About the Valley of Flowers Trek:

Perched at an altitude of 14,400 ft, this trek was a sudden discovery by British traveller Frank Smith in 1931.  Step into the bed of flowers while you head out for this one of a kind beautiful trek. You will start this trek from Govindghat via Joshimath which will lead you to Hemkund Sahib on day fourth.  The trek is considered as an easy to moderate trek and is a favourite among the beginners as well as avid trekkers.  Feast your eyes with the thousands of flowers in full bloom.  

You will come across several streams casually meandering through the valley. Next, you will come across the high altitude serene lake, Hemkund 4329 metre. This lake is considered as a holy site for both Hindus and Sikhs.  The trail will be a steep one but the amazing view with the seven snow-capped mountain around you will definitely make you feel enchanted. Witness the beauty of Hathi Parvat and Saptrishi peaks that feed the lake and you will find a small stream called Himganga which flows out from the lake.  It is believed that Govind Singh, the tenth Guru of the Sikh faith had meditated on the bank of this lake in one during the ancient times. 

On your fifth day, you will take the same trek route Ghangaria to Govindghat and then to Joshimath.  Your trek will be a steep one from Ghangharia while enjoying some amazing view of the regions. How To Reach:

If you are travelling from Bengaluru, Chennai, Pune, Mumbai or any other city, book your air tickets for Day Zero, which is the day before Day 1 on the itinerary. If your trek start day is 24 July, book your air tickets for 23 July to either Srinagar. 

We recommend this. It gives you an added rest day at Srinagar or even better if you are able to head towards Sonamarg.

There are two options.

Option 1:
Fly directly to Srinagar. 

You can travel to Sonamarg if you land at Srinagar before 12 noon.

How to reach Sonamarg? – From the airport, walk outside for 800 meters to take an auto to TRC. Auto will cost you around Rs 250 which is a good rate to pay. They might ask for Rs 300. Take a cab if you are travelling in a group. A taxi/cab will cost Rs 600 to Rs 750.

From TRC, you will get Swaraj Mazda buses frequently going to Soura which is 8 kms away. It takes about 40 mins to reach here and costs Rs 15. If you choose an auto, it will cost around Rs 150 to Rs 200.

From Soura, you get buses to Kangan which is about Rs 40. Again from Kangan, you need to change and take shared cabs to Sonamarg. This will cost around Rs 70 to Rs 150 depending on the number of travellers. If you get shared cabs directly from Soura to Shitkadi, it will cost Rs 300 to Rs 450.  

Note: Srinagar Airport to Srinagar TRC, you do have the bus service. However, they are not reliable. They do not move until they are half full.

Option 2:

Taking a train/bus to Jammu and reach Srinagar

If you are taking a bus to Jammu, then you have multiple options to take. There are two gates outside Jammu ISBT. You will get shared cabs from both these gates. 

If you are reaching the Railway Station, the share cabs to Srinagar will cost between Rs 700 to Rs 1000.

From Skiu, it is just a 6 to 7 hours trek to reach Markha after moderate climbing through the long unwinding trails. Several streams come your way but happily overcome those in order to relish the trove situated in the middle of the cold arid region. Green fields, willow trees and quaint villages are seen from the top of Markha Valley, more beautifully. The stunning view of Kangyatze Peak is the reward you get from Markha. Nimaling, Kongmaru La, Sumdo and finally Leh- this would be the route you take to return to the vibrant Leh to conclude the trek.

About the Base Camp :

Aru is the base camp of Tarsar Marsar trek, it is a small idyllic village surrounded by lavish grasslands. The village is famous because of some cottages, poplar trees and a rivulet flowing through this village’s heart.

The Aru villagers so heartily welcome trekkers that they surely come again to do another trek. The nature of Kashmir – meadows, rivers, streams, birds, animals and flowers everything is attracting people to visit it. Really, Jammu and Kashmir valley is no less than a paradise which is also known as Taj of India.

Only BSNL network works in ARU with no internet connectivity. Pahalgam is the last place where you will get the internet connectivity.

There are no ATMs in ARU, So if you want to take out the cash its better you do it in Srinagar.

About the Exotic Grasslands:

Before, Sundersar campsite, pass through wide Jagmargi grasslands. Therefore, get amazed by its pulchritude because the wide grasslands are surrounded by mountains and a small rivulet flows through the pristine valley blooming with the colorful flowers in yellow, blue and pink shades.

How To Reach Base Camp:

Take a shared cab from Srinagar to Anantnag, it costs Rs 80/- The distance is 58 kms and takes 1 ½ to 2 hours. Then from Anantnag stand to Pahalgam change to another shared cab, the cost is Rs 110/- distance covered is 45 kms in about 1:15 – 1:30 mins.

Change again from Pahalgam stand to Aru village, it takes about 30 mins to cover 13 kms. Cabs are frequent to Aru and easy to get, it costs Rs 20.

These shared cabs run throughout the day and are frequent but ensure you reach Pahalgam before 4 pm to catch the last cab to Aru Village. 

Private taxis are also available from Srinagar to Aru but are costly and cost Rs 3000.
