How to Reach Shimla from Bhubaneswar?

1. By Air

Direct flights from Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar to Shimla are not available. The more advantageous choice would be to initially fly to either Delhi or Chandigarh. A limited number of flights connect Delhi to Shimla’s Jubbarhatti Airport, which is situated approximately 20 kilometres from the city centre. The alternative is to travel by road from Delhi or Chandigarh to Shimla after landing.

2. By Rail

The nearest major railway station to Shimla is Kalka, which is around 85.5 kilometres away. From Bhubaneswar, take a train to New Delhi or Ambala, then board a connecting train to Kalka. From there, the Kalka-Shimla toy train is a good choice if you want a scenic ride through hills and pine forests.

Best Time to Visit Shimla

Shimla is open to travellers all year, but each season offers something different based on what you are looking for.

1. Spring (March to April)

Expect temperatures ranging from 10°C to 20°C. This is an ideal time for short hikes, local markets, and viewing rhododendrons in bloom.

2. Summer (May to June)

With weather ranging from 15°C to 30°C, this is the most popular time. Mall Road outings, Kufri picnics, and views of the lush valley are all options.

3. Monsoon (July to September)

Temperatures stay between 14°C and 24°C. Rain is frequent, so outdoor travel can be limited during these months.

4. Autumn (October to November)

Cool and clear, between 10°C and 23°C. Capturing pictures and enjoying the sites is at its most enjoyable during this season.

5. Winter (December to February)

Cold and snowy, from -2°C to 10°C. Winters are the best time for snow lovers and skiing in Kufri.
