About Goju-no-to Pagoda
The architectural relic has layered wooden grooves which ascend to the sky and instil a spiritual connection in everyone’s heart. Its base has a range of four tableaux which showcase scenes from the stories of Lord Buddha. At the north angle, you will see Buddha passing into nirvana and his followers mourning the loss.
A special attraction of the Goju-no-to Pagoda is the uppermost roof. It was earlier believed that lighting is a celestial monster. That’s why implements and swords with sharp edges were added for safety. Today it has scythes which are known to protect the building from lighting. During the Kamakura period, the Goju-no-to Pagoda was struck by the lighting but it was completely safe.

- By Train: Goju-no-to Pagoda in Hiroshima is approximately 4 to 5 hours away from Tokyo. You can board the JR Tokaido-Sanyo Shinkansen Line to reach the location. Additionally, you can board the JR Sanyo Line from Hiroshima to Miyajima-guchi Station and reach the destination in 25 to 30 minutes.
- By Bus: Take the bus from JR Tsuruoka Station and deboard at Zuishinmon bus stop. It will take approximately 40 minutes.
- By Ferry: Travel from Miyajima-guchi Station to Miyajima on a ferry and reach the Goju-no-to Pagoda in 10 minutes.
