Itinerary

Day 1
Arrival at Paro & Transfer to Thimphu | Welcome to Land of the Thunder Dragon
Thimphu
  • Reach Paro International Airport from where a comfortable vehicle and a local driver will help you transfer to the capital city of Thimphu.
  • On reaching Thimphu, check in to the hotel and take some rest.
  • The rest of the day is at your leisure and you’ll be free to explore the beautiful Local Markets of Thimphu.
  • You’ll then return back to your hotel.
  • Dinner and overnight in Hotel in Thimphu.
Day 2
Thimphu Sightseeing | Explore the Capital & its Rich Culture
Thimphu
  • The day begins with a delicious breakfast after which you’ll head out for an amazing sightseeing tour of Thimphu.
  • You’ll proceed to visit the National Memorial Chorten that was  built in the honour of late King Jigme Dorji Wangchuck.
  • Also visit the largest Buddha Statue that overlooks the beautiful Thimphu Valley and the Motithang Takin Preserve, the humble abode of Takin, the national animal of Bhutan.
  • Other highlights include a visit to the Tashichho Dzong, the seat of the national government and the Central Monastic Body, including the summer residence of the Je Khenpo (Chief Abbot of Bhutan).
  • Later drive to Simtokha Dzong; the oldest Dzong of Bhutan built by Zhabdrung in 1627 and finally visit the Handicrafts Emporium followed by shopping for souvenirs at the local markets in Thimphu.
  • Dinner and Overnight stay at the Hotel in Thimphu.
Day 3
Thimphu to Gangtey | Explore the natural wonders of Bhutan
Gangtey Monastery
  • After breakfast embark on a drive to the beautiful valley of Gangtey via Dochula Pass.
  • If the weather is clear, we stop for a while at Dochula Pass to view Higher Himalayas.
  • Stopover for sightseeing in the valley of Wangdiphodrang.
  • Here you can visit Wangdiphodrang Dzong, situated at the confluence of Mo Chu and Tang Chu rivers.
  • Legends have it that as people were searching for the site of Dzong, four ravens were seen flying away in four directions & was considered an auspicious sign, representing the compass.
  • You’ll then drive further to Gangtey, where on arrival check in to Gangtey Guest House.
  • Then visit Gangtey Gompa Monastery from outside which is a Nyingmapa monastery.
  • You’ll then explore Phobjikha Valley, famous for the Black necked Cranes during winter.
  • Dinner and overnight at the Guest House.
Day 4
Gangtey to Punakha | The Juncture of the two Beautiful Rivers
Punakha
  • Start your day with a healthy breakfast and embark on a drive to Punakha.
  • On the way, visit Chimi Lhakhang, also known as “the Temple of Fertility”, and built by Lama Drukpa Kuenley who subdued the demons with his “Magical Thunderbolt”.
  • Visit Punakha Dzong situated between Pho Chu (Male River) and Mo Chu (Female River) which for many years until the time of the second king, served as the seat of the Government.
  • Punakha is still the winter residence of Je-Khenpo and King Jigme Dorji Wangchuck convened the new national Assembly here in 1952.
  • Dinner and overnight stay at the Hotel in Punakha.
Day 5
Punakha to Paro | A Day at Leisure to Experience the Essence of Bhutan
Paro
  • Start your day with a wholesome breakfast and then proceed to check out from the hotel.
  • You can then explore Punakha a bit more before departing to Paro.
  • On reaching Paro check in to the hotel and take some rest.
  • You’ll then drive to the ruins of the Drukgyel Dzong 16 km up the Valley.
  • Built in 1647 by the great Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, father and unifier of medieval Bhutan, the dzong was destroyed by accidental fire and left in ruins as an evocative reminder of the great victories it was built to commemorate.
  • Spend some time to explore the ramparts and on a clear day, experience an unforgettable view of Mt. Jhomolhari (7,314 m).
  • On the way back, visit Kichu Lhakhang, built in 659 A.D by the Tibetan king Songtsen Gampo.
  • Dinner and overnight in Hotel in Paro.
Day 6
Excursion to Taktsang | A Beautiful Hike to Taktsang Monastery (Tiger’s Nest)
Paro
  • Start your day with a healthy breakfast and then head out for an excursion to Taktsang Monastery.
  • You’ll drive to Satsam Chorten, from where a 2 hour horse ride will help you reach the viewpoint point of the monastery.
  • The trail climbs through beautiful pine forest and an occasional grove of fluttering prayer flags to reach Taktsang.
  • The monastery was built around Guru Rinpoche's meditation cave & clings to the edge of a rock cliff that plunges 900 meters into the valley below.
  • You can then visit Ta Dzong, an ancient watchtower, which now houses the National Museum below which is the Paro Rinpung Dzong (literally meaning “Heap of Jewels”).
  • Proceed for a short walk to the base of the dzong and across a traditional cantilevered, covered bridge.
  • In the evening, return back to the hotel
  • Dinner and overnight stay at the Hotel in Paro.
Day 7
Departure from Paro | Wave Goodbye to the Land of Thunder Dragon
Paro International Airport
  • After breakfast check out from the hotel and depart for Paro International Airport.
  • You’ll be dropped off at the Airport for your onward journey.
  • This marks the end of your trip with wonderful memories.
