The wooden wharf buildings at Bryggen have been there since the 14th century and the whole area is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Spend the morning walking through it. The Hanseatic Museum inside gives you the backstory on the merchant trade that built this part of the city.
After Bryggen, take the Fløibanen funicular up to Mount Fløyen. The ride takes 8 minutes and from the top you get a full view of the city, the harbour, and the islands stretching out beyond it.
Lunch at the Bergen Fish Market before you move on. Fresh shrimp and salmon are what the stalls are known for and a serving runs between INR 800 and 1,500.
The Norway in a Nutshell tour takes you from Flåm onto the Naeroyfjord by boat, cruising through to Gudvangen over about 2 hours. Bergen has been a working port since the 12th century, and that history is still visible in the wooden buildings along Bryggen wharf. The fish market, the funicular up to Fløyen, and the old Hanseatic quarter are all close together.
