It was our first big holiday as a couple and we are thankful to Thrillophilia for making it so special and memorable. All the spots were covered properly - Cellular Jail light and sound show, Havelock Island, Neil Island, Radhanagar beach. Everything was on schedule with proper time at each place. Our coordinator shared full details on WhatsApp one day before every activity so we always knew what to expect next. Scuba diving at Havelock was a completely new experience for both of us and the instructors were very patient with first-timers. Radhanagar beach at sunset is something no photograph can capture properly. Hotel was clean and comfor... Read More

Cellular Jail sound and light show was something I was not prepared for emotionally. The names being read out, the lights on the wing corridors, people around me quietly crying. The rest of the trip Havelock, Neil Island, the underwater world was beautiful. But that one hour at Cellular Jail was different. Andaman is a must visit and learn that the freedom we got was not easy.

Baratang Island is the Andamans at its most raw and untouched - far from the usual Havelock tourist crowd. The boat through dense mangrove forest to reach the limestone caves feels like a proper jungle expedition.

Andaman honeymoon trip feels like a private paradise compared to any Goa visit. Scuba diving first experience was handled so professionally and safely. Ekdum romantic sunset cruise included in the package was wonderful. Every couple planning a honeymoon in India must consider Andaman over anywhere else!

Money-saving tips

Thrillophilia recommends following the below money-saving tips to book cheap Andaman tour packages.

  • Book Andaman trip packages at least 45 days in advance, especially during the peak season, before ferries and hotels sell out.
  • Travel during the shoulder season, from April to May, when packages are 20 to 30 per cent cheaper than in the peak season.
  • Choose government ferries over private operators for inter-island transfers. While government ferries charge INR 400 to INR 800, private ferry tickets cost INR 1500 to INR 2500 per leg.
  • Average Andaman trip durations have stretched from 6.2 to 8.4 nights as travellers add Neil Island and Baratang to standard itineraries. Hence, we recommend staying in Port Blair for budget nights rather than spending on beachfront accommodation in Havelock.

Note: In our post trip data of 2025, we found that honeymoon couples in Andaman are spending an average of INR 1.05 lakh per trip, with the majority staying at beachfront properties on Havelock.

How to Reach Andaman

Reaching Andaman is fairly easy from most parts of India. Many Andaman holiday packages from Thrillophilia include flights, as it is the fastest and most convenient way to reach the islands.

By Air: Veer Savarkar International Airport (IXZ) in Port Blair is the major airport in Andaman. Direct and connecting flights operate from major Indian cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad. Popular airlines operating on these routes are IndiGo, SpiceJet, Air India, and Air India Express. Thrillophilia’s Andaman and Nicobar Islands tour packages usually include airport transfers to ensure a smooth arrival experience in Port Blair.

By Sea: Passenger ships operate to Port Blair from Chennai, Kolkata, and Visakhapatnam. These journeys take several days and are usually preferred by travellers seeking a long-distance sea travel experience. MV Nicobar and MV Swaraj Dweep are some of the renowned cruises that sail to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Inter-island ferry transfer

Our Andaman holiday packages provide inter-island ferries for smooth transfers between all the destinations in the itinerary. Book these ferries at least 2 to 3 weeks in advance during the peak season from December to January.

  • To reach Havelock from Port Blair, you can book an AC ferry from private operators like Makruzz, Nautika, and Green Ocean. These ferries take about 90 minutes to reach Havelock and charge INR 1,200 to INR 2,500 per person.
  • You can also book tickets on a government ferry at the jetty for INR 400 to INR 800 to reach Havelock. These ferries have only limited daily sailings and take about 2.5 hours to travel from Port Blair.

Do You Need a Permit to Visit Andaman?

Entry requirements for visiting the Andaman Islands are simple, making it an easily accessible destination for both Indian and international travellers.

  • Indian nationals do not require any special permit to book Andaman Nicobar tour packages which include Port Blair, Havelock Island, Neil Island, Ross Island and Baratang Island. However, it is necessary to carry a valid government-issued photo ID, as it may be required at hotels, ferry terminals, and security checkpoints.
  • Foreign nationals must obtain a Restricted Area Permit (RAP) to enter the Andaman Islands. This permit is issued free of cost on arrival at Port Blair airport. It is valid for up to 30 days and covers most tourist-accessible areas.
  • There are also restricted areas in Andaman tour packages that are completely prohibited to visitors. Certain regions on North Sentinel Island are completely off-limits to protect indigenous tribes such as the Sentinelese. Similarly, areas inhabited by the Jarawa tribe are also protected, and tourists cannot enter or interact with these communities.
  • To ensure a smooth trip, carry these essential documents at all times:
  • a valid photo ID
  • hotel booking confirmation
  • ferry tickets (digital copies are accepted)
  • travel insurance to cover unexpected delays or medical needs

When should you visit Andaman? (Month-by-Month Guide)

The best time to plan a trip to Andaman is between October and May, when the weather and sea conditions remain best suited for island travel. This period supports smooth ferry movement, outdoor sightseeing, and water-based experiences that are commonly included in Andaman Nicobar tour.

  • October to November: During these months, the weather is ‌warm and starts clearing up after the monsoon. The average temperature ranges between 26°C and 30°C, while the sea conditions gradually improve, offering a visibility of around 10 to 20 metres. Most water sports, including diving and snorkelling, are open during this time. Since it is a shoulder season, the crowd level is low to medium, with the prices of hotels and ferries being nominal.
  • December to February: It is the peak season with ‌dry weather and a comfortable average temperature of 22°C to 30°C. The sea conditions and visibility are excellent up to 20 to 30 metres. All the water sports are open during this time, and dive centres are heavily crowded. Since the prices are higher, it is recommended to book hotels, ferries and activities early before they sell out.
  • March to May: The weather is warm with increasing levels of humidity and good sea conditions with a visibility of 15 to 25 metres. Most activities are available with fewer crowds. The cost of accommodation and ferry tickets is also low during this period.
  • June to September: The monsoon season brings heavy rainfall of 300 mm to 400 mm per month. Only one or two ferries run every day, as sea conditions are rough. Dive centres are shut, and other water activities are severely limited. Since it is the off-season, all the islands are less crowded.

Note:

  • Jolly Buoy Island is closed from June to September.
  • Shoulder season (April to May) packages are 20 to 30% cheaper than in the peak season (December to January).
  • Ferry cancellations can strand you on Havelock for an extra 1–2 days during monsoon, so not recommended for first-time visitors.

  2. Ferry precautions: Book early and keep buffer time between transfers

Thrillophilia’s Traveller Note

Neha Shah who travelled from Mumbai and booked Romantic Escape to Andaman | Beaches, Sunsets & Island Bliss and said, “I travelled with my family for an Andaman vacation and the trip was well planned. The ferry transfers between islands were smooth and the hotel stay was very comfortable. We enjoyed the local food and the relaxed atmosphere throughout the trip. The schedule was balanced, so we had enough time to rest and explore at our own pace.”

Off-beat places

Beyond well-known beaches and popular islands, there are several experiences in the Andaman that feel raw, quiet, and deeply personal. If you want your Andaman trip to feel different from a typical island holiday, these unique places in Andaman are worth visiting.

Kala Pathar Beach, Swaraj Dweep: The black volcanic rocks along the shore of the beach create a striking contrast against the clear blue waters, creating a beautiful scene. The waves are stronger here, making it better suited for walks and photography rather than swimming.

  • How to reach: Board a ferry from Port Blair to Havelock and then hire a cab to reach ‌Kala Pathar Beach in 15 to 20 minutes.
  • Permits: Indian nationals do not need a special permit, but foreign travellers must carry a Restricted Area Permit (RAP)
  • Best season: October to November and February to March

Little Andaman: Known for pristine beaches like Butler Bay, waterfalls like Whisper Wave and a quiet atmosphere, Little Andaman is a hidden gem. With limited ferry schedules and fewer activities, it suits travellers planning longer stays rather than fast-paced island hopping.

  • How to reach: Book government-operated ferries from Port Blair to reach Little Andaman in 6 to 8 hours.
  • Permits: Indians can visit common tourist zones but need a local wildlife permit to visit certain waterfalls. Foreign nationals must get a Restricted Area Permit (RAP).
  • Best season: November to May

Barren Island: Barren Island in the Andaman is India’s only active volcano. While landing is restricted, boat cruises allow you to observe the volcanic cone rising dramatically from the ocean. Hardened lava flows and steam vents are visible from a distance.

  • How to reach: Charter a boat from Port Blair to reach Barren Island in 5 hours or avail the seaplane service.
  • Permits: Both Indian and foreign nationals require a special permit from the Forest Department
  • Best season: November to February

Ross Island and Smith Island: A 50-metre-long natural sandbar connecting Ross and Smith Islands is one of the Andamans’ most photographed spots. Walking across this natural bridge during low tide, with the sea on both sides, feels unreal.

  • How to reach: Board a ferry from Port Blair to Diglipur and then take a 30-minute boat ride to reach Ross and Smith Islands.
  • Permits: All travellers must obtain a permit from the Forest Office in Diglipur. The cost of the permit is INR 50 for Indians. 500 for foreign nationals.
  • Best season: November to March

Chidiya Tapu: Known for its calm atmosphere, Chidiya Tapu offers one of the most peaceful sunset experiences in the Andaman. You can simply sit, listen to the waves, and watch the sky change colours without interruption from commercial activity.

  • How to reach: Hire a cab from Port Blair to reach Chidiya Tapu in 45 to 60 minutes.
  • Permits: Indians do not need any permit, but foreign travellers must hold a RAP.
  • Best season: October to May

Is a package or an independent trip better for Andaman?

Social media threads are full of travellers debating whether Andaman trip packages are worth it or if planning independently is cheaper. Here is an honest comparison.

  • Ferry bookings: Thrillophilia has a direct relationship with popular ferry operators like Makruzz and Green Ocean. So we can pre-book seats, especially during peak seasons when tickets sell out quickly. If you are planning independently, you must monitor availability and book at least 2–3 weeks in advance.
  • Hotel quality: Accommodations in packages are pre-vetted and reviewed. Independent travellers must compare multiple options and decide for themselves, which is time-consuming and may lead to unpleasant experiences.
  • Cost transparency: Independent trips may seem potentially cheaper. However, expenses can vary because of dynamic pricing, last-minute bookings, or unexpected changes. Meanwhile, packages offer fixed pricing, making budgeting easier.
  • On-ground support: Weather disruptions, ferry cancellations, or sudden itinerary changes are common in island destinations. With a package, you have a support team to handle these issues. Travelling independently means managing everything yourself, which can be challenging in an unfamiliar location.
  • Flexibility: Independent travel is better if you need complete control over your schedule. Though packages allow customising itineraries, they must be done within a structured plan.

Honest conclusion: For first-time Andaman visitors, a package with customisation options gives the best experience. Repeat visitors who understand ferry systems and local travel may find independent planning suitable.
