Itinerary

  • Day 1 -

    Arrive in Guwahati

Upon arrival in Guwahati, catch your train to Mukonselek around 05:30 PM.

(In case your flight arrives at Guwahati airport early in the morning, you could do a day tour of Guwahati which includes a visit to the Kamakhya Temple, Umananda Island and Kalakshetra or you could choose to spend the day having a few drinks beside the Brahmaputra at River side lodge)

  • Day 2 -

    To Along

Your car will be waiting at the station to drive you to the Galo town of Aalo or Along.

It is a long and tiring drive but it is guaranteed that you are only getting closer to some of the most beautiful regions in the country.

On reaching, check into the beautiful homestay perched between orange and mousambi orchards.

Walk around the gardens and paddy fields or choose to go explore the local market.

In the evening, get to know some of the traditional Galo brew along with some traditional food.

    Overnight stay in Revi's homestay.

  • Day 3 -

    To Mechuka

Wake up early in the morning and post breakfast, proceed to the most beautiful destination in the trip, Mechuka.

The journey is long and the roads are bad. As you drive up a few thousand feet, you will observe how both the air and landscape change dramatically with height.

After a good eight hours of travel, you will reach this magical valley in the West Siang district.

Mechuka or Menchukha, as is traditionally called, translates to medicinal water from snow as the locals believed that the water from the Menchukha stream which passes through the valley could cure any illness in the world due to its medicinal properties.

The beautiful town of Mechuka is home to primarily the Memba tribe, a Tibeto-mongloid ethnic group which follows Buddhism.

Other inhabitants, in smaller numbers, would include the Ramo, Bokar Libo and Tagin tribes(some of which are sub tribes of the Adi community).

On reaching, walk around the small town taking in the grandeur of the snow-capped mountains around you.

You will be staying in a Memba homestay where you may rest if you choose to leave the walking to the next day.

Sit by the fire with your hosts in the evening before retiring to your room.

  • Day 4 -

    Explore Mechuka

After breakfast, set out to explore the place in detail.

Visit the Yorlung Camp at a height of 7934 feet and meet those protecting the boundaries of the country.

The gate of the camp is the last point where civilians are allowed without any special permission.

Certain rocks and sticks have been marked from where one can talk on a mobile phone as even moving an inch results in no network on the devices.

Thereafter, drive to the Gurudwara to know more about the significance of the Gurudwara and Sikhism in Mechuka.

The Gurudwara is beautifully located with a hanging bridge just behind it. Walk around and explore the area as Langar is prepared.

After lunch, walk around and see the places nearby as you hear the stories associated with the spots you will visit.

Go back to the homestay and retire there for the night.

You could also choose to sleep in the Gurudwara for the night, where you can hear the bubbling stream flowing just behind the walls.

    Overnight stay at Memba Homestay/Gurudwara.

  • Day 5 -

    Visit the Buddhist monastery

Head back down towards the town for breakfast before you hike up to the top of a hill to visit a 400 year old Buddhist monastery where you can see many carvings, structures and other ancient artifacts which though passed down so many hands and generations are still very well maintained.

The view from the Gompa is truly exquisite and if you are lucky, you may even see one of the IAF planes making a U-turn just around the Gompa before landing on what the Air Force calls the ‘Advance Landing Ground’, which is the name of the airstrip in Mechuka.

After you walk back down to your homestay, bond with your hosts over some ‘Chang’ ?while you learn how to make some of their traditional food.

    Overnight stay at Memba homestay.

  • Day 6 -

On your last day here, you will be exploring the Memba culture a bit more as you visit one of the villages in the area.

The people in the villages still hold ancient artifacts and items handed down generations and the prayer rooms are a visual treat as you try some tea made in the local style with locally produced butter.

After visiting the village, you may choose to walk up one of the hills to get a good view of the valley or even try your hand at the much coveted trout fishing which Mechuka is blessed with.

Enjoy yourself as you sit by the river and let the picnic unfold with the spirit of the valley.

Watch sunset and cherish your last day in this mesmerising valley. Return to your homestay and rest well before the long drive back.

    Overnight at Memba Homestay

  • Day 7 -

    To Along

Early morning, make your way back towards Aalo where you will spend the night at the same homestay you had stayed in earlier.

If you wish, you may visit a Galo village nearby to see traditional houses as well as witness as a traditional Galo dance in full swing.

You may indulge in more of the local spirit and food if you wish. This day is at leisure.

    Overnight at Reyi Homestay.

  • Day 8 -

    To Pasighat

Leave early morning from Aalo to Pasighat.

Check into your camp and head out to go see the hanging bridges that have been made around this region and have been in use for centuries.

In the evening, if time permits visit Bodak for a spectacular view of the river passing through the valley.

Sip on a cup of tea as you hear the river burble by.

  • Day 9 -

    To Dambuk

Get ready to leave by 10:00 AM to travel on one of the most unique roads in India, the road leading to Dambuk village.

Inaccessible in summers due to the high levels of the river, the streams dry up in winter and the river bed becomes the road.

After the 45 minute off road drive check into your resort facing the mighty Dibang and breathe.

The village is your playground to ride ATVs, cycles or even feeding salt to the Mithun( the state animal of Arunachal Pradesh)

    Stay overnight at Bomjir.

  • Day 10 -

Enjoy swimming and rafting on the mighty Dibang river.

The rapids aren't that strong and amateurs and professionals alike will enjoy the view on offer.

Stop at islands along the way and even snack if you feel like.

    Stay overnight at Bomjir.

  • Day 11 -

This day can be spent relaxing in the resort before you head out for your train to Guwahati from Murkongselek at 8:00 PM.

Make your way to the station at around 3:00 PM and stop at Pasighat to grab a quick bite.

    Take an overnight train journey.

  • Day 12 -

    End of the tour

Reach Guwahati by morning and catch an Uber/Ola to the airport to make it in time for your flight.
