Located between Chandigarh and Shimla, the town of Solan is named after the Hindu Goddess Shoolini Devi. Owing to its production of raw materials, Solan has received a number of nicknames over the years, such as the City of Red Gold for its production of tomatoes.

Trekking and camping are some of the most popular activities in Solan, with destinations such as Barog or Chaili offering the perfect spot for the same. The town is also famous for two of the most popular fairs of the state- the three-day Shoolini Fair, and the Sair Festival held in the Arki Fort, which is known for its conduction of bullfights.
Owing to its moderate and hospital climate, Solan is one of the most popular places to visit in Himachal Pradesh. The temperature remains high throughout the summer months, with frequent rainfall. The winter here is relatively pleasant and cool, with the temperature rarely falling below 5 degrees Celsius.
