Darjeeling Rangit Valley Ropeway
The ropeway was started in 1968 by the forest development department and comprised of one car running one way. 16 cars running to and fro were introduced later. The
Darjeeling Ropeway connects Darjeeling with Bijanbari, a small town down in the little Rangeet Valley.
This is one of the best place for
trekking in India, which runs close to The Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park. From an elevation of 7,000 ft in
Darjeeling North Point, a bicable passenger ropeway, decends to 800 ft. at Singla carrying 6 people at a time.
The 4,620 mts span is the biggest and longest ropeway in India. This ride becomes enjoyable as on views lush green tea gardens, which appear as a green carpet covering the landscape. This bicable passenger-carrying ropeway is the largest of its kind in Asia.
Everest Singalila Trek and
Khangchendzonga Trek are two other exciting treks possible in Darjeeling, which attracts many tourists around the year.

Places of interest in the vicinity are Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park. There are a number of tourists spots in and around Darjeeling like The Japanese Pagoda, the Passenger ropeway connecting North Point and Singla Bazaar, Tiger hills.
This ropeway was stopped in October 2003 because 4 tourists died as the cables snapped. In the year 2005, The State Forest and Public Works Department(PWD) ministers established a three member committee to look after the safety of the ropeway.
To reach the Ropeway Station one can hire shared Taxis from the Market Motor.
