Travel advice

  • You can take a flight to Kathmandu in Nepal and take a car ride or a bus ride to the Pokhara City. This is city can also be covered by foot.

  • Carry a passport with you all the time and also photocopies of all the travel documents.

  • When you visit temples and other places considered sacred and holy, avoid wearing short dresses and sleeveless tops.

  • Always remove your footwear when entering temples. Also, in a few temples non Hindus are not allowed.

  • Always trek in groups and take guided treks and camping.

  • Carry all the camping and trekking along with you as it will not be provided at the camp and trekking sites.

  • Get sufficient amount of rest before you start trekking and ensure that you are physically fit.

  • Do not accept drinks from strangers at the bars or leave them unattended.

  • You must always take care of your belongings when you travel in crowded places.

  • Do not remain in clubs or bars after midnight, as you will be detained by the cops.

  • Get warm clothes and other winter gear so you stay safe in the cold weather.

  • April and summers are the best time to visit this city.

  • Avoid taking bus rides as much as possible as there have been prone to accidents.

Drinking Laws

Do not drink in public areas or streets. Drinks are available in bars and pubs. You cannot take liquor outside the city as it is considered illegal.

Umpteen adventure activities

You have many options for adventure and water sports activities in this city. You can go on treks in the Annapurna region, go boating and canoeing, white water rafting, kayaking on the lakes and rivers of this city. You can also take lessons in learning these activities. You can also go mountain biking in Sarankot around the Phewa lake. Paragliding is also one of the popular activities that you can do in tandem and take lessons to do the same.

Caves, lakes, and museums

You can visit Phewa lake, Rupa Lake that has unspoilt waters, Begnas lake is tranquil and peaceful, Dipang lake has wild lotuses and swans, and a beautiful scenic view. There are also many viewpoints in and nearby Pokhara. You can visit the World Peace Pagoda Stupa which is at the hilltop, from where you can get a clear view of the Annapurna mountain range. Enjoy the views at Sarangkot, including the sunrise and sunset. If you want to see a herd of hanging bats, visit the Chamare Gufa - Bat cave. Opposite to the Devi Falls is the Gupteswar Mahadev Cave that is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The Gurkha Memorial Museum is a memorial dedicated to soldiers. There are umpteen centers in Pokhara where you can take ayurvedic massages, learn reiki, yoga, and other spiritual healing classes. Learn hatha yoga in the serene beauty of the mountains and greenery. There are many resorts attached to these centers where you can stay.

Shopping, nightlife, and massages

You can get the best of massages that rejuvenate your body and relieve you of stress. You can go shopping at the bazaars for souvenirs, artifacts, clothing, jewelry, fabric, spices, and more. There are umpteen options for eating, drinking in hotels, bars, and clubs. You can only party till midnight in most of the clubs and bars.

Places nearby

You can visit Kathmandu, Lumbini, and the Annapurna Sanctuary and take treks here at the hill top and get the most of your travel to this city. Lumbini is 8 to 9 hours journey from Pokhara and is the birth place of Lord Buddha. At Lumbini, you can visit the temples, stupas, museums, lakes, and go sightseeing on bikes. You will find many mid range to budgeted hotels in Lumbini. There are many places near the border of India that you can visit from Pokhara City in bus rides. Kathmandu is a city valley which you can visit for numerous temples and adventure sports. You can attend their local festivals and also take up flight seeing, getting a top view of the mountains. You can also visit the Riverside Springs Resort that is 100 kilometers from Pokhara City.

Annapurna Base Camp Trekking was an awesome event and one in life time memory! I loved the natue, guide, and porter's care, good communication from Thrillophilia, the hotel, food, local community. Will go for trekking next year again. And will book my trekking from Thrillophilia for sure!

It was great experience at ABC ..............Thrillophilia staff was great help as well as local staff at Pokhra ..............Trek is little tough due staircase on first three days........weather was great and enjoyed the trek........Thanks to Mr Saurabh for guidence........
