Goju-no-to Pagoda

The architectural relic has layered wooden grooves which ascend to the sky and instil a spiritual connection in everyone’s heart. Its base has a range of four tableaux which showcase scenes from the stories of Lord Buddha. At the north angle, you will see Buddha passing into nirvana and his followers mourning the loss.

A special attraction of the Goju-no-to Pagoda is the uppermost roof. It was earlier believed that lighting is a celestial monster. That’s why implements and swords with sharp edges were added for safety. Today it has scythes which are known to protect the building from lighting. During the Kamakura period, the Goju-no-to Pagoda was struck by the lighting but it was completely safe.
