Shravanabelagola is surrounded by two hillocks namely Chandagiri and Indragiri. Shravanabelagola is an important religious place for Jain followers. The Chandragupta basadi and the Parashwanath basadi are supposedly the biggest of all in the Chandragiri. Beneath the spot is "Jain Math", where the walls are painted with historical stories.

The Odegal basadi, Chauvvisa Tirthankari basadi, Siddhara basadi and Chennanna basadi were put up here. The visitors can also find a carved called Tyagada Brahma Pillar, which boasts of fantastic floral paintings. There are over 500 inscriptions with some of them describing the death of the starved.
