose?
Private Taxis: These are much more comfortable than other options and are flexible, making them ideal for families and relaxed travelling.
Shared Taxis: These are a much more budget-friendly option for travelling and include fixed routes, making them okay for shorter trips.
Thrillophilia Note: Our packages mainly include private transfers for your ease and comfort.
Permits Required for Sikkim-Based Itineraries
If your Darjeeling trip includes Sikkim (Gangtok or North Sikkim), there’s one important thing that you should not overlook, which is permits. At the entry point of Rangpo, Indian travellers are required to show a valid ID proof, while international travellers need an Inner Line Permit (ILP) to enter the state, but it's very friendly to international visitors in 2026.
The good part is Thrillophilia usually handles all of these permits as they are included in the packages, so you don’t have to deal with the process yourself. Still, it is important to carry valid ID proofs and passport-size photographs. For higher altitude areas like Tsomgo Lake and Nathula Pass, additional permits are required, but Thrillophilia arranges them all for you.
Things to remember:
It is important to carry valid ID proofs for your trip.
Permits are checked at the Rangpo entry point.
There are certain extra permits needed for higher altitude areas (arranged by Thrillophilia).

Darjeeling Reviews By Departure City
Reviews from verified travellers who booked their Darjeeling tour packages from different cities across India
The overall experience was pretty good, except for the gangtok hotel. The rooms were a bit cramped and claustrophobic, but on request, they'll change it for us.
Overall experience was very good, they managed travel itineraries and site seeing as per the plan and able to cover most of the places which are part of the actual plan. There was a regular follow up throughout the trip and ensured the safe and on time pickup and drop. The stay at Darjeeling and Gangtok hotels were good, however the Pelling hotel was average. I would recommend Thrillophilia’s for future trips, as they were well organised and ensured peaceful travel throughout the trip.
North East India is underrated and Thrillophilia packaged it in a way that made it accessible without losing the rawness of the region. Dzukou Valley in Nagaland, Loktak Lake in Manipur, the tribal villages. These are not on typical tourist circuits and yet Thrillophilia had everything organised and smooth. A trip that changed my perspective on travelling within India.
Thanks to Rahul from the sales team for designing such a wonderful itinerary for us and for continuously checking in on us throughout the trip.
We booked with Thrillophilia for a 9 days trip to Gangtok and Darjeeling. Our contact person Gautam with whom I did the booking was available throughout the trip.. We had a partial booking of our hotel stay as we had a voucher from Karma club and the rest of the trip was to be orgbaised around it. Still they did a great job of it. Hotel rooms were decent but could be better. They have a tie up with Ankita holidays for North East. The local person Mr Shambu Singh kept in touch daily to check and updated us with the driver details etc. Overall a good trip. We enjoyed it...
Sikkim family holiday was perfectly designed the right mix of nature, culture and comfortable pacing for kids.
Tsomgo Lake and Rumtek Monastery were absolute favourites and the kids couldn't stop talking about the yaks.
Good hotels, very helpful guides and no unpleasant surprises throughout the trip.
The toy train from New Jalpaiguri to Darjeeling was pure nostalgia. Gurudongmar Lake at sunrise with the Himalayan backdrop was one of the most beautiful things I have ever witnessed. Thrillophilia added an unexpected yak ride at Tsomgo Lake for the kids which they absolutely loved. Very well planned trip for my family
Sikkim ke mountains itne peaceful hain ki rooz wahan rehne ka mann karta hai. Pelling se Kangchenjunga ka view dekh ke bilkul emotional ho gaya tha. Guide ki knowledge of local culture was excellent. This region deserves so much more love from Indian travellers!
