Shillong Packages

Reviewed by Thrillophilia Shillong Operations Team

Updated as of June 2026

Shillong tour packages start from around INR 15,500 per person for a 6-day trip and can go up to INR 42,500 per person for longer 10-day Northeast India tours covering Meghalaya, Assam, and Arunachal Pradesh. With regular flights to Guwahati Airport from Delhi, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Mumbai, and other major cities, Shillong is one of the most easily accessible hill destinations in Northeast India.

Our Shillong tour packages offer much more than just a city visit. Known for its pleasant weather, scenic hills, pine forests, and vibrant Khasi culture, Shillong is the perfect base for exploring Meghalaya’s top attractions. Most itineraries include popular sightseeing spots such as Shillong Peak, Elephant Falls, Umiam Lake, Ward’s Lake, and Laitlum Canyons, giving travellers a complete experience of the region.

One of the biggest advantages of choosing a Shillong tour package is the chance to explore nearby destinations. Just a few hours away, you can visit the crystal-clear Umngot River in Dawki, discover Mawlynnong, often called Asia’s cleanest village, and trek to the famous Living Root Bridges of Nongriat, which have been naturally shaped over centuries. Many itineraries also include Cherrapunji, known for its stunning waterfalls, fascinating caves, and lush green landscapes.

Thrillophilia offers 20+ Shillong tour packages for couples, families, solo travellers, groups, and adventure seekers. These thoughtfully designed packages cover Shillong’s must-visit attractions while showcasing the best of Meghalaya. Each package includes comfortable accommodation, private transportation, daily breakfast, guided sightseeing, and 24/7 on-ground support, ensuring a smooth and memorable travel experience.

Shillong Trip Cost: Realistic Budget Breakdown

A Shillong holiday package cost depends mainly on the number of days, your hotel category, whether you choose a private or shared vehicle, and the overall route. Transport and logistics account for nearly 60 to 70 per cent of the total Meghalaya trip cost, since all travel is road-based from Guwahati. Here is a full breakdown across package types and daily expenses, verified as of June 2026.

What Makes Shillong Tour Package Prices Go Up or Down

The price of a Shillong trip package can vary based on the destinations included, transportation preferences, travel season, and accommodation choices.

  • Route and Destination Coverage: Packages focused only on Shillong are generally more affordable than itineraries that also include Cherrapunji, Dawki, and Mawlynnong. Adding destinations like Kaziranga or Arunachal Pradesh further increases the overall cost.
  • Type of Transportation: Private cabs offer greater comfort and flexibility for exploring Meghalaya's hill roads. While shared vehicles are more cost-effective, private transportation can add around INR 2,000-3,000 per day to the package cost.
  • Travel Season: Prices are usually higher during peak tourist seasons and long holiday periods when demand for hotels and transportation increases.
  • Hotel Category: Choice of accommodation affects the overall package cost, though the price difference between budget and mid-range hotels in Shillong is usually smaller than in many other hill stations.
  • Trip Duration: Longer itineraries covering multiple destinations naturally cost more due to additional accommodation, transportation, and sightseeing expenses.

How to Reach Shillong from Major Indian Cities

Guwahati is the main gateway for travelling to Shillong. Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (GAU) in Guwahati has regular flights from major cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad. From the airport, Shillong is about 119 km away and can be reached in around 3 hours by private cab or shared taxi via NH6. Thrillophilia primarily provides airport transfers and cab services as part of a larger, multi-day holiday or sightseeing package in Meghalaya. However, we do not typically offer standalone, point-to-point taxi bookings just for the airport to Shillong route.

Shillong Airport at Umroi is located about 31 km from the city. It has limited flight services, with airlines like IndiGo operating select routes. If a direct flight to Umroi matches your travel dates, it can help save a lot of travel time. However, Guwahati Airport remains the most convenient and reliable option for most travellers.

For those travelling by train, Guwahati Junction is the nearest major railway station, located around 96 km from Shillong. It is well-connected to Delhi, Kolkata, and several other cities. From the station, taxis and shared vehicles are easily available to reach Shillong.

Route

Approx. 3 hours

Thrillophilia Tip: Book your Guwahati to Shillong transfer in advance. You can get stuck in traffic during weekends and peak tourist seasons. A pre-arranged private cab through Thrillophilia makes your journey smoother and more convenient from the moment you arrive.

Top Places to Visit on Your Shillong Trip

Shillong is surrounded by beautiful lakes, waterfalls, viewpoints, and cultural attractions, making it an ideal destination for nature lovers and sightseeing enthusiasts. Here are some of the top places to visit during your Shillong trip.

Shillong City and Surroundings

Shillong Peak: The Highest Viewpoint in the City

At 1,965 metres above sea level, Shillong Peak is the highest road-accessible point in the city. On clear days, it offers stunning panoramic views of Shillong and the surrounding hills and valleys. Managed by the Indian Air Force, the viewpoint provides a great opportunity to admire Meghalaya’s beautiful landscapes from above.

Best for: First-timers and photography enthusiasts

Entry Fee: INR 20 to 50 per person (subject to change based on IAF access rules)

Thrillophilia Tip: Visit between 8 am and 10 am for the clearest views before clouds settle in. Afternoon fog is common and can completely block the views.

Ward's Lake: Calm in the Middle of the City

A well-maintained artificial lake in the heart of Shillong, Ward's Lake, is one of the most peaceful spots in the city. Surrounded by manicured gardens and a wooden bridge, it is a good spot to spend an hour in the morning before the day's sightseeing begins. Boating is available at modest rates.

Best for: Families, couples, and slow-paced travellers

Entry Fee: INR 10 to 20 per person. Boating is separately charged.

Thrillophilia Tip: Visit around 10:00 am to enjoy a quieter atmosphere. The gardens look especially beautiful between October and March.

Don Bosco Museum: The Best Regional Museum in Northeast India

The Don Bosco Centre for Indigenous Cultures is one of the most popular museums in Shillong. Spread across seven floors, it showcases the traditions, history, and lifestyle of the people from all eight northeastern states of India. With its informative exhibits and well-organised displays, it is a great place to learn more about the region's rich cultural heritage.

Best for: History and culture enthusiasts, families with older children

Entry Fee: INR 100 per adult, INR 50 per child (approximate; confirm at entry)

Thrillophilia Tip: Set aside a few hours to explore the museum properly. You can also combine your visit with a walk around the nearby heritage area.

Elephant Falls: The Classic Half-Day Trip

A three-tier waterfall located around 12 km from central Shillong, Elephant Falls is one of the most visited natural attractions in Shillong. The walk down to the falls is short and easy, and the lower tiers are the most photogenic. Best visited during or just after the monsoon season, when the waterfall is at its most impressive.

Entry Fee: INR 20 per person (approximate)

Thrillophilia Tip: Combine your visit with other Shillong attractions such as Shillong Peak and the Heritage Walk for a more fulfilling day of sightseeing.

Best Shillong Experiences to Include in Your Package

Beyond its famous viewpoints and waterfalls, Shillong offers a range of unique experiences that allow travellers to connect more deeply with the city’s history, culture, music, and nearby natural wonders. Consider adding these memorable activities to make your Shillong tour even more rewarding.

Shillong Heritage Walk: An Underrated Experience

Shillong’s heritage area is home to British-era buildings, historic churches, and colonial architecture that many visitors pass by without exploring. A guided heritage walk, usually lasting 2 to 3 hours, helps you understand how Shillong developed from a British hill station into the capital of Meghalaya. It remains one of the most underrated experiences in the city.

Thrillophilia Tip: Add a guided heritage walk to your Shillong city tour. Exploring the area with a local guide provides valuable insights and a much richer experience

.

Live Music at Shillong Cafes

Shillong is known for its vibrant rock and folk music culture, making it unlike most other hill stations in India. Many cafes and small venues host live performances by local bands, especially on weekends. The city has also produced several nationally recognised musicians. If you're visiting on a Friday or Saturday, check with your hotel or Thrillophilia support team for recommendations in the Laitumkhrah and Police Bazaar areas.

Kaziranga Safari: The Perfect Wildlife Extension

For travellers looking to extend their Shillong holiday, Kaziranga National Park is one of the best options. Located about 5 to 6 hours from Shillong, the park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, recognised in 1985, and is famous for having the world's highest population density of one-horned rhinoceroses.

Early morning jeep safaris offer the best wildlife viewing opportunities. Thrillophilia’s combined Kaziranga and Meghalaya packages start from INR 25,300 per person for a 7-day itinerary.

Kaziranga Jeep Safari Fee: INR 2,500 to 5,000 per person, depending on the safari zone and session.

Best For: Wildlife lovers, families, and travellers planning longer itineraries.

Best Time to Visit Shillong

Shillong can be visited throughout the year, but each season offers a different experience. The best time to visit depends on whether you prefer pleasant weather, lush landscapes, waterfalls, or lower travel costs.

October to April: Pleasant Weather and Easy Sightseeing

This is the most comfortable time to visit Shillong. The weather is pleasant, the skies are clearer, the roads are in good condition, and all major attractions are easily accessible. Between December and January, the city becomes especially lively with Christmas and New Year celebrations, cool weather, and a vibrant live music scene.

Temperature: 5°C to 20°C (cooler nights from October to February)

Best For: Families, couples, first-time visitors, and travellers looking for pleasant weather

Thrillophilia Insight: This is Meghalaya’s peak tourist season. For travel during December and January, it is best to book at least 3 months in advance.

May to June: Greener Landscapes and Fewer Crowds

As Shillong transitions into the pre-monsoon season, the hills become greener and more scenic. Light rainfall is common, but most sightseeing activities continue without disruption. Hotels are generally more affordable compared to the peak season.

Temperature: 15°C to 25°C

Best For: Budget travellers and solo travellers looking for a quieter experience

July to September: Monsoon and Waterfall Season

If you love nature, the monsoon is a great time to visit Shillong. The landscapes are fresh and green, and famous waterfalls like Nohkalikai Falls are at their most impressive. Be prepared for occasional rain-related delays and reduced visibility on some roads.

Temperature: 17°C to 25°C

Best For: Nature lovers, photographers, and travellers visiting specifically for the waterfalls

Thrillophilia Insight: Keep your monsoon Shillong tour itinerary flexible, as road conditions between Shillong and Sohra can change quickly during heavy rain.

December to February: Cold, Festive, and Memorable

Winter brings chilly mornings and evenings, with temperatures sometimes dropping to 2°C to 4°C at night. While Shillong does not receive heavy snowfall, the festive atmosphere during Christmas and New Year makes it one of the most enjoyable times to visit. Warm clothing is essential.

Temperature: 2°C to 15°C

Best For: Travellers who enjoy cool weather, festive celebrations, and a unique hill-station experience

Thrillophilia Insight: This is one of the most highly recommended travel periods by the Shillong Operations Team due to its festive energy and pleasant sightseeing conditions.

Shillong Food Guide

Shillong offers a mix of traditional Khasi cuisine, popular street food, and vibrant cafés. Don't miss local favourites like Jadoh, Dohneiiong, Tungrymbai, and Pukhlein for an authentic taste of Meghalaya. For dining, Laitumkhrah is known for its trendy cafés and live music, while Police Bazaar offers a wide variety of local and international food options. Whether you're a foodie or a casual traveller, Shillong's food scene is worth exploring.

Shillong Travel Essentials for Indian Travellers

A little preparation can make your Shillong tour much smoother and more enjoyable. From choosing the right area to stay and understanding local connectivity to packing for the season, these essential tips will help you travel comfortably and make the most of your holidays.

Best Areas to Stay in Shillong

Where you stay in Shillong can have a big impact on your trip. Choosing the right area helps you spend less time travelling and more time exploring the city.

Police Bazaar and Central Shillong: This is the best area for convenience. Most restaurants, shops, and transport options are within walking distance. While it can be busy and crowded, it is ideal for travellers staying in Shillong for 2 to 3 nights.

Laitumkhrah and Lachumiere: These neighbourhoods offer a quieter and more relaxed atmosphere. They are known for their popular cafes and restaurants and are perfect for travellers who want to enjoy Shillong without the hustle and bustle of Police Bazaar.

Outskirts and Scenic View Stays: Hotels on the outskirts offer peaceful surroundings, pine forests, and beautiful views. However, reaching city attractions takes longer and usually requires more cab rides. These stays are best suited for 4 to 5-night trips where relaxation is a priority.

Currency and Payments

Most hotels, restaurants, and larger businesses in Shillong accept UPI payments and cards. However, many roadside shops, attraction entry points, and local operators in places like Dawki and Mawlynnong may only accept cash. It is a good idea to carry enough cash for day trips outside the city.

Connectivity and SIM Cards

Mobile networks work well in Shillong city. In remote parts of Meghalaya, BSNL often provides better coverage than some private operators. If you are visiting places like Nongriat, the Dawki Valley, or remote areas of the Khasi Hills, download offline maps in advance, as network coverage can be limited.

Permits

Indian citizens do not need any special permits to visit Shillong, Cherrapunji, Dawki, or Mawlynnong. You will only need a valid government-issued photo ID for hotel check-ins.

Packing by Season

October to April: Light to medium layers, warm jacket for evenings, comfortable walking shoes, waterproof jacket for unpredictable showers

December to February: Heavyweight jacket, thermals, gloves, warm socks, scarf

May to September: Good quality raincoat or poncho, waterproof shoes, quick-dry clothing, insect repellent

Highly recommended. We were a large family of 10 members, including children & aged parents & who booked package for Meghalaya & Shillong experiences. The host & their team where real caring, be it food, guidance, knowledge of local must things to do & we felt very homely. The homestay was excellent for cleanliness, hospitability, being tucked away from the chaos of the city, yet easily accessible to all amenities. Everyone of family were highly indebted to this wonderful hospitality & experience.

This was my first ever tour to North East India. I usually plan and execute all the tours for my family on my own. But since I'd never been to NE India, I was in a fix whether to plan and proceed on my own or to book through a travel company. Finally we decided to book through Thrillophillia and it turned out that the tour was well organized and executed.. The itinerary for each day was clear and easy to follow. The driver was polite, friendly and knowledgeable. He knew our itinerary and ensured we covered all the points as promised. The Thrillophillia team connected in a timely manner whenever required. This was my first package tour and I'm happy with how everything was taken care of. Many thanks to team Thrillophillia, Albert and Bikram. Happy to have connected with you all for this tour. Looking forward to many more trips with you.

I was very skeptical at first, about traveling to a lesser explored north-eastern, primarily tribal state, Meghalaya, that too with a bunch of strangers. People were warning me before my trip about earthquakes, land slides, bizarre foods, tribal arrogance, and all those things that might take a wrong turn. And now that I have completed this amazing trip, let me share my views. I met strangers on the trip, and those were the most caring and kind ones I'll ever meet. The views were all breathtaking. Everytime we stopped by a waterfall, we couldn't resist the urge to get in the cold, clean water. We visited the national border along Bangladesh, met with a lot of new people, explored uncharted territories, and trek through the Meghalayan landscape in the dark, we tasted some of the best food we have ever tasted, we danced and talked our hearts out and lastly bid a warm welcome, with a promise to meet again someday. Memories were created and will last forever

Trip was an excellent time away from the busy schedule. We covered all the desitinations which were mentioned in the iteniery. Our driver Pinku Deka was alway on time and helpful with local information. We had left our hiking stick behind which he arranged to be collected by his local network. All the hotels were nice and clean. While going to visit the Arwah caves do carry your torches with you to see the fossils, for Nongriat trek it is advisable to carry a hiking stick even though you would get a bamboo sticks to buy.. I would gladly recommend thrillophilia if you are planning your next trip

The trip was beautifully planned and we had a wonderful time. The local driver was very helpful, punctual and professional and took extra efforts to make our trip wonderful. A truly memorable holiday! Unfortunately, the Umngot River was not pristine as advertised, but this was due to the pollution caused by the ongoing major highway construction work on the Shillong-Dawki highway. Thank you very much for an amazing holiday!

The trip was well planned by the team. The local commute was well organised, the driver had good knowledge about the place and was polite. Accomodation places were very well maintained. With good connectivity and food. We had visited many hidden waterfalls thanks to our driver who made it point to inform and take us to beautiful hidden gems of meghalaya and local food delicacies. The double decker trecking was very good, it might be challenging for few ppl but try to take a extra mile to go to Blue Lagoon which is worth the treak and carry an extra pair of swimming costumes to take a dip at the extraordinary spots. Best time to travel: November starting to December.
