Iceland Tour Packages

Reviewed by: Thrillophilia Iceland Operations Team | Updated: June 2026

Iceland tour packages start from INR 1,63,000 for 6-day trips, while longer 10-day itineraries can cost more than INR 4,00,000 per person. Few destinations offer the diversity of experiences found in Iceland. From witnessing the Northern Lights across winter skies to exploring vast glaciers that cover nearly 11% of the country, there is something extraordinary at every turn. Visitors can watch geysers erupt, relax in geothermal lagoons, witness volcanic landscapes, and experience the Midnight Sun, when daylight lasts nearly 24 hours during summer.

For travellers planning Iceland tour packages from India, the destination offers something remarkable in every season. Winter offers snowy landscapes and aurora sightings, while summer opens access to scenic road trips, hiking trails, waterfalls, and extended daylight hours.

A special highlight for 2026 is the total solar eclipse on 12 August, which will be visible from parts of Iceland, including the spectacular Snaefellsnes Peninsula. As the next total solar eclipse visible from Iceland will not occur until 2196, 2026 presents a rare opportunity for travellers and astronomy enthusiasts to witness this once-in-a-lifetime event alongside Iceland’s natural wonders.

With Thrillophilia, travellers can choose from a range of Iceland tour packages designed to help them experience the country's highlights with ease. From accommodation and transfers to guided sightseeing and unique local experiences, every itinerary is crafted for a hassle-free journey. Backed by a 4.7-star rating, Thrillophilia provides end-to-end travel assistance and dedicated support from planning to return.

What's New in Iceland (2026)

Total Solar Eclipse (12 August 2026)

One of the biggest events in Iceland in 2026 is the total solar eclipse on 12 August, which will be visible from parts of the country, including the Snaefellsnes Peninsula. As this is a rare event, travel demand for August 2026 is expected to be much higher than usual. It is recommended to book flights, accommodation, and Schengen visa appointments well in advance.

Sky Lagoon Expansion

Sky Lagoon, located just 7 km from Reykjavík, has upgraded its facilities and wellness offerings, including the popular Skjól seven-step ritual. It has become a popular alternative to the Blue Lagoon.

Volcanic Activity on the Reykjanes Peninsula

Volcanic activity has continued on the Reykjanes Peninsula since late 2023. While popular attractions, including the Blue Lagoon, are open to visitors, travellers should check official local updates before and during their trip for the latest safety information.

Schengen Visa Fee Update

Indian travellers visiting Iceland require a Schengen visa. The standard visa fee is currently EUR 80, which is approximately INR 7,200 based on June 2026 exchange rates. Visa fees may change, so it is advisable to verify the latest charges before applying.

Note: All prices are based on exchange rates current as of June 2026. INR equivalents shift with the rupee. Verify before booking.

How to Reach Iceland from India

There are no direct flights from India to Iceland, so you'll need to make at least one stop along the way. Most travellers fly through cities like Dubai, Doha, Istanbul, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, or Helsinki before continuing to Reykjavik. Depending on your route and layover time, the journey usually takes between 14 and 18 hours.

Flights from India are available from major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Chennai. And airlines such as Emirates, Qatar Airways, Turkish Airlines, Lufthansa, KLM, Swiss, Finnair, and Air India offer convenient connections to Iceland. Return airfares may range from INR 55,000 to INR 1,00,000 per person, although prices can be higher during peak travel months. Routes through the Middle East are often more affordable than those through Europe.

All international flights arrive at Keflavik International Airport, which is located about 50 kilometres from Reykjavik. The easiest way to reach the city is by Flybus, a shuttle service that operates according to flight arrival times and takes around 45 minutes to reach central Reykjavik. Taxis are also available but are considerably more expensive. If you book an Iceland package with Thrillophilia, airport transfers are typically included, so you won't need to arrange transportation separately.

Iceland Visa for Indian Travellers

Indian passport holders need a Schengen Tourist Visa to visit Iceland. Since Iceland is part of the Schengen Area, the same visa can also be used to travel to other Schengen countries during your trip if your itinerary includes several destinations.

It is a good idea to begin the visa process at least 6 to 8 weeks before departure, especially if you plan to travel during the summer when appointment slots can fill up quickly. Visa applications are usually submitted through the authorised visa application centre handling Iceland visa services in India at the time of application.

To apply, you will need a valid passport, recent photographs, flight and hotel bookings, a travel itinerary, bank statements, travel insurance, and documents showing your employment or business status. A short cover letter explaining your travel plans is also commonly required.

Travel insurance is mandatory and must cover medical emergencies during your stay in the Schengen Area. The minimum required coverage is EUR 30,000.

The standard Schengen visa fee is EUR 80, which is approximately INR 7,200 based on current exchange rates. Processing usually takes 15 to 30 working days, although timelines can vary depending on the season and application volume.

Once approved, the visa is generally issued for the duration of your trip and may be granted as a single-entry or multiple-entry visa, depending on your travel plans and supporting documents. Planning ahead and keeping your documents ready can make the process smooth and stress-free.

Places to Visit in Iceland

Iceland's tourist attractions are spread across the country, which is why most travellers spend at least 7 days exploring it. A standard Iceland itinerary usually includes Reykjavik, the Golden Circle, the Blue Lagoon, and the South Coast, while longer trips often add the Snaefellsnes Peninsula, Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon, and North Iceland.

1. Reykjavik

Reykjavik is the starting point for most Iceland trips and serves as the country's cultural and transportation hub. Although it is Iceland's capital, the city feels compact and can easily be explored on foot. Popular attractions include Hallgrimskirkja Church, one of Iceland's most recognisable landmarks, the waterfront Harpa Concert Hall, and the colourful streets around the Old Harbour district. Most visitors spend 1 to 2 days here before continuing their journey.

  • Distance from Keflavik Airport: 50 km
  • Flybus transfer: Around 45 minutes
  • Hallgrimskirkja Tower entry: Approx. INR 900
  • National Museum of Iceland: Approx. INR 1,800
  • Reykjavik Art Museum: Approx. INR 1,500
  • Laugardalslaug geothermal pool: Approx. INR 500–800
  • Recommended time: 1–2 days

2. Golden Circle

The Golden Circle is Iceland's most popular sightseeing route and can easily be completed as a day trip from Reykjavik. Covering approximately 240 km, it includes three of Iceland's most famous attractions.

Thingvellir National Park is where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates meet, allowing visitors to walk between two continents. The park is also home to Iceland's first parliament, established in 930 AD. The Geysir Geothermal Area is known for the Strokkur geyser, which erupts every 5 to 10 minutes and sends hot water up to 30 metres into the air. The final stop is Gullfoss Waterfall, one of Iceland's most powerful waterfalls, famous for its dramatic two-tier drop into a deep canyon.

  • Entry fee: Free for all three attractions
  • Guided tour from Reykjavik: Approx. INR 6,000–9,000
  • Self-drive car rental: Approx. INR 6,000–12,000 per day
  • Recommended time: Full day

3. Blue Lagoon

The Blue Lagoon is Iceland's most famous geothermal spa and one of the country's most visited attractions. Surrounded by black lava fields, the warm mineral-rich water stays between 37°C and 39°C throughout the year.

Many travellers visit immediately after landing in Iceland or before their departure flight because of its convenient location between Keflavik Airport and Reykjavik.

Visitor Information

  • Distance from Keflavik Airport: 20 minutes
  • Distance from Reykjavik: 50 minutes
  • Comfort Package: Approx. INR 5,000–8,500
  • Premium Package: Approx. INR 10,000–14,000
  • Retreat Experience: INR 18,000+
  • Advance booking: Essential
  • Recommended time: Half day

4. South Coast

The South Coast is one of Iceland's most scenic regions and is known for its waterfalls, glaciers, black sand beaches, and scenic landscapes.

Seljalandsfoss is famous because visitors can walk behind the waterfall. Nearby Skogafoss is equally impressive and can be viewed from both the base and an elevated viewpoint reached by climbing stairs.

Visitor Information

  • Distance from Reykjavik: 120–200 km, depending on stops
  • Seljalandsfoss parking: Approx. INR 600–900
  • Entry fee: Free at major attractions
  • Recommended time: 1 full day or overnight trip

5. Snaefellsnes Peninsula

Known as "Iceland in Miniature", the Snaefellsnes Peninsula showcases glaciers, lava fields, coastal cliffs, mountains, and charming fishing villages within a relatively small area.

The region is dominated by Snaefellsjokull Glacier, a glacier-covered volcano that inspired Jules Verne's Journey to the Centre of the Earth.

In August 2026, the peninsula will be one of the best locations in Iceland to witness the rare total solar eclipse.

Visitor Information

  • Distance from Reykjavik: Approximately 190 km
  • National Park entry: Free
  • Guided glacier tours: Approx. INR 8,000–14,000
  • Recommended time: 1–2 days

6. Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon and Diamond Beach

Jokulsarlon is one of Iceland's most spectacular natural attractions. Here, massive icebergs break away from Vatnajokull Glacier and float through a glacial lagoon before drifting out to sea.

Just across the road is Diamond Beach, where chunks of ice wash onto black volcanic sand, creating one of Iceland's most photographed landscapes.

Visitor Information

  • Distance from Reykjavik: Approximately 380 km
  • Entry fee: Free
  • Boat tours: Approx. INR 4,000–7,000
  • Recommended time: Half day
  • Best visited as part of a 2-day South Coast itinerary

7. Akureyri and North Iceland

Located in northern Iceland, Akureyri is the country's second-largest urban area and serves as a gateway to several lesser-visited attractions.

From here, travellers can visit the Myvatn geothermal region, the powerful Dettifoss Waterfall, and Husavik, widely regarded as Iceland's whale-watching capital.

The region also offers the Myvatn Nature Baths, a quieter alternative to the Blue Lagoon.

Visitor Information

  • Distance from Reykjavik: 390 km by road
  • Domestic flight from Reykjavik: Around 45 minutes

Midnight Sun in Iceland

One of Iceland's most unique summer experiences is the Midnight Sun. Between late May and late July, daylight lasts almost 24 hours, and the sun barely sets.

  • Days are extremely long, especially in June.
  • You can continue sightseeing well into the evening.
  • Many travellers find the bright nights unusual at first.
  • A sleep mask can be useful, even though most hotels provide blackout curtains.

Northern Lights in Iceland: A Practical Guide for Indian Travellers

For many travellers, the Northern Lights are the biggest reason to visit Iceland. These colourful lights appear when solar particles interact with the Earth's atmosphere, creating displays of green, purple, and pink across the night sky. While the experience can be spectacular, it's important to remember that the Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon, the sighting of which can never be guaranteed.

The viewing season generally starts from mid-September to mid-March, with the best chances between December and February, when nights are longest and darkest. If seeing the aurora is a priority, try to spend at least 4 to 5 nights in Iceland, as weather conditions can change quickly.

Some of the best places to see the Northern Lights include:

  • Thingvellir National Park
  • Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon
  • Snaefellsnes Peninsula
  • Akureyri and North Iceland
  • Grotta Lighthouse near Reykjavik

Many first-time visitors prefer joining a guided Northern Lights tour. Guides monitor weather forecasts and cloud cover throughout the day and take travellers to areas with the best viewing conditions. These tours usually cost INR 4,000 to INR 9,000 per person, and some operators offer a complimentary second tour if conditions are poor on the first night.

The Ring Road: Iceland's Ultimate Road Trip

The Ring Road, also known as Route 1, is a highway that runs around Iceland, covering approximately 1,332 kilometres. It is the country's most famous driving route and connects many of Iceland's top attractions, making it a popular choice for travellers who want to explore beyond Reykjavik.

Along the journey, you'll pass waterfalls, glaciers, volcanic landscapes, black sand beaches, and charming coastal towns. Some of the major highlights include:

  • South Iceland: Seljalandsfoss, Skogafoss, Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach, and Vik
  • East Iceland: Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon, Diamond Beach, and Skaftafell
  • North Iceland: Akureyri, Lake Myvatn, Dettifoss Waterfall, and Husavik
  • West Iceland: Snaefellsnes Peninsula and Hraunfossar Waterfalls

While the entire Ring Road can be completed in about 7 days, most travellers prefer 10 to 14 days for a more relaxed experience. Those visiting Iceland for the first time often focus on Reykjavik, the Golden Circle, the South Coast, and Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon instead of attempting the full circuit.

If you plan to drive, keep the following in mind:

  • A 4WD vehicle is recommended, especially between October and May
  • Rental costs typically range from INR 8,000 to INR 15,000 per day
  • The weather can change quickly, even during summer
  • Road conditions should be checked before starting each day's drive

The Ring Road is more than just a route between destinations. It's one of the best ways to experience Iceland's constantly changing scenery, where every few kilometres reveals a new waterfall, glacier, mountain, or coastal view.

Food in Iceland: A Guide for Indian and Vegetarian Travellers

Icelandic food mainly includes lamb, fish, dairy products, rye bread, and skyr, while vegetarian options are easier to find in Reykjavik than in rural areas.

What to Expect

  • Traditional Icelandic dishes commonly feature lamb, Arctic char, cod, dairy products, and rye bread.
  • Skyr is a popular high-protein dairy item similar to thick strained yoghurt.
  • A full meal at a mid-range restaurant in Reykjavik costs INR 2,500–5,000.
  • Coffee usually costs INR 400–700.

Budget-Friendly Food Options

  • Bonus (yellow smiley logo) and Kronan are Iceland's most popular budget supermarkets.
  • Ready-to-eat meals, bread, cheese, skyr, fruits, and snacks are widely available.
  • A supermarket lunch for two generally costs around INR 2,000–3,500.

Vegetarian and Vegan Restaurants in Reykjavik

  • Glo: Popular vegetarian-friendly restaurant serving salads, bowls, and soups.
  • Loving Hut: Fully vegan restaurant offering affordable Asian-inspired dishes.
  • Seabaron (Saegreifinn): Well-known harbour-side restaurant where some soups can be prepared without meat.
  • Indian restaurants are available in Reykjavik, but options may change, so check current listings before travelling.

What to Pack for Ring Road Travel

  • Instant oats for quick breakfasts.
  • Nuts, dry fruits, and energy bars for long driving days.
  • Ready-to-eat Indian meals (declare them at customs upon arrival).
  • Milk or plant-based alternatives purchased from Reykjavik supermarkets before leaving the city.

Things to Know

  • Vegetarian choices become more limited outside Reykjavik, especially at petrol stations and smaller guesthouses.

  • Some restaurants and souvenir shops sell whale meat as a tourist specialty. If unsure about ingredients, ask before ordering.

Iceland Safety Tips for Indian Travellers

Iceland is one of the safest countries in the world for tourists. Most travel risks are related to natural conditions rather than crime, so following local safety guidelines is important.

Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach: Sneaker waves at Reynisfjara Beach near Vik can arrive suddenly, even when the sea appears calm. So, it is advised to stay well away from the waterline and never turn your back on the ocean.

Check the Weather Daily: Iceland's weather can change quickly throughout the day. Strong winds and low temperatures are common, even during summer, so check local weather forecasts regularly before heading out for outdoor activities.

Follow F-Road Driving Rules: Mountain F-roads are generally open only during summer and require a 4WD vehicle for travelling. Standard rental cars are not permitted on these roads.

Stay on Designated Roads: When searching for the Northern Lights or exploring remote areas, avoid driving off marked roads. Off-road driving is illegal and can damage Iceland's fragile natural landscape.

Monitor Volcanic Activity Updates: Parts of the Reykjanes Peninsula experience periodic volcanic activity. Check official updates from Iceland Civil Protection before and during your trip.

Save Emergency Information: The emergency number in Iceland is 112. Download the 112 Iceland App before your trip, as it allows emergency services to locate you quickly if assistance is needed.

Iceland's most famous geothermal spa is 20 minutes from Keflavik Airport and 50 minutes from Reykjavik. Water temperature 37 to 39 degrees C year-round. Entry starts from approximately INR 5,000 (Comfort tier). Advance booking is mandatory. The Blue Lagoon does not accept walk-ins and sells out weeks to months ahead in peak season. Is Iceland good for a honeymoon?

13. Is Iceland good for a honeymoon?

Iceland is one of the strongest honeymoon destinations for Indian couples looking for something different from standard Bali or Europe options. The combination of geothermal hot spring relaxation, aurora viewing at night, and dramatic landscape drives during the day is difficult to replicate elsewhere. Honeymoon packages from Thrillophilia start from INR 2,40,000 and include private transport, boutique accommodation, Blue Lagoon, and a Northern Lights viewing evening.

Is Iceland vegetarian-friendly?

Reykjavik has dedicated vegetarian restaurants, including Glo (primarily vegetarian, two locations) and Loving Hut (fully vegan). Outside Reykjavik, options are very limited. Rural guesthouses and petrol stations typically offer bread, cheese, and skyr only. Carry dry fruits, nuts, and instant meals for Ring Road or rural travel days. Inform Thrillophilia of dietary requirements at booking.

Is Iceland safe for travellers?

Yes. Iceland consistently ranks among the world's safest countries for tourists. Crime is very low. The risks are almost entirely nature-related: sneaker waves at Reynisfjara (stand 30 metres from the waterline), unpredictable weather (four seasons in one day), slippery terrain near waterfalls, and F-road driving requirements in the highlands. Download the 112 Iceland emergency app before travelling.

Can Indians see the Midnight Sun in Iceland?

Yes. The sun does not set in Iceland from approximately 20 May to 22 July. At midnight in June, the sky is as bright as late afternoon. Pack a sleep mask. Blackout curtains are standard in Icelandic accommodation, but a sleep mask is backup insurance. The practical upside is significantly more sightseeing hours per day than in any other season.

Can I drive in Iceland with an Indian driving licence?

Yes, if your Indian driving licence is in English. Alternatively, carry an International Driving Permit (IDP) from an Automobile Association in India before departure. A 4WD is required for F-roads. In winter, confirm your rental car is equipped for snow and ice.

How much does an Iceland trip cost from India?

A 7-day Iceland land package costs approximately INR 1,90,000 to INR 2,40,000 per person. Add INR 55,000 to INR 1,00,000 for return flights. Total trip cost per person, therefore, runs from approximately INR 2,45,000 to INR 3,60,000 for a standard 7-day itinerary. Premium packages go higher.

Do I need a car to explore Iceland?

No, but it significantly expands what you can see. The Golden Circle, South Coast, and Reykjavik are all accessible via guided day tours without a car. The Ring Road and most of North Iceland require self-drive or private transport. Thrillophilia packages include all ground transport, so you do not need to rent a car separately.

How to reach Iceland from India?

3. How to reach Iceland from India?

There are no direct flights from India to Iceland. All routes require 1 to 2 connections. Fastest option: via a Middle Eastern hub (Emirates via Dubai, Qatar Airways via Doha, Turkish Airlines via Istanbul) with total journey time of 14 to 16 hours. Finnair via Helsinki is the geographically closest European connection to Reykjavik. Return fares are approximately INR 55,000 to INR 1,00,000. Arrival airport is Keflavik International (KEF), 50 km from Reykjavik. Flybus to the city costs approximately INR 1,800 to INR 2,200 one way.

What is the Iceland visa fee for Indian passport holders?

The standard Schengen visa fee is EUR 80, approximately INR 7,200 at June 2026 exchange rates. Children under 6 are exempt. Verify the current INR equivalent at the VFS Global India website before applying, as rates shift. Apply at least 6 to 8 weeks before travel. Processing typically takes 15 to 30 working days.

Can I see black sand beaches in Iceland?

Yes, Iceland is famous for black sand beaches, especially around Vik on the South Coast, where volcanic landscapes create dramatic scenery.

Thrillophilia Tip: Stay alert near the shoreline because waves can be unexpectedly strong.

What currency does Iceland use?

Iceland uses the Icelandic Krona (ISK). Cards are accepted almost universally, including at cafes, petrol stations, car parks, museums, buses, and small farm shops. Cash is rarely needed. Carry an international debit or credit card with contactless payment enabled. Inform your bank before travelling to avoid transaction blocks.
