    Kinnaur

Kinnaur is the most scenic but less known district of Himachal Pradesh, located on the Indo-Tibet border. It is surrounded by Tibet on the east, Garhwal Himalaya trek on the south, Spiti Valley on the north and Kullu on the west. The Sutlej River, which rises on the southern slopes of Kailash Parvat near Mansarovar in Tibet flows through the Kinnaur valley. Due to the proximity of Kinnaur to Tibet, the life style and religion of its inhabitants had been influenced by Buddhism, mostly in the northern and central regions, although the majority of the people practice Hinduism. Set within the Greater trekkings in Himalayan belt it boasts of the highest mountains in Himachal Pradesh. Close to the border with Tibet, entry to Kinnaur was restricted even for Indian nationals till 1993 and foreigners still have to register themselves with Inner line permit. Kinnaur valley comprises of the lower valley of Spiti and Satluj gorge, the two rivers race through valleys of The Satluj and The Spiti. Sutlej river which has its origin (common to the Indus and Bhramaputra rivers) in Lake Mansarovar beside the holy Mt. Kailash in Tibet. Kinnaur holds three of the world's grand mountain ranges - the Zanskar, the Greater Himalaya and the Dhauladhar, Mount Kinner Kailash (6'050 m) dominates this region, it has religious significance for a huge "SHIVA LINGAM" the representation of Lord Shiva which is a 79 feet vertical rock formation that resembles a Shivalinga and changes color as the day passes. This is one of the mythical abodes of Lord Shiva. The circuit around the whole range attracts many pilgrims every year. The Parikrama or circumambulation begins from Kalpa via Triung valley and back to Kalpa via Sangla valley. Drive up to Thangi and the actual trekking begins from here. To reach this forbidden land, India's northern tip, before July, we travel through the Hindustan - Tibet highway, the ancient silk route following the Satluj. The Spiti river joins the Sutlej from the west and runs parallel with the Great Himalayan Range, the natural boundary between India and Tibet (China). In July it is possible to enter Spiti from the north, crossing Rohtang Pass (3980m.) into Lahaul and Kumzum La (4550m).

The Pindari Glacier is located between two famous peaks. The first one Nanda Kot and the other one, Nanda Deviq has lots of religious importance. The uneven elegance of the place offers stunning sights, specifically if you are trekker who has a special attachment to nature. The Pindari Glacier has a pure white color, while it is not odd to come across light brown and blue shades in some areas. In terms of dimensions, the glacier has a length of over 3.2 km and width of 1.5 km. it has huge mountains in the backdrop that seem to be hanging over you and always giving the sensation of falling over. This amazing effect makes this place a must visit destination for everyone who wants to experience an amazing closeness to nature. When it comes to the Pindari trek, it would mostly remain close to the Nanda Devis edge. Your journey would begin at Nainital and take you to Lahorkhet. Once here, you would be spending the night in camps. You would also enjoy the journey through Dhakuri. As you move ahead, you come across the mountain forests and villages. The camps would be set up in different locations during the journey, giving you an unparalleled adventurous experience. The trek would take you to some impressive landscapes, with the conventional remote villages being the leading attractions for everyone. Almost any trekker can handle the Pindari Glacier trek without any difficulty. You would be well rewarded by the magnificent beauty of the Himalayan Treks and the elegance of the flora and fauna. You would also be able to come across snow-covered mountains, bubbling torrents in the hills and the deafening waterfalls. The view of the morning sun creating a spectral hue by lighting up the dew on the grass blades is simply mesmerizing. The trek would give you a chance to explore the colors and splendor of the area, as you would come across a new show at every turn.

The trek to Himachal Pradesh offers an implausible look into the pin valleys and Spiti valleys. From Kullu, we would descend to the Spiti valley, Gompa and all the other adjoining villages. The landscape transforms radically after you cross the bhaba pass. The empty land is now filled up with dense forests of cedar as well as pine. Kunzum la and Rohtak pass gives us an amazing insight to the beauties of nature. Visit the dhankar monastery which is a famous monastery. Rest at the base camp and continue to trek at the Bhawa Pass. Then you would come across the Bhawa River. The trek would end here at Shimla- once capital of the British.

Kinnaur Kailash Parikrama Trek is a religious yet very adventurous one. If you are someone who would enjoy really long treks which involves rock climbing, boulder hopping, etc, then you would definitely enjoy this trek. I absolutely loved how the whole trek was made into a beautiful experience. I am glad to have taken this package.

Kinnaur Kailash Parikrma Trek is one of the best treks I had known about. Trekking Himalayas is no longer a distant dream. There are many moderate level challenging treks that are available in trek packs to trekking enthusiasts. We, some of the Chennai Trekkers, took this trek and it was amazing. The trek was definitely tedious and exhausting, but we did make it to the top and back. It was a spellbinding experience. The flights were costly, but the trek as such is not that costly. It was a nice trek.

Conquering the 4850m peak was like a dream come true for me. Comapred to my other treks; Pin Parvati, Hemkund and Roopkund, I would rank this one as the best. I was luck enough to join the trek at the last moment and once it started, it took me high! Those who haven't experienced the Pin Parvati, can enjoy magical views of the peak while in this trek. Pretty much difficult...so better be prepared for any kind of obstacle.

After we gave a thumbs up to the Bhaba Pass trek in Himachal Pradesh, we all were like what to and what not to do! Its difficulty gradient were a bit challenging for us. But, 'where there is a will, there is a way' got proved and we finally completed the trek so nicely. A huge amount of the entire credit goes to the experienced crew of guides. Their encouragement and support made it possible for us.
