Lal Chowk
The bustling Lal Chowk area is the commercial centre of Srinagar, known for Kashmiri shawls, local handicrafts, and authentic regional cuisine. It is also an excellent place to experience the city's culture and daily life.
Pro-tip:
The right Srinagar package from Delhi is the one that includes a direct flight and then preserves the city's rhythm, not the one that adds the most names to the itinerary.
Best Time for the Srinagar trip from Delhi
Spring (March to April)
Temperatures in this season usually range between 8°C and 20°C, making it the best time for tulip-season travel, blooming Mughal gardens, and photo-focused city breaks. Bloom windows are short, and demand may increase quickly during peak weeks. The annual tulip bloom is one of Srinagar's biggest seasonal highlights during these months.
Best For: First-time visitors, couples, and photographers.
Summer (May to June)
This period offers the most comfortable conditions for sightseeing and is ideal for travel, especially as an escape from Delhi’s heat. Temperatures generally range from 15°C to 30°C, and long daylight hours are ideal to combine Srinagar with destinations such as Gulmarg and Pahalgam.
Best For: Families and Groups
Monsoon / Green Season (July to September)
This season is best for lush green landscapes and a calm city atmosphere in some windows. During these months, temperatures range between 18°C and 32°C, allowing travellers to enjoy quieter gardens and greener valleys.
Best For: Repeat visitors, budget travellers, and those seeking fewer crowds.
Autumn (October to November)
This season is known for chinar colours, great photography conditions, and a calmer pace, though days are slightly shorter and evenings become cooler. Temperatures usually range from 7°C to 22°C, making autumn one of Kashmir's most beautiful seasons due to the golden and red foliage across the valley.
Best For: Couples, photographers, and nature lovers.
Winter (December to February)
This is best for experiencing a winter ambience, snow, and combining Srinagar with Gulmarg, but colder weather requires careful planning. Temperatures generally range from -2°C to 10°C, creating a diverse atmosphere from the rest of the year.
Best For: Honeymooners, snow lovers, and Gulmarg visitors.
Where to Stay During Your Delhi to Srinagar Trip
Dal Lake / Boulevard-Facing Stays
These stays are ideal for first-time travellers and couples who want easy access to Shikara rides, scenic lake views, and the classic Srinagar atmosphere. They work well for short trips, including the city’s most recognisable experiences.
Houseboats
Houseboat stays are best for couples and first-time visitors seeking one memorable Srinagar experience. A houseboat night stay is enough to enjoy the beauty without making the trip less comfortable or less practical.
City Hotel Stays
City hotels are suitable for seniors, families, and travellers who value reliable facilities, easier movement, and a better cost balance. Hotels usually work best for comfort-focused trips and longer stays.
Nigeen-Facing or Quieter Stay Options
These stays are ideal for premium buyers and slower travellers who prefer a calmer atmosphere away from the busier Boulevard areas. These options provide a more relaxed Srinagar experience with less crowd pressure.
Pro-tip:
Do not assume every Srinagar stay has the same romantic experience. A city hotel, a boulevard hotel, a houseboat, and a quiet lake stay all create very diverse trip styles.
Top Experiences to Include in Delhi to Srinagar itinerary
Dal Lake Shikara Ride
A shikara ride on Dal Lake is one of the most important experiences in Srinagar and ideal when paired with a lake-oriented stay. Early morning or sunset rides usually provide the most relaxed atmosphere.
Visit Duration: 1-2 hours
Suitable For: Families, Couples, first-time visitors, and photographers.
Entry Fee or Permit Requirement: No entry fee
Access or Weather Caveat: Fog, heavy rain, and strong winds can affect ride availability.
Lakefront Stay Experience
Choose either a Boulevard-facing hotel or a houseboat to provide a stronger Srinagar identity to the trip. One night stay at the lakefront can significantly improve the overall experience.
Visit Duration: 1-2 nights
Suitable For: First-time visitors, couples, and leisure travellers.
Entry Fee or Permit Requirement: No permit
Access or Weather Caveat: Limited room availability and higher rates during peak season.
Mughal Garden Circuit
Shalimar Bagh and Nishant Bagh are among the most visited Mughal-era gardens of Srinagar and are known for their terraced layouts and views of Dal Lake. Autumn and spring are the best seasons to explore the gardens comfortably.
Visit Duration: 2-4 hours
Suitable For: Garden lovers, photographers, and families.
Entry Fee or Permit Requirement: INR 20-30 per adult
Access or Weather Caveat: Gardens are more beautiful during spring blooms and autumn foliage.
Local Markets and Heritage Shopping
Lal Chowk and nearby shopping areas are suitable in Srinagar for buying dry fruits, pashmina, traditional Kashmiri handicrafts, papier-mâché items, and saffron. Travellers can visit these areas in the evening after sightseeing for a more lively experience.
Visit Duration: 2-3 hours
Suitable For: Cultural enthusiasts, shoppers, and families
Entry Fee or Permit Requirement: No entry fee or permit
Access or Weather Caveat: Evening traffic can increase visitors’ travel time.
Cultural and Seasonal Experiences
The Tulip Garden is explored during the limited spring bloom season, usually between late March and April. Travellers who are interested in quieter experiences can visit Nigeen Lake areas or include a light old-city exploration if time allows.
Visit Duration: 2-4 hours
Suitable For: Nature lovers, photographers, and cultural travellers
Entry Fee or Permit Requirement: Some places require entry tickets
Access or Weather Caveat: Bloom quality and timing vary slightly each year.
Srinagar Identity:
Srinagar's appeal is not just the number of attractions. It is the mix of gardens, lakes, market texture, slower mornings, and the fact that the city is ideal for both a short break and a gateway.
When to Add Gulmarg, Pahalgam, or Sonamarg
Gulmarg
Travellers can add Gulmarg to their Delhi to Srinagar travel packages when they want a stronger mountain contrast and experiences like the Gondola ride, one of Kashmir’s most popular attractions. Gulmarg addition is ideal in winter and shoulder seasons when snow or upland scenery becomes a major part of the trip.
Pahalgam
The addition of the Pahalgam in Delhi to Srinagar tour package works best when travellers prefer riverside views, a slower travel pace, and softer valley landscapes. It is ideal for couples and families looking for a more relaxed extension without making the itinerary feel overly packed.
Sonamarg
If the season supports smooth travel conditions and the Delhi to Srinagar itinerary has enough room for the longer route, then Sonmarg can be added. However, travellers should note that it is not the best fit for every short Srinagar trip, especially when travel time is limited.
Common Planning Mistakes Delhi Travellers Make
Travellers assume the short Delhi-to-Srinagar flight means that the complete itinerary can be packed tightly. In reality, hotel check-ins, airport transfers, and valley road journeys still require balanced pacing.
Sometimes, travellers automatically choose houseboats without focusing on their travel style. Houseboats are not always ideal for longer stays, families, or comfort-focused trips.
A common mistake is treating Srinagar only as a gateway instead of a destination. This generally leads to rushed schedules, leaving little time for gardens, markets, and Dal Lake.
Selecting Delhi to Srinagar travel packages only because of the cheapest starting price can affect transfer comfort, stay quality, seasonal timing, and what is actually included.
Adding Pahalgam, Sonamarg, and Gulmarg into every short itinerary creates unnecessary travel fatigue.
Ignoring seasonal fit is another major issue, as summer, spring, autumn, and winter give very different travel experiences in Srinagar.
Food and Practical Tips
Vegetarian and Jain Travellers
Indian travellers can find a good range of options in Srinagar, like paneer dishes, vegetable curries, and local specialities. Jain travellers need to communicate their dietary requirements in advance, related to onion and garlic restrictions. Established hotels and premium restaurants can prepare customised meals when informed beforehand.
Traditional Kashmiri Food Worth Trying
Yakhni- A mildly spiced yoghurt-based curry, usually prepared with mutton.
Kashmiri Dum Aloo- Baby potatoes cooked in a flavourful Kashmiri gravy.
Rogan Josh- Kashmir's signature slow-cooked lamb curry with aromatic spices.
Gushtaba- Soft meatballs cooked in a rich yoghurt-based gravy and served during Wazwan feasts.
Kahwa- Traditional Kashmiri green tea flavoured with almonds, saffron, and spices.

The trip was super good. I had a group trip to ladakh via manali. Firstly, trillophilla got us a thoughful combination of hotels/homestays/camps/cottages. And all of them were of good quality. The driver and local toor companies hired by trillophilla were great . The travel vehicle was in great condition. My only complain was volvo. The tulip garden, shikara ride, Gulmarg, every moment felt magical. Our coordinator had added small personal touches like flower arrangements in the houseboat room. That level of care made the trip special. Highly recommend for couples.
