How to Reach Italy from India

Italy is well connected to India through direct as well as one-stop flights, making it one of the easiest European destinations to reach. Most travellers book flights to Rome, Milan, or Venice, depending on their itinerary, with Rome being the most common arrival city for first-time visitors.

  • Direct Flights: Air India and ITA Airways operate non-stop flights between Delhi (DEL) and Rome (FCO). The average flight duration is 8.5 to 9 hours.
  • One-stop Flights: Travellers flying from Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Kochi, and other Indian cities can easily reach Italy with one stop via Dubai, Doha, Abu Dhabi, Istanbul, Frankfurt, Munich, Paris, or Zurich.
  • Major Airports in Italy: Most Italy tour packages begin in Rome (Leonardo da Vinci–Fiumicino Airport) or Milan (Malpensa Airport). Venice, Florence, Naples, and Pisa are also well connected through domestic and international flights.
  • Average Flight Cost: Return airfares from India to Italy generally range between INR 45,000 and INR 95,000 per person, depending on the departure city, airline, season, and booking window.
  • Getting Around Italy: Italy's high-speed rail network makes travelling between Rome, Florence, Venice, Milan, Naples, and other major cities quick and convenient. Most Thrillophilia Italy tour packages already include these intercity transfers, allowing you to explore multiple destinations without worrying about transport.

Visa Fee and Processing Time

As of June 2026, the Schengen visa fee is currently €90 for adults (approximately INR 9,000-10,000 depending on exchange rates), plus applicable VFS service charges totalling INR 9630 per adult. For children aged 6 to 12, the fee is INR 4,820, and children below 6 are exempt. Standard processing takes 15 to 20 working days after submission of complete documents, though this can extend to 6 to 8 weeks during peak travel periods. It is best to apply at least 6 to 8 weeks before your planned departure.

Biometrics and document submission must be done in person at a VFS Global centre, with locations across major Indian cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, and Hyderabad.

Thrillophilia Visa Support

Thrillophilia provides hotel vouchers, day-by-day itinerary documents, intercity transport confirmations, and a complete pre-departure document checklist for all Italy package bookings. While we do not submit the visa application on your behalf, we make sure your documentation is in the exact format required for a smooth Schengen application.

Best Places to Visit in Italy

Italy is compact compared to most countries, but each city has its own personality, and most Italy tour packages from India are built around a handful of these highlights.

Rome: The Eternal City and Most Common Starting Point

Rome is where most Italy trips from India begin, and it easily deserves two to three days on its own. The Colosseum and Roman Forum take you straight into ancient history, while Vatican City, a separate sovereign state within Rome, is home to St. Peter's Basilica and the Sistine Chapel with Michelangelo's famous ceiling.

  • Colosseum entry Fee: Around INR 1,800 to 2,500 per person, with skip-the-line tickets costing more
  • Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel Entry: Around INR 2,000 to 3,000 per person
  • Do not miss: An evening walk to the Trevi Fountain and the Spanish Steps, which are free to visit and beautifully lit at night

Florence: The Heart of the Renaissance

Florence is often the second stop on an Italy itinerary and is best known for its art and architecture. The Uffizi Gallery houses works by Botticelli and Michelangelo, while the Duomo, with its famous red dome, dominates the city skyline.

  • Uffizi Gallery Entry: Around INR 2,000 to 2,800 per person
  • Climbing the Duomo's Dome: Around INR 1,800 to 2,200 per person, advance booking recommended
  • Local Tip: A short walk across the Ponte Vecchio bridge at sunset is one of the simplest and most memorable things to do in Florence

Venice: Canals, Gondolas, and Island Hopping

Venice is unlike anywhere else in Italy, built across a network of canals with no cars allowed in the historic centre. St. Mark's Square, the Doge's Palace, and a gondola ride through the smaller canals are the highlights most travellers plan around.

  • Gondola ride cost: Around INR 7,000 to 9,000 for a shared 30-minute ride, often higher for private rides
  • Doge's Palace entry: Around INR 2,200 to 2,800 per person
  • Day trip option: Murano and Burano islands, known for glassmaking and colourful houses, are a short vaporetto (water bus) ride away

Milan: Fashion, Design, and a Gateway to the Alps

Milan is often included as an arrival or departure city, but it has plenty to offer on its own, from the stunning Milan Cathedral (Duomo di Milano) to the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II shopping arcade. It is also the gateway for day trips to Lake Como, one of Italy's most scenic lake destinations.

  • Milan Cathedral entry, including rooftop access: Around INR 2,500 to 3,500 per person
  • Lake Como day trip: A popular add-on for travellers with an extra day, usually arranged as a private or shared excursion

Pisa and the Amalfi Coast: Popular Day Trips and Extensions

Pisa, famous for its Leaning Tower, is usually visited as a half-day stop between Florence and other cities. The Amalfi Coast, with towns like Sorrento, Positano, and Amalfi, is often added as an extension for travellers who want coastal scenery and a slower pace toward the end of their trip. As per Thrillophilia, families love this experience and it also is included in the Italy family tour package.

  • Leaning Tower of Pisa entry: Around INR 2,000 to 2,500 per person to climb
  • Amalfi Coast: Best added as a 2 to 3 day extension after Rome, often combined with a Naples or Sorrento base

At Thrillophilia, we believe that some journeys stay with you long after you return home, not because of the places you visit alone, but because of the memories you create along the way. Reflecting on her Italy holiday, Ananya Rao, who booked the Iconic Italy | Group Tour Package in April 2026, shared that “Italy is everything that we see on social media, from Rome's Colosseum and Florence's world-renowned art galleries to Venice's picturesque canals, all in one trip.” She particularly appreciated the well-paced itinerary, noting that it allowed her to experience the country's most iconic destinations comfortably without ever feeling rushed or exhausted at the end of the day.

Best Time to Visit Italy from India

Italy can be visited throughout the year, but the best time depends on the kind of experience you want. While summer is perfect for coastal destinations and beach holidays, spring and autumn offer pleasant weather and fewer crowds. For most Indian travellers, April to June and September to October are considered the best months to visit Italy.

Spring (April to May)

Spring brings pleasant temperatures between 12°C and 22°C, making it one of the best times for sightseeing. Parks and countryside areas are full of flowers, and cities like Rome, Florence, and Venice are comfortable to explore on foot. Crowds are moderate compared to summer, and the weather is ideal for outdoor activities.

Summer (June to August)

Summer is Italy's peak tourist season, with temperatures ranging from 20°C to 32°C. It is the best time to visit destinations like the Amalfi Coast, Lake Como, Cinque Terre, and Sicily. Days are longer, and most tourist services operate at full capacity. However, popular attractions can be crowded, and hotel prices are usually at their highest.

Autumn (September to October)

Autumn offers comfortable temperatures between 14°C and 24°C and is a favourite season among many travellers. The weather remains pleasant, crowds begin to reduce, and the countryside looks beautiful during the grape harvest season. It is an excellent time for sightseeing, food experiences, and exploring regions like Tuscany.

Winter (November to March)

Winter is the quietest season, with temperatures ranging from 2°C to 12°C. Travellers can enjoy lower hotel prices and fewer crowds at major attractions. December is especially festive, with Christmas markets and holiday decorations across many cities. Northern Italy is also popular for skiing during this time.

Food in Italy: A Guide for Indian Travellers

Food is one of the best parts of visiting Italy. From fresh pasta and pizza to delicious desserts, there is something for everyone. Indian travellers will also find plenty of vegetarian and Indian food options in major cities.

What to Try

  • Pasta is a staple of Italian cuisine, and different regions have their own special recipes. In Rome, popular choices include Carbonara and Cacio e Pepe, while the Liguria region is known for its fresh pesto pasta.
  • Pizza is a must-try during your trip. Naples is the birthplace of the famous Neapolitan pizza, known for its soft base and fresh ingredients. Popular places include L'Antica Pizzeria da Michele and Sorbillo.
  • Gelato, Italy's version of ice cream, is available almost everywhere. You can find excellent gelato at famous shops such as Giolitti in Rome and Venchi, which has stores in several cities.
  • Tiramisu, a classic Italian dessert made with coffee and cream, is another favourite among visitors. Pompi in Rome is well known for serving this popular dessert.
  • Italy is also famous for its coffee culture. A quick espresso at a local café is a simple way to experience everyday Italian life.

Vegetarian and Indian Food Options

Vegetarian travellers generally find Italy easy to manage. Many restaurants serve vegetarian pizzas, pasta dishes, risotto, soups, and salads. You can also ask for dishes to be prepared without meat.

If you are craving Indian food, you will find several Indian restaurants in major cities:

  • Rome: Indian Affairs, Jaipur Restaurant, Maharajah Restaurant
  • Florence: Haveli Indian Restaurant, Royal India
  • Venice: Buddha Soul Restò, Ganesh Ji Indian Restaurant
  • Milan: Rangoli Indian Restaurant, Shalimar Restaurant

These restaurants serve popular Indian dishes such as curries, naan, biryani, and vegetarian meals.

If you have any dietary preferences, it is a good idea to inform your hotel, tour guide, or tour operator in advance. Most restaurants included in guided tours can arrange vegetarian meals when notified beforehand. This helps make your dining experience more comfortable throughout your Italy trip.

Italy Travel & Safety Tips for Indian Travellers

Italy is generally a safe destination for tourists, but a few simple precautions can help make your trip smoother and more enjoyable.

  • Be alert for pickpockets in crowded areas such as Rome's Termini Station, the Vatican area, and busy vaporetto routes in Venice.
  • Keep your passport, visa documents, and travel insurance details separate from your wallet and store them in a secure place.
  • Validate regional train tickets at station machines before boarding, as unvalidated tickets can result in fines.
  • Many Italian cities charge a tourist tax that is paid directly at the hotel, so keep some small euro notes or coins handy.
  • Tap water is safe to drink in most Italian cities, including public fountains marked as potable.
  • Follow dress codes when visiting religious sites such as St. Peter's Basilica and the Vatican Museums. Shoulders and knees should be covered for entry.

Awesome europe tour for 11 days in which we were able to cover(Paris, swiss and Italy ) almost 14 cities most of the must visit places . Thanks to the Thrillophilia tours. A customised and a detailed itinerary was made for us at very reasonable cost in a very short time. The stay was lovely and at a very convenient location that we could catch the local trains to all our destinations without much trouble. We had plenty of time to ourselves which we used for visiting some beautiful places other than the tourist attractions. But few critical issues given below when we move one country to other it would be better if you arrange transportation from railway station to the hotel as it was challenge as we don not know the geography and need to struggle to reach the room. In our rome itenary it was unfortunate the great collosiam (one of seven wonders) was not there ..thank God we noticed and reserved the ticket and went on our own and similarly David Michelangelo statue was also not there in the itenary.🚩🚩 So when you do customisation and make a private tour for clients *provide them the list of places in each city* and ask them which they need to do visit .🚩 And do check which days the monument are closed and advise the client and accordingly make the itenary..we missed few due to this as it was closed . I would a recommend Thrillophilia tours for those who are visiting europe provided you take care of the above mentioned points and I’m sure they will have trip a memorable one. Regards Balachandar.

Thrillophilia did a good job in organizing Europe tool with mostly all places covered. It was a great experience and the group was nice. Though it was a short trip but if Mt tetlis was covered, it would have become even better. Buses were good, hotels were great and overall experience is just awesome. Thanks to thriliophilia staff especially Jatin for supporting even during his off hours.

Thanks a lot to Divya from sales team with whom I started interaction, shared my requirements, she had very less time to plan but she accommodated best possible options for me Thanks. to Pankaj from operations who ensured all this are executed on ground and he kept checking if things are going as plan and responded to queries I had any. Thanks a lot all who worked in background to make this trip arrangements for me.

Booked: Paris To Rome 10 Nights 11 Days
