  • Attractions and Activities: Ha Long Bay cruises (hourly/overnight), water activities at the beaches of An Nang, and scuba diving at Nha Trang are some popular traveller experiences that add to the total trip cost.

Food Guide for Indians in Vietnam

One of the most important factors to consider before planning an international trip is your food options. Will you get Indian options there? Which Vietnamese food would suit your preferences? Are there vegetarian and family-friendly options? Don’t worry, we will answer all your questions here.

Best Indian Restaurants in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City

  • Dalcheeni, Hanoi: This restaurant serves a wide range of Indian dishes and is especially popular with families and vegetarian travellers.
  • Namaste Hanoi, Hanoi: Located in the Hoan Kiem district, Namaste Hanoi offers both northern and southern Indian cuisines. It’s very popular with travellers with families or friends.
  • Namaste India, Ho Chi Minh City: Located on Bui Vien Boulevard, this restaurant offers Indian fine dining with a homely feel and live music on weekends. It is a dependable choice for travellers looking for familiar flavours, with a wide vegetarian selection and a comfortable dining atmosphere.
  • Shri Natraj Indian Cuisine, Ho Chi Minh City: With a homely and welcoming atmosphere, Shri Natraj is a gem for all Indian travellers looking for a personal and authentic dining experience in Vietnam with their family.

Is Vietnam vegetarian-friendly?

Since Vietnam is primarily a Buddhist country, it has many vegetarian and vegan-friendly options. Cities like Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh have vegetarian options in both Vietnamese and Indian cuisines.

For Indian travellers concerned about food preferences, Thrillophilia accommodates vegetarian meal requirements across Vietnam tour packages. We work with hotels and local partners to arrange suitable vegetarian meal options while also sharing destination-specific restaurant recommendations to make dining more convenient throughout the trip.

Good to know: Look out for the "chay", which means "vegetarian" in Vietnamese. Restaurant signs featuring the word “chay”, especially as "quán chay" or "cơm chay", mean that they are fully vegetarian. For safer veg options, dishes such as phở chay (vegetarian pho) and bánh mì chay (vegetarian banh mi) are commonly available in many places.

India-Vietnam Travel Insights

Although Vietnam is a very traveller-friendly country, it’s the small, ignorable issues that become a problem when you’re actually in the country. Here are some tips that will help you navigate Vietnam easily during your stay

Currency and Payments

  • The official currency of Vietnam is the Vietnamese dong. 1 INR = 277.19 VND as of June 2026.
  • Digital payments, especially via QR code, are increasingly becoming more widely accepted in Vietnam. Payments via apps like MoMo, ZaloPay, and VNPay are easily accepted at cafes, stores, and restaurants.
  • We suggest carrying some cash in case you plan on visiting souvenir shops or markets in rural areas.

SIM Cards

  • You can use Indian SIM cards (Jio, Airtel, Vodafone) in Vietnam by activating an international roaming pack before your arrival.
  • We recommend purchasing a local Vietnamese SIM card at the airport (Viettel or Mobifone) for faster connectivity and to save significantly on roaming charges.

Transportation

  • Vietnam has multiple online cab services. Using their services rather than taxis is often cheaper since taxis tend to quote a steeper price.
  • Thrillophilia arranges for all inter-city transfers on a shared/private basis, depending on the traveller requirements and budget.

Basic Vietnamese Phrases

It’s good to be familiar with primary Vietnamese phrases for connecting better with local people, especially for restaurants, in markets, and for availing cab services.

  • "Xin chào" (hello)
  • "Cảm ơn" (thank you)
  • "Bao nhiêu tiền?" (How much?)

Safety Tips for Indian Travellers in Vietnam

Vietnam is a safe country in general, but it never hurts to take precautions. Here are some things you should be mindful of while visiting the country:

  • While at markets, always bargain with the vendors before paying. Foreigners often get overcharged, especially at festival stalls or markets in tourist spots.
  • Vietnam is generally safe, but phone-snatching is a common occurrence on busy streets. Be careful during your leisure outings and be mindful of your belongings. If you’re carrying shoulder bags, wrap the strap around your hand for extra safety.
  • Eat at popular restaurants. While low-customer restaurants also serve good food, it’s better not to risk your health while you’re on a trip. Eating at places well-recommended and liked by fellow travellers or your local guide is the better way to go about it.
  • If you’re carrying a lot of cash or jewellery, don’t stash it in one place. Use your hotel’s safe/locker to keep them safe during your stay. Have copies of your passport and other documents along with the originals ready and handy at all times.
  • Save the address to your hotel on your phone to help with the language barrier, especially with cab services.

Why Book Your Vietnam Trip with Thrillophilia

With 7,000+ verified Vietnam tours from India handled and rated consistently 4.7 on post-trip ratings, Thrillophilia doesn’t just put together a few destinations. We bring expertise, real travel data, expert insights, and pre-trip preparation that doesn't leave room for any uncertainty at the last minute.

Here is what that looks like in practice.

How Every Vietnam Trip Package from India is Built

Every package goes through four checks before it is released:

  • Route Coordination with Regions: Depending on the regions you wish to cover during your Vietnam trip, your route changes vastly, which in turn affects your trip's energy and cost. By using realistic route insights and planning enough buffer time to account for any delays, we reduce travel fatigue and delays by a significant margin. This focus on realistic pacing becomes especially important in multi-city itineraries covering destinations like Hanoi, Ha Long Bay and Hoi An. One of our travellers from Bangalore, Laxmi Deshpande, booked Wonders of Vietnam with FREE Visit to Fansipan Mountain and said, "the itinerary moved at exactly the right pace", despite covering multiple regions and experiences within a single journey.
  • Data-driven itinerary planning: With AI-assisted planning tools that analyse pacing, crowd flow, and connection efficiency, our itineraries are hyper-personalised to your needs while being heavily data-backed. Every itinerary is then reviewed and validated by Vietnam travel experts.
  • Visa support: Document checks and itinerary formatting are handled thoroughly before submission.
  • Hotel location planning: Accommodations are chosen according to their proximity to transfer hubs and markets. This is especially useful for trips with multiple transfers and avoid any risks of delays or hold-ups, despite the traffic.

Vietnam Travellers Frequently Ask

What is the currency of Vietnam?

The currency of Vietnam is the Vietnamese Dong (VND). As of 2026, 1 INR is approximately equal to 270 to 280 VND, although exchange rates may vary. While credit cards are accepted at most hotels, malls, and restaurants in major cities, carrying some cash is useful for local markets, street food vendors, taxis, and smaller shops.

Is 7 days enough for Vietnam?

Yes, 7 days is considered ideal for a first-time Vietnam trip. It allows you to cover major destinations such as Hanoi, Halong Bay, Da Nang, Hoi An, and Ho Chi Minh City, along with regions like Sa Pa, Hue, and the Mekong Delta, at a comfortable pace. Based on Thrillophilia's recent booking trends of 2025, 7-day itineraries have emerged as one of the most preferred choices among Indian travellers.

How much does it cost for a Vietnam trip from India?

At Thrillophilia, a 5-day Vietnam tour from India starts at INR 38,990, covering your accommodation, transfers, and selected meals, sightseeing tickets, and activities. This package, combined with round-trip flights (INR 14,700-INR 25,000 per person), visa application fees (around INR 2,300 per person) for a single entry with 30 days' validity and your daily expenses, comes to around INR 55,000+ per person on average.

Do you need a visa for Vietnam?

Yes, Indian passport holders require an e-visa to visit Vietnam. The application process is completed online via Vietnam’s official e-visa application portal and typically takes 3–5 working days for approval, with an application fee of nearly INR 2,300 for a single entry. Travellers should carry a printed copy of their approved e-visa while travelling. Travellers booking with Thrillophilia receive visa guidance with all Vietnam tour packages.

How can I go to Vietnam from India?

Vietnam is easily accessible from India through both direct and connecting flights. Airlines such as IndiGo, Air India, Vietnam Airlines, and VietJet Air operate services from major Indian cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, and Kolkata. Flight durations typically range between 4 and 8 hours depending on the route.

What is Vietnam famous for?

Vietnam is known for destinations like Hanoi, Halong Bay, Hoi An, Ho Chi Minh City, and Sa Pa. It is equally famous for its street food culture, limestone karst landscapes, French-colonial architecture, beaches, and rich cultural heritage. Many travellers also choose Vietnam because it offers excellent value compared to several other international destinations.

Do Vietnam tour packages operate from Mumbai?

Yes. Thrillophilia offers Vietnam tour packages from Mumbai with a 5-day trip priced at INR 45,000. These itineraries cover popular destinations such as Hanoi, Halong Bay, Da Nang, Hoi An, Ho Chi Minh City, Sa Pa, and Phu Quoc. Packages are available across different budgets and travel styles, including family holidays, honeymoon trips, and group tours. Travellers can also customise their itinerary based on trip duration, preferred experiences, hotel category, and sightseeing interests.

What are the best adventure activities to do on a Vietnam trip?

Vietnam offers a wide range of adventure experiences for different travel styles. Some of the most popular activities include kayaking in Halong Bay, trekking through the rice terraces of Sa Pa, scuba diving in Nha Trang, exploring Cat Ba Island, and riding the famous Ha Giang Loop through northern Vietnam's mountain landscapes.

Is Vietnam safe for Indian solo female travellers?

Yes, Vietnam is generally considered one of the safer destinations in Southeast Asia for solo female travellers. Popular destinations such as Hanoi, Hoi An, Da Nang, and Ho Chi Minh City have well-developed tourism infrastructure, reliable transport options, and active traveller communities. For travellers booking with Thrillophilia, airport transfers, verified accommodations, guided sightseeing, and on-trip assistance add an extra layer of convenience and support, making it easier to explore the country with confidence.

Is Vietnam vegetarian-friendly for Indians?

Vietnam is a very vegetarian-friendly country because of its Buddhist traditions. Besides, cities like Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City have an abundance of Indian restaurants offering vegetarian food, like Namaste India in Ho Chi Minh City and Dalcheeni in Hanoi. While booking with Thrillophilia, you can rest assured since we provide vegetarian meals in our Vietnam tour package inclusions, along with an option to opt for Jain food options, as per your dietary preference.

What is the best Vietnam itinerary for first-timers from India?

A 7 to 8-day itinerary covering Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Hoi An, Hanoi, and Halong Bay is a good choice for first-time visitors. It includes a boat ride in Hanoi and a cruise trip in Halong Bay, among other activities, starting at INR 52,000. It also offers a balanced introduction to both northern and southern Vietnam.

Can I use Indian SIM cards in Vietnam?

Yes, Indian SIM cards can work in Vietnam if international roaming is activated before departure. However, many travellers prefer purchasing a local Viettel or Mobifone SIM card at Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City airports because they offer affordable data plans and reliable coverage across most tourist destinations.

What is the Vietnam e-visa fee for Indians in 2026?

The Vietnam e-visa fees for Indians are approximately INR 2,300 for a single-entry visa of 30-day validity and INR 4,600 for a multi-entry visa of up to 90-day validity, as per 2026 guidelines. All Thrillophilia packages include visa guidance for each traveller.

Is Phu Quoc visa-free for Indians?

Yes, Indian passport holders can visit Phu Quoc visa-free for up to 30 days under current regulations of 2026. To qualify for this, you have to arrive directly in Phu Quoc or transit through a third country like Thailand or Malaysia without visiting mainland Vietnam. If your itinerary includes destinations such as Hanoi, Da Nang, or Ho Chi Minh City, a standard Vietnam e-visa is required.

What is the best time to visit Vietnam from India to avoid the crowd?

May and September are the best months to visit Vietnam from India if you want to avoid the crowd. During this period, hotel availability is better and airfare can be more affordable compared to year-end holidays. Weather conditions vary across regions, so checking destination-specific forecasts before travel is recommended.

What is the most expensive time to plan a trip to Vietnam from India?

Vietnam’s peak tourist seasons typically fall between December and January and again from June to August. During these periods, hotel and flight prices can rise by 30–50% due to high demand driven by Lunar New Year celebrations, favourable dry weather, and school holiday travel. Booking several months in advance can help secure better rates during these periods.

Is Vietnam family-friendly?

Yes, Vietnam is a family-friendly destination with activities suitable for travellers of all ages. Families can enjoy Halong Bay cruises, Ba Na Hills, beaches in Da Nang and Nha Trang, cultural attractions, amusement parks, and scenic boat rides. Thrillophilia also offers family-focused itineraries with comfortable pacing and curated experiences.

What are the essentials that I should carry on my Vietnam trip from India?

Carry your passport, visa documents, travel insurance, photocopies of important documents, comfortable walking shoes, sunscreen, and insect repellent. An adapter, power bank, and light rain jacket are also useful, especially if you are travelling during the monsoon months or visiting multiple regions.

Do I have to learn Vietnamese before travelling to Vietnam from India?

No, learning Vietnamese is not necessary for most travellers. English is commonly understood in major tourist destinations, hotels, airports, and popular restaurants. However, knowing a few basic phrases can make local interactions easier and often enhances the overall travel experience.

In term of Vietnam trip arranged by thrillophilia, a wonderful experience of mine thought to share. Our journey through Vietnam was very well organized, comfortable, and memorable from start to finish. A special mention goes to our stay in Luxtery hotel, Da Nang, where the hotel arrangements, hospitality, cleanliness, and overall ambience exceeded our expectations. The location and comfort provided made our stay extremely relaxing and enjoyable. One of the highlights of the trip was visiting Ba Na Hills. The experience there was truly amazing — from the scenic beauty and cable car ride to the attractions and overall atmosphere. It became one... Read More

We really loved the way Team Thrillophilia assisted us with. No false promises with variety of customisation. Highly recommended for any South Asian country's trip. The best part is the local ground staff they team up with. They are truly helpful and take care of each and every single need of yours, especially with your food habit and culture. We booked a customised Vietnam trip after talking to their destination expert and I am glad we did. The itinerary was not overloaded and we got enough time to enjoy places properly instead of just rushing through attractions.

Vietnam was my husband's pick and I went without much enthusiasm. By Day 3 I was the one not wanting to leave. Thrillophilia put together an itinerary that felt personal rather than a standard package.

This is my 4th international trip with Thrillophilia and Vietnam was the best one yet. The team's ability to handle things when something goes unexpectedly is what keeps me coming back. Ha Long Bay overnight cruise, Hoi An at night with the lanterns, Hanoi Old Quarter on foot — the itinerary moved at exactly the right pace. Thank you to the whole team.

We booked a Vietnam trip with Thrillophilia for our anniversary and honestly it turned out much better than we expected. We covered Hanoi, Halong Bay, Da Nang, and Ho Chi Minh City and the itinerary was balanced not too hectic, not too slow. Hanoi was a great start. The streets had so much energy, and trying local food there was one of the best parts of the trip. Halong Bay was the highlight for us. Staying overnight on the cruise was such a different experience waking up surrounded by those limestone islands was surreal. Da Nang was more relaxed, and Ba Na Hills was actually fun despite the tourist crowd. The Golden Bridge looks even bette... Read More

Five of us from Jaipur went to Vietnam through Thrillophilia 8 days covering Hanoi, Ha Long Bay and Hoi An. Very well planned and value for money. Hanoi Old Quarter walk on the first evening motorbikes everywhere, street food at every corner, egg coffee on a rooftop watching the chaos below. Ha Long Bay overnight we woke up at 5am to see the limestone islands emerging from the mist. Nobody else was awake. 20 minutes of complete silence except the water. Hoi An lanterns at night along the Bon river one of the most beautiful evenings any of us has spent on a holiday. The hotels were well chosen at each location. Team was responsive whenever...
